A Star is Born – The Son of God as the Savior

By Padmini Arhant

The world rejoices the birth of a star from heaven whose mere presence on earth salvaged the misguided, illuminated the ignorant and enlightened the pious. This shining brilliant light dispelled the darkness by spreading knowledge about truth, love and inner peace. The reference made to none other than the Lord Jesus, the son of God as the savior.

Lord Jesus is not only the guiding force for the followers of Christianity but also others from the secular base. As a noble yet humble preacher, Lord Jesus touched upon innumerous hearts and minds with his profound message for humanity. Jesus demonstrated his teachings through indomitable service and sacrifice to lead mankind towards salvation.

Those who followed Lord Jesus attained sainthood and became worthy of worship. While others found a purpose to life. Jesus taught human beings to be caring, loving and compassionate to one another. Despite the passage of time, Lord Jesus is the glory of God.

Most religions have their own Prophet, Messiah or the spiritual guides and the common instruction is the Universal love and peace to liberate the soul from the cyclical misery and suffering.

In the contemporary era the human beings desire for the material comforts associated with power, fame and fortune have led to the deterioration of human character, accepting the illusory status as the eternal bliss. However, there are some rich and famous personalities serving as good Samaritans in the society for the young to follow lead. But again, a majority pursues the path to confusion despite the spiritual guidance and moral standards established by the celestial and sentient beings.

Disinheriting the negative traits that cause harm to self and others is the simple step towards a peaceful existence. The global environment thrives when there is empathy enabling the development of friendship and good relationship between neighbors and distant nations. Today’s problems are the result of excess greed and hubris to amass wealth and territories beyond the capability to control. In the process the thread holding the fabric is splitting at the seams and visible in the economic and ecological imbalance eventually affecting the human spirit.

New beginnings await in the horizon and it’s up to individuals to either accept or reject the prospects for a better future. It’s easier to decide only when the human mind distinguishes between illusion and reality alongside temporary and permanent effects.

Peace and happiness rests with individual’s choice in life. It’s best to embrace simplicity over complexity and avoid unnecessary frustrations from it. Human beings are gifted with the discriminative power that enhances their intelligence to make informed decisions. Regrettably, not all utilize the ability for the common benefit. If it’s used then unfortunately for the wrong instead of the right reasons. One can begin with the mindset in accepting one another as human beings first prior to
any other denominations. By doing so, any personal and the surrounding crisis can be resolved in harmony and not acrimony.

There is still hope when the course of action is changed to deliver positive outcome. In essence, a greater degree of the responsibility lies with the individuals in their approach to life.

Since the year-end quarter marks the festive season and celebrations for most religions, I take the opportunity to wish the followers of the respective faiths and members of the society around the world retrospectively, for I might have missed the occasions not by choice but due to circumstances and duly apologize for the belated greetings.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa to those following the tradition in the United States and other parts of the world.

Ramzan aka Ramadan for the people of Islamic faith – Observed with fasting and prayer.

Moving back, it’s Buddha Purnima also known as Vesak and Buddha Jayanti in India – commemorating Lord Gautama Buddha’s birth and attainment of Nirvana – enlightenment of soul through universal knowledge. It’s symbolic in the nations that follow Buddhism as the major or one of the many important religions like in India and other parts of Asia.

On November 2, 2009 there was a an auspicious celebration for the followers of Sikhism –
Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak Birthday. Guru Nanak is the leading saint and the spiritual guide who preached the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Holy Scripture sharing the common elements of all other religions to overcome the negative vices and discipline the mind from doing harm to self and others. The scripture emphasize on service to humanity through benevolence and that is admirably followed by the majority of Sikhs in India and elsewhere.

As a secular being, I pay my equal respect and reverence to all faiths with the personal belief that life is the manifestation of energy from a singular source regarded as the supreme entity in the spiritual sense.

Season’s Greetings, Happy Holidays and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year to the fellow citizens in the United States and around the World.

Thank You.
