Global Reality Check – Power, Pride and Prejudice

November 19, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Humanity plight is largely attributed to shadow governance wielding power over politics, economics, religion, and social justice.

The military prowess and nuclear status is predominant threatening force subjugating nations to prioritize defense spending against citizens’ needs and nation building.

Any pre-emptive wars and preparation to strike targeted adversaries would be self-destructive with serious repercussions for eager participants in the world carnage.

Mideast naval fleet in the territory along with troop deployment from Iraq diverted to other closer borders viz. Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE boosting pre-existing military presence is kamikaze operation doomed for failure.

The false propaganda to wage war at irreversible loss of precious lives and scarce economic resources after major debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan is yet another wake up call for citizens around the world to demand the end of illegal warfare and foreign occupation with troop return from the global base.

Current posturing in the Middle East and Asia Pacific to disrupt emerging freedom and economic growth plunging the region into chaos and catastrophe is detrimental to the source underestimating dire consequences beyond salvation.

Indian sub-continent – Pakistan in particular ever remaining the terror haven is convenient for defense industry considering the arms race to the nuclear neighbors incited against each other as nuclear rivals for strategic control.

Amazingly the worlds’ super power boasting sophisticated artillery and military together with NATO fighting the presumed war on terror previously against self-founded Al Qaeda and,

Presently Haqqani network – US State department admittedly having held meeting with them but somehow unable to terminate terrorism from the group consisting barely hundred renegades confirms the military industrial complex real mission – profitability through eternal violence claiming innocent lives all around.

Meanwhile nuclear armament in India at the White House behest prompting the subservient government in New Delhi sworn allegiance to global conglomerate in rejecting citizens’ dissent on nuclear proliferation under nuclear power pretext compounds volatility to the fragile regional relations.

Again utilizing certain disloyal and unscrupulous local elements in society,

The nexus influence on all matter especially economics, politics, nuclear and media is prominent undermining sovereignty,

To capitalize on globalization premised on collective productivity and selective income distribution – depriving the vast majority decent living standard reflecting the global power designated ‘third world’ category.

Furthermore, from Asia Pacific, Down under  – Australia is the chief exporter of fossil fuel viz. coal to China.

With Labor leadership recent declaration to lift ban on uranium shipment to India amid compliance to U.S led military aggression in every frontier details the anti-environment and anti-peace adaptation to appease the apex authority.

Africa and Latin America marred with civil wars, drug wars and political instability due to U.S and foreign intervention via coup d’état as well as arms supply suppress the respective continents’ ability to overcome challenges exacerbated in corporate driven globalization for exclusive interests.

Island nations regardless of size and economic output plea to the powerful players on global warming – averting cataclysmic 2 degree Centigrade temperature rise by Kyoto Treaty ratification and COP16 implementation is unheeded with resistance from energy industry backed political leaderships representing key polluting states.

Europe grappling with contagion factor on solvency is determined to impose drastic cuts in vital programs – education, health, retirement and housing…hurting the youth, working families and senior citizens – the vulnerable in the society.

Contrarily no tax reform in taxing the super rich or,

Closing financial institutions that allow legal deposits of illegal funds from tax evasions, national treasury embezzlement such as kickbacks on government contracts, corruption deals, arms sales, extortion, human trafficking and narcotic trade…

Comprising varied remittances draining the originating country’s financial capacity with no accountability and transparency to uphold justice in a functional democracy –

None are above the law.

The investigation formality stops at expendable members while real beneficiaries under privileged status granted impunity from treason and significant crimes compromising national image, wealth  and credibility.

United States – Treading on Europe’s path experiencing rising national debt at $14.6 trillion with,

No agreement on balanced budget, jobs bill, infra structure improvement to spur growth and,

Free trade instead of fair trade practice declined by the people in the partner nations viz. South Korea, Colombia and Panama.

Clean Energy Obstructionism – Congressional examination of Solyndra insolvency involving the White House with taxpayer dollar investment $528 million in solar energy company is legitimate for fact finding purpose and future guidelines.

Solyndra with inherent deficiencies from inception receiving federal funding to a tune of half billion dollars creates a perception – eluding to discredit renewable energy options counteracted by none other than big oil companies generously financing both political party candidates throughout congressional and Presidential race.

Likewise the exercise conducted on taxpayer dollars squandered in illegal invasion and occupation of foreign land specifically Iraq benefitting Halliburton and then subsidiary KBR Inc.( Kellog, Brown and Root) would eliminate partisan politics stigma in truth exploration and justification on taxpayer fund investments.

On the warfront – Troop withdrawal from Iraq would be genuine upon troops returning back to United States and not deployed on Iraq’s periphery or around Persian Gulf prevalent in the growing tension against Iran.

U.S and Allies double standards: Arab Spring effect in the Middle East is addressed differently and entirely dependent on political ties with U.S. and favored ally – Israel.

Syrian violent crackdown is reprehensible and assault on unarmed civilians with firearms seemingly a pattern among autocratic regimes ignoring the equally devastating conclusion witnessed particularly in Egypt and Libya.

The situation in Syria could be prevented from becoming Libya in terms of civil war had there not been arms delivery to dictatorial governments from democratic nations.

Military hardware disarmament through diplomatic channel viz. Arab League and GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) rigorous actions against leadership Bashar al-Assad and loyalists unlike U.S. and NATO dismantling in Libya would save many lives and contain violence.

There has been many hearings on Syria at the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee in Washington D.C.

However, same response and committee sessions are missing for other nations in the Middle East beginning with Palestinian statehood at the UN like Israeli state establishment in 1947.

Saudi army attacks against Bahrain citizens after former Defense Secretary Robert Gates visit to the Gulf State,

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh approved merciless shooting of citizens in the non-violent dissent.

Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces pledged to hold elections early November 2011 for civilian rule.

Instead Egyptian authorities brutality against dissenters in Tahrir Square and clashes with Coptic Christians followed by the latest row with Islamists is the trend repeating Mubarak era and could perhaps exit the same way.

Kuwait citizens have joined the Arab revolution with the discord in Kuwaiti Parliament and the stakes are much higher given,

The Al Sabah dynasty strong military alliance with United States represented by 25,000 U.S troops and more relocated from Iraq in the so-called troop withdrawal.

Saudi Arabia and Jordan as the western partners escape media attention and political leaderships scrutiny on the relevant political sea change in order.

Nuclear wise reiterating the earlier facts – The western powers vying to supply uranium to India and concurrent condemnation of Iran’s nuclear program is contradictory generating nuclear competitiveness and non-proliferation default in the expansive nuclear power aspiration.

Attempts or the lack thereof to resolve manufactured crises from economy to environment is losing authenticity with people frustration demonstrated in peaceful protests like Occupy all over.’

The bipartisan Super Committee proposals on deficit control are more directed at Medicare, Medicaid and Social security – the American family lifeline.

Divestments from Pentagon unaudited expenditure and extravagant military ambitions drowning the U.S. and global economies in debts could aid economic stimulus through job creation and investments to broaden prospects in education, research, health and clean energy pursuits for healthy environment.

Occupy protesters were evacuated from zuccoti park during the week on community hazard basis and elsewhere the approach was aimed at crowd dispersal to discourage constitutional right for peaceful assembly.

Nonetheless, the Occupy movement is resilient in exhibiting strength from coast to coast devoid of media coverage.

The 99% bearing the brunt of 1% blunders in economic, political, social and environmental policies at home and globally is one voice unified in bringing about the long overdue change –

Republic governed democratic system principled in fairness and equality for all.

Greed motivated global dominance showing no respect for life anywhere is the root cause of humanity suffering.

Mighty, powerful and the privileged are exempt from tax and judicial probe on general to monumental crimes that is otherwise enforced upon ordinary citizens with inhumane and extraordinary conditions.

Judicial inquiry and investigative process effectively transformed into political gimmicks with guilty either set free or shielded from public exposure.

Selective corporate media and communication outlets in cohort with politics obsessed with truth subversion, perversion, and profanity in certain segments deteriorating in moral and ethical standards – the fundamentals of civilized society.

Not to mention the deviation from substance and solutions for global problems ascribed to flawed strategies and presumptuous decisions ignoring grievous outcome.

Peace and diplomacy discarded for war and belligerence to promote misguided agenda at life and planet peril.

The status quo dictated by few is unsustainable and arguably engaged in losing battle against worldwide people power.

Mass consciousness dedicated to peace and non-violence could gain momentum expediting inevitable change and turning hope into reality for seven billion –

Seeking political freedom, economic progress, social equality and environment protection.

Humility is the virtuous trail leading to profound values that enrich human character for inner peace and happiness.

Inaction and tolerance to injustice make the powerful become powerless reversing the course in human development.

Individuals possess the power to produce positive results in life.

Will power without compromising honesty and integrity to succeed against all odds would enable reaching the mountain peak.

The vibrant youth energy in every society is resourceful and could be optimally used in self and national empowerment committed to saving habitat and humanity.

On that optimistic note – Wishing Good Luck and Best Wishes to Global movement in solidarity for peace, liberty and prosperity for all.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Egypt Political Development

February 14, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Egypt interim government under Army rule has taken significant actions with Parliament dissolution and Constitution suspension in accordance with civilian pro-democracy requests.

Further, the caretaker military authority has vowed to organize a committee for constitutional reform with Egyptian electorate participation through referendum and subsequently prepare the nation for a free and fair democratic election.

The military command pledge to honor peace treaty with Israel and other nations for international security is praiseworthy.

These measures and intentions to lead the nation on a democratic path are extremely important and necessary to expedite orderly political transition from military to civilian rule.

However, the cabinet retained from previous government is a matter of concern for a decent majority of revolution with skepticism on the predecessor loyalists’ attempt to revive undemocratic governance as reported in Tunisia.

It would be reassuring to those members if such arrangement is strictly for transitional purpose with the general election expected to be held within six months or upon stabilizing political situation in a reasonable time frame sooner than later allowing fresh ideas and talent reflecting mainstream potential towards self-governance.

The Army clarification on the precise role in the transfer of power recently demonstrated with two crucial political steps are encouraging and addressing other issues such as release of all political dissidents along with lifting the state of emergency would exemplify similar democratic trends.

Additionally the military effort to redeploy police force to maintain law and order is an absolute requirement and again the public valid expectation in this regard to eliminate security personnel involved in instigated violence during political uprising would prevent any tensions between previous administration sympathizers and main street.

Essentially the departure of representatives associated with past regime at every level would prove the fundamental change for real democracy.

The military initiatives in acknowledgment of citizens’ proposals are positive steps and momentum in implementing outlined policies would restore political stability imperative for economic recovery.

Citizens’ involvement in government formation would be the preliminary aspect of nation building.

There are many challenges ahead nonetheless like stated earlier solidarity within society would ease the burden as witnessed in the revolution triumph over repression.

Egypt democracy is a test for the republic and the incumbent military power. The army’s conciliatory response thus far is promising and the revolution cautiously monitors the progress with an ultimate goal for civilian rule.

The economic development is equally a priority while remaining focused on political restructuring for the vast population deprived of basic living standards justifiably need assistance with jobs and promoting the strongest areas of the economy like tourism, agriculture, industrial, service sectors as well as academia would enhance the desirable growth.

It is evident from the successful revolution in Tunisia and Egypt with a ripple effect on other parts of the Arab world that the political freedom quest can no longer be suppressed for the people power is defiant and determined to prevail over decades of oppression leading to dire economic straits.

Egypt and Tunisia serve as a model in the liberation movement committed to peace and non-violence.

Now it’s time for them to display their ability in achieving meaningful democracy beneficial to all and not just the privileged groups in the society.

Your remarkable victory in ending authoritarianism is the foundation for realizing all other political and economic dreams.

Good Luck! To fellow citizens in Egypt, Tunisia…for a great new beginning.

Thank you.

Egypt Political Transition To Democratic Rule

February 12, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Egypt revolution having liberated their nation from over three decades of oppression is justifiably jubilant as they enter the preliminary phase in democracy.

Since the power has been transferred to Egyptian Supreme Council for Armed Forces reportedly briefing the U.S. military high command and defense secretary throughout the uprising and following the dictatorial Presidency termination,

There are legitimate concerns among the pro-democracy movement regarding the transition process under military rule.

The Supreme Council for Armed forces in their statement outlined the immediate tasks to be performed with details to follow later.

Egyptian revolution requests for republic governed democracy are:

Lifting the state of emergency as soon as the mass celebration is over.

Release of all political dissidents held in detention per the previous government order.

Parliament dissolution to conform to democratic representation across the political spectrum.

Constitution reform limiting Presidential term and authority.

Political rights, social equality and justice denied during the prolonged authoritarianism to be guaranteed in the redefined constitution.

Constructing constitutional framework adopting democratic principles and civil rights in addition to elaborating duties and responsibilities of state, legislative and judicial branches of the government.

Separation of powers with checks and balances for effective democratic system.

Women empowerment through political opportunity to reflect progressive values in a modern democracy.

Electorate active participation in governance and all legislative matter carried out with transparency and accountability to enable functional democracy.

Preparing the nation for free and fair democratic election to expedite political transformation from military to civilian rule under constitutional law.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian revolution has a major role in insuring that smooth and swift political transition takes place to republic satisfaction notwithstanding the longevity of democratic rule without being controlled by foreign powers or undemocratic domestic sources.

It is a crucial period for Egypt with unique opportunity to steer their country in a direction that solidifies political stability in an inclusive manner leading to social progress and economic prosperity for all.

Egypt sovereignty is now in the hands of the 80 million population and the energized youth leaders to develop the nation that has long been suppressed due to domestic and foreign oppression.

There are challenges ahead nonetheless having triumphed over repressive regime any obstacles from now onwards could be easily overcome through solidarity and strong political will in nation building.

Egyptian society is evidently resilient and resourceful with political passion to begin a new chapter in history.

Citizens in Egypt are also expected to prove against the pessimistic speculation pertaining to the newly acquired political freedom possibly squandered and the general trepidation on regional peace and security.

There is tremendous hope and confidence in the people of Egypt that they would maintain cordial relationship with all their neighbors and perhaps serve as the model for a thriving democracy in the region.

Egypt has emerged from extreme adversity and exhibited extraordinary resolve to achieve the long desired political outcome.

Democracy with people power is the ultimate goal and revolution vigilance to curb disruption in the political environment would lead to realizing the dreams.

Congratulations! Once again to the proud Egyptian Revolution for the bold initiative towards democracy.

Best Wishes to all fellow citizens in Egypt for a peaceful and bright future.

Thank you.

Instigated Violence in Egypt Revolution

February 3, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

The ongoing pro-democracy citizens’ march in Egypt is mired by state-sponsored brutal attacks against unarmed peaceful protesters left to fend for themselves on the international community watch.

In the twenty first century – humanity might have made tremendous progress in the attempt to re-enact universe creation and space exploration for alternative inhabitation.

However, unfortunately in humanitarian matter the contemporary period reflects the medieval times savagery to rein control over the innocent Egyptian people oppressed and persecuted for three decades by the democratic governments backed dictatorship.

The message from powerful nation on Egypt uprising as an internal affair and advising against external interference would be credible upon similar policy then preventing the invasion of sovereign Iraq with coalition forces from 35 countries under false pretext justified as the liberation cause through military aggression resulting in perpetual carnage and destruction until now.

Furthermore, mankind failure to recognize the consequences of apathy attributed to twentieth century holocaust leading to World War II and subsequent erroneous actions till today are largely responsible for human suffering.

President Hosni Mubarak evidently is not acting on his volition to stay in power.

The global organization orchestrating the terrible monstrosity under the guise of world leadership to proclaim dominance is self-misguided and impaired by false presumptions in the Machiavellian pursuit -the end justifies the means.

According to the news reports – the state instigated anarchy and violence with paid mob attacks against peaceful participants for freedom while the Egyptian army funded by U.S. military aid around $1.7 billion is a spectator to the provocative incidents defying military code of honor to protect lives and defend the nation from domestic as well as overseas infiltration.

The security personnel in civilian attire involved in the human casualties are deployed as servitudes depicting ancient rule to guard singular entity – President Hosni Mubarak advised by foreign sources to prolong the crisis despite the 80 million population decry and demand for immediate resignation from office.

President Hosni Mubarak insincere offer to negotiate with opposition signifies western powers strategy to marginalize the historic political transformation regarded an impediment to economic colonization and political imperialism in the region.

Adapting to the so-called war on terror policy –non-negotiation with terrorists would synonymously apply to autocratic rule.

Again selective amnesia is not uncommon in politics.

In 2003 the U.S. and allies rejected peace activists’ call for due diligence preceding the illegal military attack exhibited in shock and awe and occupation of Iraq.

It was then followed by authorized execution of the adversary (previously an ally) the former President Saddam Hussein in public view widely televised as the good triumphs over evil.

Although the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s atrocities within society in semblance to Egypt and other Middle East nations or elsewhere was widely known,

The urgency to eliminate the leadership emanated from the political conviction on Iraqi leaders’ imminent threat to U.S. and allies viz. Saudi Arabia…using non-traceable WMD, unsubstantiated links to 9/11 and Al-Qaeda among the prominent falsified reasons notwithstanding the economic dispute over Iraqi government nationalization of oil fields at that time.

Therefore the instruction to refrain from serving ultimatums to a totalitarian government under their embattled ally President Hosni Mubarak overtly backed by powerful democracies is hypocrisy at the least and reprehensible in reality.

President Hosni Mubarak and puppet figure heads controlled by the shadow world government maintaining authority on global resources and territories ought to reconcile terms with evolution through revolution determined to succeed against forces denying life existence driven by excess greed contributing to the status quo.

Reiterating the truth – Mortality is the shared destiny with individual deeds their testimony in life.

Egypt population non-violent plea for democracy deserves global empathy exemplified through international solidarity in delivering the legitimate outcome – terminating President Hosni Mubarak term in office effective immediately.

International condemnation to the crime against humanity in Egypt and alike would expedite the inevitable success.

Procrastination in compliance to public request would be unwise for the leadership and the affiliates.

The long overdue change can no longer be thwarted by the powerful and would be implemented regardless in a natural process.

Egyptian citizens having endured tyranny thus far must not lose hope for the plight is nearing end.

It is crucial for demonstrators to sustain their steel resolve through peace and non-violence and not relent in the quest for political freedom.

People in Egypt are part of the world society and injustice towards one is injustice against all.

The global citizens are urged to come forward and extend their overwhelming support to the noble cause – Republic power and real democracy in Egypt.

Best wishes to fellow citizens in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria… for a glorious victory in the dawn of democracy.

Thank you.

Egypt – Republic Revolution for Democracy

January 30, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Yet another country in North Africa is confronted with republic revolution against tyranny and oppression.

Egypt – the Pharaoh land has remained so until now with autocratic rule since declaration as the republic on July 18, 1953.

The systemic abuse of power and corruption in the political system has been endured by the 80 million people without any representation in governance.

Uprising in the past has been successfully quelled with violence by the security forces including intimidation through military presence in civilian zone – the standard practice of all repressive regimes in pro-democracy peaceful protest.

The political freedom struggle is never without sacrifice especially against totalitarian government emboldened by strong diplomatic and strategic relationships with powerful ‘democracies’ advising the embattled ally to contain the uprising and not called for renunciation of power due to vested interests.

Besides Egypt military funded with U.S aid in billions of dollars is believed to exert authority in power sharing with the unpopular government.

Egypt following Tunisia – triumphant in ousting the dictatorial power has suffered casualties reportedly around 100 in the past five days only expected to rise considering the incumbent political maneuvering to stay in power against republic will.

President Hosni Mubarak in a frantic effort to salvage the situation is reported to have appointed former intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman as the Vice President after 30 years vacuum and ex-aviation Minister Ahmed Shafiq as Prime Minister despite public rejection of the extemporaneous political decisions.

Further claims are the administration sought cabinet’s official resignation to prove the transitionary measures again not conforming to citizens’ demand seeking President Hosni Mubarak and affiliates removal from office.

Meanwhile curfew is imposed in major cities – Cairo, Alexandria, Suez…with communication sources shut down to restrict information flow on the ongoing political turmoil.

As for United States foreign policy in the latest political events around the world – it has been forthright in defending Southern Sudan secession with Abyei the disputed border territory between North and South Sudan remaining unresolved and contentious in the political quagmire predicted to trigger tribal confrontations.

Lebanon recent political stalemate leading to the government collapse attributed to United States prompted Special Tribunal for Lebanon against adversary Hezbollah on the alleged involvement in the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri assassination in 2005.

In contrast – Sudanese President Omar Bashir indicted by International Criminal Court for genocide in the prolonged civil war is least affected in the U.S quest for justice and continues to rein control over Africa’s largest nation now polarized with inevitable disintegration within having continental impact in the near future.

These political transformations around Egypt with Tunisia liberated through people power inspiring others in similar authoritative environment to implement fundamental change only possible through real democracy – the government of the people, by the people and for the people.

It is clear that democracy in Egypt and elsewhere can no longer be determined by the privileged members in the global society.

Defiance in this regard could exacerbate the political crisis resulting in more civilian casualties and possible destruction of world’s cherished treasures notwithstanding the rich cultural heritage in the land of ancient civilization.

Hence President Hosni Mubarak is urged to honor the mass request to gracefully step down from office and allow the democratic process to take place peacefully in accordance with national constitution.

People of Egypt have a greater responsibility to maintain non-violence and peace in their political pursuit for individual liberty and inalienable human rights.

The parties responsible for looting and vandalism referred to as anarchy in the news reports are not verifiable at this present time.

However, Tunisia had similar incidents and the government resistance forces were not ruled out in the crime and clarified as an attempt to portray the dissenters as offenders.

Nonetheless citizens can achieve their long desired goals for meaningful democracy without compromising on civility during demonstration and defend lives as well as national property in the historic liberation cause.

Egypt synonymous to any other nation is not devoid of intellectual talent, courage, integrity and selfless sacrifice required to lead the imminent democracy in the new beginning.

The democratic leader will be the one pledged to promote unity, secularism without hierarchy, social equality, political opportunity and economic progress for all.

Furthermore, Egypt will be an exemplary peace mediator in the Middle East and North Africa upon becoming a democratic nation under progressive leadership committed to universal peace and prosperity.

People in Egypt are close to realizing their dream for democracy and therefore extremely important to ensure the absence of nationalism and foreign intrusion in their political choice to eliminate the puppet figure perception among the disenfranchised population in the region.

National security rests on the current leadership in accepting the reality with people mobilization resilient to end President Hosni Mubarak era.

The armed forces engagement on the ground for reasons other than enforcing law and order would confirm the inconspicuous means to suppress the peaceful democratic movement in modern Egypt.

Likewise internal and external influences favoring the undemocratic government extension would be self-detrimental and foment anti-sentiments evolving into potential global threats.

There is tremendous hope for democracy to emerge in the transcontinental nation – Egypt with people power prevailing against the political establishment leaning towards dynastic rule in the twenty first century.

The government interim actions to sustain control over the unanimous call for the head of the state departure is counterproductive and instead conciliatory response would ease tension to enable smooth political exit.

Democracy in Egypt would facilitate peace in the Middle East deprived of political freedom and social justice contributing to economic disparity.

Invasion and occupation along with complacency to any political rule but democracy in the region has engendered terrorism and militancy used as the premise for incessant warfare.

Egypt is poised to experience political freedom in semblance to contemporary democracy and deserves international support in the extraordinary humanitarian challenge.

Birth of a nation or a paradigm shift in political concept could be expedited with global empathy exemplified in the coordinated political activity.

People in Egypt must keep their spirits high and aim for the positive outcome i.e. republic governance.

Best Wishes and Good Luck to all citizens in Egypt for a magnificent victory in the political strife for peaceful democracy.

Thank you.

World Economic Forum 2011 – Davos, Switzerland

January 28, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

The world economic forum is currently held in Davos, Switzerland. Many issues apart from the economy are discussed at this large consortium.

Economy is the priority for the population struggling with high unemployment, housing market decline from foreclosures in addition to credit crunch experienced by potential home buyers and small businesses alike.

The bank bailouts to eliminate toxic assets off the balance sheet and facilitate lending has been mostly utilized for mergers and acquisitions with ‘too big to fail’ status intact – the precise factor that prompted taxpayer funds interjection into the crumbling finance industry.

Corporate profits across the industrial spectrum are exceedingly high not barring financial institutions yet the jobless rate and liquidity in the credit market is stagnant exacerbating the ordinary citizens’ plight.

Manufacturing sector is drastically affected in the globalized economy. The developed and developing nations are confronted with reviving blue collar jobs desperately required to ease suffering among the working class.

Corporations incentivized with generous tax cuts, taxpayer funded capital infusion and labor unions suppression continue to venture overseas in search of mega profits ultimately shared among top management through huge bonuses while depriving the hard working majority the livelihood.

The offshore dealings might be lucrative for the corporate shareholders and the respective governments with foreign exchange reserves, the labor force over there are marginalized in terms of comparable wages and employment benefits.

Again factory workers in poorer nations are often exploited under harsh economic and political conditions attributed to multinational dominance in the regions receptive to foreign investors.

Environment abuse in the globalization era has been catastrophic for the poorest people living near the industrial sites.

The weak environment standards maintained predominantly to accommodate energy, pharmaceutical…industries’ policies in the developing nations are proved detrimental to the local residents diagnosed with serious health problems.

In the industrialized world, the lower income groups are exposed to health hazards emanating from chemical industrial waste and oil spills witnessed lately with pervasive impact on all living species.

Therefore the corporate ethical conduct in the domestic and international operations deserves attention with effective remedies to restore meaningful capitalism and globalization pursuit.

Inflation is a legitimate concern without having to raise interest rates in borrowing given the real estate slump and limited credit availability having a stranglehold on the national economies.

In order to increase supply to the growing demands of any goods as an alternative inflation control measure – the businesses need finance in the prevalent restricted credit facilities and the banks with capital have responsibility to lend qualified entrepreneurs thereby promoting job growth, consumer spending and investor confidence – all relevant to stimulate the global economy.

The bankers’ claiming the existing credit control is the result of the regulatory imposition in the wake of sub-prime and hedge fund mis-management does not bode well,

Since they could not apply to all financial products that could otherwise paralyze the credit networks representing the fundamental economic source.

Sound monetary policy allowing responsible money circulation and the currency value determined by market forces rather than arbitrary means could prevent currency devaluation disputes and trade wars contributing to disproportionate surpluses and deficits among economic powers.

Fiscal policy is focused on deficit reduction through austerity mainly targeting programs like health and education for the most vulnerable demographics.

Denying affordable educational access to present generation is prohibiting better economic future made possible with qualified efficient workforce and taxpayers in the competitive global settings.

Spending cuts in alarming defense expenditure and redundant wasteful projects instead of life dependent programs and services could produce desirable results in debt containment besides a healthy productive society benefitting all.

Generating revenue in the absence of tax hikes on the extraordinary income derived from the collective input distributed within privileged members in the society is evidently counterproductive for it escalates national debt other than widening the gap between the rich and poor.

Economic activities for growth stimulus are largely related to melting the liquidity freeze to enable cash strapped small businesses, retailers and manufacturers create jobs.

Resuming lending services to home buyers upon satisfying the eligibility criteria and refinancing options to help default home owners retain their property instead of losing in foreclosures with a negative impact on the national housing sales including the construction industry is guaranteed to expedite recovery.

Transparency in derivatives with mortgage securities identified as the primary cause in the 2008 financial market brink of collapse would build trust in the international security exchange.

Interest rates, transaction fees on credit cards and regular bank accounts still remain exorbitant despite the regulation passed to curb practices that led to phenomenal debt accumulation and bankruptcies in the United States.

Failure in adherence to legislation on predatory methods has no consequences with the banks conducting business as usual delineating Wall Street from Main Street.

The reforms in general are circumvented due to loopholes in the legislation and the political clout displayed with industry lobbyists winning $19 billion tax exemptions in financial reform, no premium caps in health care law, offshore drilling permits…confirming Wall Street control over U.S. political election and legislation.

Investments in infrastructure, green energy, innovative research and development in science and technology is paramount in the protectionist aspect.

However, there is no momentum in expediting projects perhaps due to inadequate funding and/or political reasons.

The industrialized and emerging economies pledge to the developing nations has not been delivered in action on the economy and environment that could essentially alleviate poverty, hunger and disease endured by many across the globe.

Political instability arising from oppression i.e. lack of freedom and individual rights is prompting citizens’ protest against repressive governments sheltered until now with diplomatic ties and trade relationships by powerful ‘democracies.’

Civilian uprising in Egypt and Yemen reveal the breaking point in public frustration towards
authoritarianism. Political independence in these countries is long overdue.

The overthrown government heads of the state are provided refuge as seen with Tunisian former President Ben Ali received by Saudi Arabia.

These events are indicative of the established complacency to undemocratic elements disrupting political, economic and social progress.

United States, France and Saudi Arabia were reportedly involved in Lebanon’s recent political fallout disabling government services in the sovereign nation.

Reluctance to expand U.N. Security Council permanent membership in acknowledgment of twenty first century geopolitical dynamics is an impediment to world peace. The ongoing polarization efforts foment terrorism and militancy used as the perpetual warfare premise.

Hence international solidarity exemplified in rejecting the status quo is imperative for fair distribution of global resources, honoring individual liberty, political rights, social equality ultimately leading to universal economic prosperity.

World economic forum is a unique opportunity to resolve myriad humanitarian challenges through constructive dialogue and powerful strategies for a new peaceful beginning.

Wishing a successful economic summit in Davos, Switzerland.

Thank you.

The State of the Union Address to the 112th Congress

January 25, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

President Barack Obama is scheduled to address the 112th Congress later today on the administration’s achievements and lay out the future national and international goals.

The economy is the central focus for the main street considering the high unemployment, struggling housing market with alarming foreclosures, credit crunch experienced by small businesses and average Americans despite the bank bailouts to facilitate lending to qualified entrepreneurs as well as retailers in the credit market.

Manufacturing sector other than auto industry deserves fair attention in the globalized economy. The blue collar jobs lost over the decades since adopting the overwhelming globalization policy has triggered trade wars, currency disputes and contributed to disproportionate trade surpluses and deficits among economic powers.

Even though protectionism is overtly rejected by G-20 members, the current economic situation beckons national investments to stimulate domestic growth and purchasing power required to import goods in the world trade exchange.

Contrary to the conviction, protectionist measures to promote local manufacturing and subsequently consumerism will offset the existing trade imbalance and uplift the economically disadvantaged groups in the society.

Most nations like China have diverted to internal demand and supply partly from the currency controversy that provided enormous leverage to the world’s leading manufacturer at the poorer and rich nations’ detriment evident in the importers’ job status notwithstanding the rising national debt.

The MFN status renewal by the United States is another factor attributed to the trade anomaly.

United States is adapting to the changing trend with investments in infrastructure and green technology but yet to gain momentum across the industrial spectrum given the job statistics.

Corporate America responsible for the industrial growth is attracted to offshore dealings predominantly due to economic advantages such as subsidized labor and weak environment standards including tax evasion incentives offered in some parts of the world.

Although legislations passed until now from health care, financial reform, Bush Tax cuts extension to impending energy bill favor corporate agenda through lobbyists influence in Capitol Hill, the prevalent defection confirms the exceedingly high profit expectations at the ordinary citizens’ expense.

National deficit reduction is a relevant debate right now. Regrettably, the strategies are aimed at the demography worst hit in the economic recession.

Spending cuts is exclusively targeted at essential services rather than trimming the discretionary defense budget and the military expenditures in the ongoing wars especially when acknowledged to have no implications on national security.

Revenue is not part of the equation with tax exemptions granted to the top 1% wealthiest against the remaining population contributing to the economic revival through vital retail consumption.

Austerity is necessary to contain national debt.

However, the proposals protecting the affluent elitist with a direct impact on the vast majority – the real victims in the economic downturn reflects the promise delivered to the campaign donors and not the electorate casting the ballots to alleviate their plight.

In other legislative matter – the successful passage of ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repeal’ is a precedence to honor the constitutional and basic human rights of all citizens regardless of individual identity.

Education is the fundamental tool for economic progress in any society. The Congressional provisions in this regard are poignant nonetheless the effects seemingly compromised with the State budget crisis at the historic peak.

Again slashing public education funds considered under the current House bill would constitute misplaced priorities depriving the economy from productive workforce and future taxpayers.

Environment laws initiated in 2009 marginalized and reversed in 2010 with decisions like offshore drilling resumption, EPA regulations delayed…emanating from energy industry pressure.

Foreign Policy – Continuation of the previous administration legacy intensified with consistent pattern established in coup d’état and destabilize foreign governments – viz. Honduras, Ecuador, Lebanon…

Appointment of inefficient and unpopular governments in Iraq, Afghanistan…demonstrating power politics.

North Korea peace talks offer in July 2010 through former President Jimmy Carter ignored.

Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process – jeopardized with conflicting interests.

Maintaining double standards in conventional arms supply and nuclear programs undermines the crucial START treaty.

The reality being Wall Street rules Washington in economic matter meanwhile the military industrial complex reigns control over warfare and foreign policy.

Change is possible when the republic governance is restored in a democracy.

U.S. China Relations and Global Impact

January 20, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Hon. President Hu Jintao of China is currently on a state visit to the United States.

The head of the state arrival in the U.S. is pivotal to promote bilateral relationship on economic, political and strategic matter having a direct global impact.

Many issues have been brought to attention that requires mutual understanding and cooperation. The economic reality with United States as the largest consumer and China being the major manufacturer as well as creditor are inter-dependent to succeed in their respective ambitions.

China is the fastest growing economy with tremendous potential to be an effective global partner in resolving international crises.

Although the dialogue between the two nations in strengthening ties has been consistent in the past two years, the intentions are yet to be delivered in action on the domestic and international fronts.

The preliminary step towards fostering simultaneous growth is to review the activities and modify strategies beneficial to both economies with equal responsibility to contain the burgeoning economic crisis.

At present the huge anomalies in surplus and deficits between China and the United States is contentious and attributed to trade imbalance, fiscal and monetary policy variation besides incoherent business practices hindering investor confidence on economic returns.

China’s currency devaluation and other grievances such as intellectual property rights infringement, U.S. corporations’ access denial to fair market share are potent in the existing undercurrents that could be mitigated if not eliminated through acknowledgment and appropriate decisions.

Concurrently, the United States bears the burden to revive domestic economy centralized on job retention and creation along with national debt reduction to offset economic disparity.

While measuring economic status between China and the United States on per capita income – it is true that United States compares better than China due to the disproportionate population ratio.

However, the 13 percent poverty rate for the United States as a developed nation signifies the widening gap between the rich and poor in wealth distribution. This situation is largely contributed by politics undermining economics with no regard for national consequences.

Reiterating the earlier statement that balance of trade conversely enhancing economic prospects is critical in the competitive global environment.

With respect to strategic alliance on Iran and North Korea – China’s defiance in the U.N. Security Council against Iran and passivity on negotiations with Korea apparently frustrating the United States.

Similarly, the United States reaction via naval drill with South Korea on the Yellow Sea and response to Iranian civil nuclear program contrasting the Vietnam deal is perceived by China as provocative and U.S. double standards.

The facts confirm the power politics and self-interest on both sides escalating turmoil in the region.

Again the solution to stalemate in foreign policy agreements is the permanent membership expansion at the U.N. Security Council.

United States endorsement of India and assurance to Japan in this context qualifies as rhetoric given the status quo.

The Security Council extension representing each region detailed previously on many occasions could be effective in addressing various global problems.

Reluctance to accept pragmatic remedies reflects the desire for dominance in the constantly evolving economic and political dynamics.

Shifting focus on U.S and China – the recognition on travel and tourism, educational and cultural exchange is relevant and further commitments are commendable.

In humanitarian issues – U.S. is faced with Guantanamo Bay, mercenary operatives in the war zones like Iraq and Afghanistan, renditions, habeas corpus, military aggression instead of economic and social development, cited in coup d’état and political unrest in Latin America, Africa, Middle East…and notably the leading arms supplier in the world.

Notwithstanding environment abuse witnessed in oil spills and rescinding environment regulations to appease energy industry.

China’s impressive economic progress and environmental pursuit in the new millennium are overshadowed by the prevalent political system entailing:

Human rights violation against the people of China

Suppression of democracy

Imprisonment of Chinese dissidents

Failure to curb human trafficking and organ extortion in and from China.

Interference in foreign nations’ visitor protocol – example United States and India.

Music, Movies and Software piracy reported by entertainment and technology sector.

Arms supply to Africa.

Aiding ethnic cleansing in Sri Lanka.

Promoting tension between Pakistan and India on Kashmir.

Territorial dispute with India and incursion in the northeastern border concerning the Indian states Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

Refusal in acknowledgment of Taiwan’s sovereignty.

Forging defense and economic partnership with the dictatorial regime, the military Junta in Burma.

Declining support in the global financial regulations on tax havens used by corporations.

And

The illegal invasion and occupation of the independent nation – Tibet subjecting

Innocent men, women, children and the Buddhist Monks of Tibet to persecution.

Systemic eradication of Tibetan culture.

Desecration of the Tibetan shrines and Buddhist religion constituting sacrilegious in the highest order.

It is clear that both nations share guilt and glory in the contemporary era.

Their phenomenal accomplishments made possible by diverse resources most importantly the valuable human capital not adequately provided for and evident in immense hardships endured by the vast majority in the relatively affluent societies.

The industrialized and emerging economies could supplement one another in harmony rather than acrimony. Subsequently utilize the combined prosperity to uplift other developing nations seeking economic and political guidance.

Collective participation is vital to overcome global challenges like epidemic from communicable disease, natural disasters, environment protection, economic recession and international security.

It is in the best interests of the two illustrious nations to work together and reconcile differences to attain reciprocal economic gains.

Naturally the long lasting peace between the two militarily strong nuclear nations rests on building honest and trustworthy partnership now and in the future.

Best Wishes to U.S. China relation for a new beginning with hope and tranquility permeating across the globe.

Thank you.

Race

January 18, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Race is a contentious matter. Hence thoughts are presented in this blog – an innovative medium to express views and comments.

Cyberspace is a platform where the voiceless can have a voice or be heard through someone on their behalf on any issue.

It is not necessary to go through the Red Tape or be newsworthy to be a news item in the prominent media and print press. There is no requirement to be part of any influential circle either.

An average citizen with internet access can state an opinion or recount an experience that is relevant to all or none. It has unequivocally revolutionized communication in the new millennium.

Mankind Giant Leap in this regard is poignant.

However, have we made progress in human relations?

Why is it difficult for the most intelligent species in the animal kingdom hierarchy to co-exist in harmony and accept one another as human beings first and then anything next?

We have been gifted with the discriminatory power. Unfortunately, it is being used effectively for negative purpose than otherwise.

It is believed that ‘God created all equal.’

Do we all think like the creator?

Perhaps then the status quo would be delightfully different.

Since evolution many battles and wars have been fought over land, wealth, resources…with the ulterior motive being Power and dominance of one segment over another.

The global dire situation is attributed to human quest for endless needs at other inhabitants’ peril. Human suffering along with several species extinction are caused by environment abuse largely recognized as greed.

Historically people in general are stigmatized and victimized by fellow human beings.

We are living in an imperfect world – Yet there is a desperate search for perfection among humans.

People come in all shapes and sizes notwithstanding variation in skin pigmentation – the acknowledgment on the unique genetic composition could promote higher tolerance.

Will this world be an exciting place as it is now in the absence of such diversity around us in all aspects?

It is evident in human history that a secular and diverse society achievements are substantial compared to a homogeneous society.

The collective talent available in the heterogeneous society is a formidable challenge for those against the concept.

There could be no better example than the United States having triumphed the trials and tribulations of homogeneous vs. heterogeneous society.

This great nation’s phenomenal success in every field is the result of the cosmopolitan intellectual and varied skills maintained since origin.

It is a country that set precedence in modern times for other nations to embrace multiculturalism and secularism as milestones for humanitarian progress.

Then why is race a sensitive topic to discuss?

Can discriminatory practice towards human beings be ever eliminated in any society?

If that happens, it will be Utopia. Why seek heaven or paradise?

Nonetheless there is hope considering that goodness still exists in the paradoxical universe.

The racial and cultural diversity is complex for it presents prospects and problems in every domain.

The world will be peaceful and prosperous if people could receive one another as the member of the human race.

Importantly rather than detecting flaws in others it would be wise to acknowledge one’s own shortcomings that every individual possess at some level regardless of identity.

Introspection is self-cleansing and a natural process to develop empathy.

Should the entire race and culture be held responsible and vilified for an individual or a group of individuals’ action or behavior?

Regrettably, human tendency to analyze others based on predisposed views and speculations is not uncommon creating obstacles in relationships.

Then what about nobility demonstrated by human beings of a particular sect that is targeted for any wrong doing?

Should society ignore the positive contributions of these individuals even if they are presumed a minority?

There is no particular race or culture that is spared about anything in the contemporary society.

We can overcome prejudice only if human beings can alienate themselves from the qualities and characteristics that allow conflict over compassion, caring and consideration for others.

It is up to mankind to practice goodness for pervasive happiness.

There could be no better legacy than virtuous deeds that would benefit all.

The truth is – despite tremendous accomplishments in science and technology,

Mortality is certain and no one is assured eternal life on earth.

The other reality being when we all bleed; the color of the blood is the same no matter who we are!

These facts prove the theory that ‘all are created equal.’

Thank you.

Happy New Year – The World Welcomes 2011!

January 2, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

New Year Greetings to all!

Amid great many challenges ahead the world welcomes the year 2011 with hope and joy.

Human beings have consistently proved that they have the ability to overcome hardships and achieve their goals.

Reflection on the 2010 domestic and global events leads to specific issues that require public attention.

The 2010 legislative actions would clarify the impact on the economy and the ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet in the difficult situation.

In the economic front, the job market recovery is much anticipated among the long term unemployed and underemployed citizens forced to survive on jobless benefits gained after a huge compromise on the tax cuts for the wealthiest – offering the average Americans temporary relief in exchange for a permanent tax burden.

Winning the Bush tax cuts extension to billionaires is motivating the legislators to risk baby boomers and seniors’ lifeline – Social Security.

The strong initiative to privatize Social security and increase retirement age to relieve the super-rich from tax payments is no surprise given the precedence in France pension bill incorporating the agenda.

Financial institutions on their part ensured that business is conducted as usual with little or no regard for the regulations introduced in 2010 Financial Reform due to their victory from the $19 billion tax exemption in legislation despite their major role in the global economic recession.

Their commitment to revive the economy through lending was expected to meltdown the liquidity freeze in the credit market which is yet to be fulfilled based on the prevalent facts.

Health care law passed last year mandated that the health insurance industry provide coverage to patients with pre-existing conditions.

However, the absence of premium caps on the coverage enables industry set arbitrary pricing currently hurting the subscribers in the health care for minors, since the adults will not be eligible until the health care law is effective in 2014.

Moreover the mandatory insurance subscription in the health care rule leaves the vulnerable patients i.e. the individuals with pre-existing illnesses no choice but comply with the health insurance industry policy facilitating industry dominance likely to be worsened upon becoming the law with substantial subscribers joining the insurance pool per legislative requirement.

The people are confronted with three vital issues – employment, credit needed for job creation subsequently stimulating consumer spending along with health care costs – quintessential for economic rebound in the year 2011 and beyond.

As bizarre it might be those responsible for the burgeoning crises are the beneficiaries in the deals with enormous tax liability transferred to the victims.

Defense spending on wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq is prolonged until 2014 with greater ambivalence on exit strategy alongside mounting casualties and the exhausted armed personnel spread thin across the combat zones.

The Senate ratification of U.S. and Russia START treaty is a preliminary step towards non-proliferation,

Juxtaposed to the White House nuclear agreement with Vietnam and offer to Iran offset the efforts in strategic arms control.

With respect to climate change – The energy sector pressure reportedly prompted the White House decision on Environment Protection Agency postponement of rigorous emission standards to curtail smog and toxic pollution in the atmosphere.

Furthermore, the federal agency plan to permit Shell Oil offshore drilling in the Arctic makes the U.S consent disingenuous at the climate summit.

The intriguing factors in all of the above mentioned issues are – net gain for Wall Street and military industrial complex is phenomenal in the White House negotiated legislation considering the democrats controlled Congress until 2010.

Again as for the political party representation – The Democratic White House had Democrat majority in the House and the Senate until December 2010.

Industries prevailing in all legislation confirm the special interests influence in Washington – notably in the lucrative health care, finance reform and Bush tax cuts for wealthy.

The democratic Congressional leaderships and the progressive members were dedicated to the American electorate and national interests.

Their hard work and determination made legislation on certain social issues such as Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and Health care for 911 rescue workers possible surviving the routine gridlock in Capitol Hill.

Similarly the moderate Republican members like Senators Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski and few others cooperation helped in avoiding impasse on these crucial legislation.

The 112th Congress with Republican majority in the House and Senate expansion is pledged to deficit reduction by slashing life dependent services to the population at the bottom after contributing to the problem through extravagant tax exemptions to Wall Street and billionaires.

Global economic review bear semblance to Washington setbacks emanating from fiscal mismanagement.

European austerity to address respective national debt was overwhelmingly opposed by the main street as seen in France, United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Ireland.

Nonetheless the legislation passed against public protest is suggestive of the minority will exerted on the world population.

The U.S. State department and National Security under the incumbent administration handling of political quagmire in Afghanistan and Iraq shared identical solutions with the power entrusted to unpopular leaderships against electoral mandate.

Likewise the U.S State department’s behind the scenes preparation to reinstate deposed leadership in Pakistan revealed during the cable leaks poses the questions on legitimacy behind extended military operation and Osama Bin Laden whereabouts since he is claimed to be alive?

The failed coup d’état in Ecuador last year is a compelling evidence for national vigilance against foreign power intervention undermining democracy. The reports cited the CIA and U.S. State department’s involvement in the attempt.

Mid-East peace talks stalled with the U.S stance on letting settlements growth in Palestinian territories.

It is clear from the synopsis that the concentrated power among the nexus group successfully depriving the significant rest of political, social and economic prospects.

The republic voice in a democracy – press, news media and the elected officials’ complacency with the exception of selective honorable figures has exacerbated the status quo.

Those executing these fundamentally destructive policies for pure self-interest are not even subject to due explanation or accountability.

Instead they are granted impunity to abuse power and exercise authority in advancing the conglomerate scheme with ulterior motives.

Hence it is obligatory on the people from all walks of life across the globe to rise to the occasion and decline the oligarchy supremacy devastating lives to the point of no return.

History is testimony to the fact that change has been brought upon by the ordinary people standing up against those with extraordinary power.

It is often forgotten that the ultimate power lies with the people as the workers, employees, consumers, taxpayers and potently the electorate.

Any damages to the source inevitably affects the top of the hierarchy. When the foundation in the society is weakened the structure crumbles as a result.

It is never too late to reverse course and deliver the people’s right to individual freedom with equal access to political, social and economic opportunities.

Politics espousing democratic principles exemplified in public service produce desirable outcome benefitting all rather than the privileged few.

People power is best utilized in major transformation desperately needed at the present time.

Happy New year to all for a productive and peaceful beginning!

Thank you.
