Thailand’s Political Crisis and Peaceful Resolution
May 17, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The Thai government’s political crackdown through military might against the Red-Shirt protesters representing the rural poor and the urban working class population is autocratic than democratic.
Thailand is a nation with a history of military coups and a constitutional monarchy as the ceremonial head of the state.
Accordingly, democracy finds itself between a rock and a hard place.
The National United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship aka UDD and their supporters known as the Red Shirts are the discontent mainstream population in the rural and urban areas of the country marginalized by the current government whose representatives are regarded the elitist least concerned about the populist plight.
Having experienced the effective economic policies that,
Reduced poverty by half within four years,
The country’s first universal health care program,
Education, energy and a controversial yet seemingly popular anti-drug campaign under the deposed Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, the political crisis has been looming since 2005.
Thai politics is complex with the military junta, judiciary, corporate interests, communications media including the news corps and the monarchy exerting authority in the so-called democracy.
In a nutshell, except for the people participating in the voting process, the power is shared among the entities in the hierarchy.
While modern democracy is accustomed to some communication media not barring certain print press positioning with the authority in power in the self-contradictory newscast of their political idols fitting the profile – ‘journalism gone awry,’
The deep-seated problem with Thai governance is the cart blanche military power in direct control of the political system as witnessed in the 2006 coup d’état and now in the political violence producing civilian casualties in the State Capital, Bangkok.
People protesting the economic disparity called for ceasefire against civilians and pleaded with the authorities to begin peaceful negotiations.
The Red-Shirt protesters demand the incumbent Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva’s resignation.
The P.M. is confirmed to have been sworn in December 2008, through political maneuvering by the judicial and the military power not excluding the bureaucrats pledged allegiance to royalty.
In addition, the demonstrators seek Parliament dissolution for new general election due to lack of representation in addressing the Main Street problems.
The government via military has declined the proposals and continue the use of live ammunition against dissenters to disperse the crowd and imposed state emergency in most parts of the country.
With the internal security act in effect, the government’s systemic abuse of power against the people cannot be disregarded.
There appears to be serious violation of democratic principles starting with the explicit control of the communication media preventing the information flow, the only resource available to the economically disadvantaged groups in the anti-government rally.
The government excessive force has been prevalent since the anticipated political uprising during the military rule between 2006 and 2007 leading to the appointment of the current Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva until the present time.
If the government in power were to focus on alleviating the economic woes like poverty,
unemployment, wage discrimination, housing, maintaining the universal health care, clean and safe environment…the basic expectations from citizens across the socio-economic spectrum on which it’s dependent for electoral votes,
The clash between the political class and the poor working class in the rural-urban areas would be non-existent.
Besides, the privileged members exploring opportunities to gain or remain in power for self-interest instead of the public and national interest is often the cause for political turmoil with the anti-government sentiments at its peak.
The government’s failure to deal with the economic and social challenges contributes to the political instability eventually threatening national security.
In this particular instance, democracy is undermined by the Kingdom’s regent; the military empowered to execute policies against the electorates’ will.
Public disappointment in the political system run by the nexus organization is justified in a democracy.
Therefore, it’s obligatory on the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to comply with the people’s request for troop withdrawal and refrain from shooting the civilians in public square.
Military role is honorable in national defense i.e. protecting citizens’ lives unlike the contrary.
At the same time, the Red Shirt protesters must leave the site and abandon activities endangering the public and the environment.
Based on the evidence in the ongoing political crisis,
The Premier had rejected peaceful negotiations with the representatives of the rural poor and working class population causing civilian deaths that could have been prevented in the prolonged political unrest.
Notwithstanding, the undemocratic events of the military coup and the Premier’s subsequent appointment expended in defending the right to remain in office rather than resolving the issues constructively in national interest,
The call for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s resignation is appropriate allowing democracy to prevail through free and fair elections where the candidates would represent the republic of Thailand with a sincere commitment to serve the constituents per “The 1997 People’s Constitution.”
Political decisions and appointments from 2006 until now, specifically the 2007 Constitution of Thailand established by the military junta is null and void.
Further, an independent inquiry to investigate the abuse of power resulting in political oppression and loss of human lives is recommended.
Best Wishes to the people of Thailand!
Sovereignty, eternal peace and prosperity is the inevitable outcome of the political resolution.
Thank you.

Iraq’s New Government – Imperative for National and Regional Stability
May 15, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Following the article titled “Iraq’s Political Stalemate – Solution to a Promising Future,” published on the website May 14, 2010,
The topic is continued to lay emphasis on the serious ramifications for a nation without the republic approved political power in office.
According to the latest reports, the Iraqi election results declare the secular Shiite leader – Ayad Allawi, the winner with strong Sunni and other minority party support for having secured the most parliament seats.
The former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s undemocratic stance by excluding the Sunnis and forming a coalition with religious Shiites to challenge the electoral outcome is worthy of condemnation.
Further, the election commission has confirmed in response to vote verification demand for inaccuracy that:
“A full recount in Baghdad province showed no fraud or major irregularities.”
Thus invalidating the ex- Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki’s claim against the winning party on voter fraud.
Meanwhile, the Sunnis concern about being eliminated from the coalition by the Maliki government and the repercussions are evident in the relentless violence orchestrated by the militants with a yet another bomb explosion outside a mosque South of Baghdad reportedly killing 20 people, in addition to the 119 people who died earlier last week.
Simultaneously, the reports cite the tragic 10 people deaths caused by a suicide bomber in the northern city of Tal Afar, near a soccer field.
Above all, Al-Qaida is wasting no time in exploiting the worst developments for a potential full-blown ‘sectarian warfare,’ attributed to political obstinacy displayed by the former Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki.
Al-Qaida’s network in Iraq operating under the name ‘Minister of War,’ is a by-product of the brewing tension arising from the illegitimate political power espousing partisan politics in a secular society.
The deliberate attempt to destabilize the political environment contributing to sectarian attacks is favorable to the militants, terror networks, occupiers and the political power seeking indefinite term in office despite the electoral defeat.
Therefore, it’s incumbent upon the vying candidate and the former Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki to honor the national election mandate and concede to the democratically elected winner, and secular Shiite leader, Ayad Allawi.
Democratic elections are meaningless if the losing party defy the electorates will and the transition in power deemed discretionary.
Iraqis have endured tyranny, persecution, endless death and destruction.
The people of Iraq regardless of religious sect deserve peace and political stability.
Iraqis must come together instead of rising against one another and exercise their power to restore democracy by granting the winner with most Parliament seats, the leader Ayad Allawi, the opportunity to assume office as the Prime Minister of Iraq effective immediately.
Throughout history, the civil movements have been responsible for changing the course of their country towards freedom, peace, social and economic progress.
Iraq is home to all citizens irrespective of the perceived differences among them. It’s important for both sides to renounce violence in thoughts, words and deeds in order to become trustworthy.
What they are struggling to achieve individually, they will accomplish collectively upon accepting one another as human beings and Iraqi first prior to any classification.
By staying united as Iraqi citizens, they can drive the forces causing indiscriminate chaos and carnage including the epidemic – political corruption.
Both Shiites and Sunnis need to put their grievances aside by moving forward with a common goal to make Iraq a shrine of peace, unity and prosperity.
Political uncertainty without a functional government is a major threat to national security.
The recently elected Iraqi officials are constitutionally bound to form a government and it’s been over two months past the elections, the democratically elected leader has not been sworn in officially.
Unfortunately, the status quo is not denounced in spite of the innocent Iraqi civilians targeted in the erupting sectarian conflict.
The electorate has spoken in the democratic electoral process with the secular Shiite leader, Ayad Allawi as the preferred head of the state.
Congratulations! To the Prime Minister of Iraq, Ayad Allawi and,
Wishing Success in the unified Iraq through fair Parliamentary representation to address the individual and common issues.
Thank you.

Iraq’s Political Stalemate and Solution to a Promising Future
May 14, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
It has been over two months for the parliamentary elections in Iraq and the nation is without a new government thus far.
Since there is no absolute majority winner, the political parties have been scrambling to form a coalition unsuccessfully.
The situation has created a void in the absence of ruling government allowing insurgency to re-emerge that claimed 119 civilian lives on Monday 10, 2010.
Further, the U.S. troop withdrawal with August 31 deadline and the complete pull out from Iraq by the end of 2011 is contingent on the political stability.
The military perspective is “to hold as many forces on the ground until the need to redeploy them.”
Even though, the security agreement between Iraq and the United States requires the U.S. exit by the end of 2011, that now appears to be improbable from the military officials’ statements.
If this is not a wake up call to the elected officials in Iraq, then nothing can revive democracy in the war torn nation.
The Iraqi election mandate was clearly in favor of a secular representation predominantly seeking an end to the sectarian violence that has crippled the economy and stifled the troop withdrawal.
Despite the secular Shiite leader Ayad Allawi being the front runner in the election with strong backing from the Sunnis and different political parties,
The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Shiite alliance with the religious Shiite and Iran is being pushed forward for a second term by those preventing peace to prevail in the country that has lost millions of innocent lives to incessant bombings and shootings.
Such undemocratic maneuvering is provoking the Sunni and other minorities causing immense frustration.
The anxiety is exploited by the militants responsible for the insurgency in 10 cities lately and the foreign troops to postpone departure.
Further, the Maliki government with strong Iranian support has failed to curb the earlier attacks allegedly influenced by Iran arguably polarizing the diverse society.
Iraqis were looking forward to a democratically elected government strong on the economy and national security.
Knowing the leadership that would bring the different political factions together rather than strengthening their own representation is likely to succeed in the national endeavor.
Similar expectations were prevalent among other Arab nations concerned about Iran’s ally – the Maliki government’s consecutive term de-legitimizing the Sunnis and others in the Shiite dominant Parliament.
Besides, the events replicating the political outcome in Afghanistan is evident in Iraq with the killings on the rise and the foreign troops presence extended indefinitely utilizing the political discord and social unrest as the reasons for the decision.
However, unlike Afghanistan, Iraqi election completed its process regardless of the routine electoral complaints for inaccuracy in certain districts, delivering the secular Shiite leader, Ayad Allawi as the front runner and the preferred choice.
Whenever the incumbent administration with the following traits:
In agreement with the foreign troops occupation,
Contributing to the political turmoil by rejecting the democratic results against the electorates will and determined to prolong its power,
That government has a bleak future.
Their focus is centered on remaining in office rather than resolving national issues.
With the lack of consensus during the self-appointed term, not much progress is anticipated in the legislative matter fomenting public disappointment and anger in all directions.
Any political power conspicuously inept at governance with the fragmented political structure in constant disapproval of legislations generates a leadership vacuum.
The dilemma is exemplified in Afghanistan and Iraq, the twenty first century battlegrounds with no end in sight, in the war on terror including the deepening political and national security crisis.
Iraq has tremendous potential to reverse its course due to the vast geographic and demographic advantages that exists.
Enriched in oil, there is enormous economic opportunity for nation reconstruction provided the political system be solidified with the multifaceted representation.
In addition, the Iraqi population is educated and suitably trained in the respective fields for the desirable GDP growth.
The perpetual carnage and destruction exacerbated with the political uncertainty has deprived them of a stunning economic performance.
The Shiite policy associating the present Sunni and other minorities with the inhumane past is detrimental to the country’s future. Injustice against one or the few affects the entire society.
It’s important to recognize one another as an Iraqi prior to any other denomination.
The vengeful act is counterproductive and benefits none.
National unity irrespective of the unique cultural and religious attributes could deal with any internal or external threats and the society thrives in harmony.
Consolidating the talents and resources accelerates the individual achievements reflected in the common goal.
Human beings across the globe share the basic aspirations – freedom, peace, secure jobs, good education, health care access and clean environment.
Anything beyond that is made possible with en masse creative and innovative ideas for greater good.
The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s visit to Iran and the close ties with the Iranian regime, prominent for human rights abuse and regional threats is a major impediment for a credible majority rule in Iraq under this administration.
Subsequent to the Kurdish political activists execution in Iran on May 9, 2010,
The autonomous Kurdistan in the national politics might face legitimate opposition among their constituents demanding non-coordination with Prime Minister Maliki led Parliament.
Leaving the prospective Allawi administration as the only alternative – a coalition government per the Iraqi constitution.
Iraq is historically a secular nation. Therefore, it cannot afford to let one group be dominant over others as witnessed in the Shiite bloc headed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Sunni representation in the Parliament is essential to curtail domestic terrorism and enable peaceful existence for the people of Iraq.
Likewise, the Kurdish constitutional rights need to be acknowledged to the fullest extent in a real democracy.
The Kurdish impressive victory in Kurdistan and the disputed areas is well deserved, considering the persisting brutality against them in the Middle East.
Similarly, the secular Shiite leader, Ayad Allawi’s rainbow coalition is the ideal political option for the long-suffering people of Iraq.
Iraq is still experiencing relentless assaults after millions of lives sacrificed in the illegal invasion and occupation.
It’s in the best interest of the people – the Sunnis, the Shiites, the Kurds, the Assyrians and other minority groups to come together and govern Iraq in a democratic system with the secular leader, Ayad Allawi as the Prime Minister.
Without a shadow of doubt, the unified power would promote political stability and national security.
Once that being established, the economic prosperity is inevitable.
The skepticism by Sami Shorsh, the head of the Kurdistan alliance List, regarding the Kurdish rights at the national front is reasonable, based on the isolation.
At the same time, the Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani emphasis on the Kurdish unity in national issues is prudent. For it would expedite the regional progress and reduce the state’s economic burden through solidarity.
The Shiite and Secular outreach to the Sunni representatives in the formation of the new government is paramount.
It would unequivocally settle the storm that has wreaked havoc in Iraq until today.
Obviously, the people of Iraq could no longer endure the agony and grief in the mass burials that has become the fact of life.
No race or society should be subject to the systemic elimination of the generation anymore.
The leaders in the majority and the minority party across Iraq are urged to put their differences aside and acknowledge one another as an Iraqi first by prioritizing the national development.
It’s obligatory on them to revive Mesopotamia’s once sophisticated civilization.
The people have the responsibility to confirm the new coalition government pledged to united Iraq and committed in their service to all citizens.
Secular Shiite leader, Ayad Allawi adequately satisfies the requirement and the coalition under his leadership is far more realistic and promising.
Iraq war and the continuous violence have erased the possibility of hope among the victims.
It’s time to honor those who lost their precious lives by blessing the living with a functional democracy.
On that optimistic note, Good Luck! To the people of Iraq awaiting,
The dawn of new era with long lasting peace and glory in abundance.
Thank you.

U.K. Elections and the Political Dilemma
May 10, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The last week General Election results in the United Kingdom generated political confusion.
With the conservatives aka the Tory Right led by the leader, David Cameron as the front runner and the incumbent Labor Prime Minister Gordon Brown trailing behind, the liberal democrats’ leader Nick Clegg is the ‘kingmaker,’ in the hung Parliament.
In the absence of a clear majority, the political parties are attempting unconventional alliances to form a government raising anxiety among the observers at the domestic and international front.
According to the reports, the Tory Right members are advising their leader David Cameron to function as the minority government daring the opposition majority in the Parliamentary affairs.
Unfortunately, it’s an ill advice for the majority could render the minority redundant in the legislative voting process and turn the tide against them in the next possible election.
The conservative leader, David Cameron’s approach to seek liberal democrats coordination is better in resolving the political dilemma.
Moreover, in politics, the public trust and patience is like a flickering candle light particularly in the backdrop of political scandals, high unemployment, and housing market crisis.
Political stability is crucial for economic recovery, national security and the future.
The conservative party and the liberal democrats’ merger characterized as the ‘odd couple,’ are trying to reach a workable agreement on major issues.
Recent discussions held between the two political factions appear promising.
However, the electorate would prefer the talks delivered in actions.
Since the liberal democrats are urging on the electoral reform to increase the marginal winners leverage in the Parliament and during political negotiations,
The conservatives reluctance to accommodate the liberal democrats’ valid proposal could diminish the prospects for a viable coalition.
If the liberal democrats step away from the much-anticipated electoral reform,
It might jeopardize the momentum considering their victory was way below the expectations despite the leader, Nick Clegg’s popularity in the political debate.
Further, the supporters’ confidence in the leadership could potentially dwindle for not remaining firm in the political bargain.
Similarly, the conservatives artful maneuvering on this issue might backfire projecting them to be domineering and unreliable even while being dependent upon the liberal democrats for majority rule or in the legislation.
All of this would exacerbate the electorates anti-government sentiments producing more of the same electoral outcome in the forthcoming elections.
Therefore, the ideal political settlement would be to minimize the risks of losing the liberal democrats cooperation on issues relevant to their base.
Sharing a macro vision on the economy, deficit reduction, bank regulations, foreign policy, social issues and environment are quintessential to reaffirm the solidarity in the unique political mandate.
The U.K. economic situation could greatly improve with the immediate financial sector regulations and demonstrating fiscal responsibility through deficit reduction programs.
Auditing defense spending and eliminating wasteful expenditures is the beginning of the end to national deficit.
Reallocating and reconciling Social services funding to identify excess and shortfall is prudent.
Job market review and curbing housing market decline are the immediate priorities in the global recession.
Providing tax incentives to the corporations, small business and Retail industry for hiring and retaining jobs would stimulate the economy via consumer spending.
The tax breaks on applicable sources to corporations and other industries for job creation would generate tax revenue from the employees personal income tax, business payroll tax and consumer sales tax.
Housing market could be revived by containing foreclosures and enforcing rules through bank regulations to reassess the loan status on individual basis,
Apart from resuming credit facilities to revive qualified mortgage financing and business borrowing.
Upon adopting appropriate measures, the United Kingdom could emerge from the political and economic strife.
Congratulations! To the winners of the various political parties and,
Good Luck! To the leaders on the political decision to serve the people in the United Kingdom.
Thank you.

The Political Game
May 8, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Politics is universally known for facts subversion.
Any fair perspective on national issues and campaign promise reminders are perceived as unconventional and thwarted with false accusations.
There were assaults regarding the concerns raised on the past and pending legislation.
It’s important to dispel the myths surrounding the open communication to the authorities in power through this website.
Since the 2008 Presidential campaign and up until now, the communication channel allows the authorities in power to submit their various demands to me but prohibits my response to them.
My communication to them is possible only via the website.
I’ve never had direct communication access during the election campaign and it continues to date.
Information sent earlier has been either rejected or redirected to ‘Auto response.’
As such, every communication sent and received by me has been published on this website periodically.
Upon being approached by the authority in power on several occasions lately with the routine message:
‘Stand up to Fear and Hate,’ against the Republican opponents and donate minimum $450 towards the election campaign,
The position was clarified in the blogpost titled ‘Reconciliation for a new beginning’
Not surprisingly, it was retorted by the authority through the talking heads.
The remarks varied ranging from the alleged pitch, uneven playing field, intimidation, improper delegation and ill preparation of the staff…
Never mind the ordeal endured by me in the recent ‘character assassination, serious death threats, 24/7 surveillance enabling attacks via the national and international outlets,’ –
The irony of ‘Fear and Hate,’ in this context cannot be ignored.
Computer and telephones are vulnerable to illegal spying aided by on-line sources in addition to the agencies.
Moreover, the unconstitutional monitoring by the notorious organization implicated for turning in the pro-democracy dissidents’ personal emails to the Beijing authorities is the tip of the iceberg.
Their profit-oriented action had rendered the courageous political activists’ life imprisoned, not to mention the billions deprived of freedom.
One would think this would be the random conduct of this particular corporation, but it doesn’t appear to be so as their activity is widespread in democratic systems as well.
Privacy is a misnomer for those standing up to the power and exposing the truth to revive democracy.
Truth finders are not entitled to the first amendment or the right to defend themselves against power abuse.
The victim is barred from sharing the experiences, otherwise characterized as ‘rants, wailing and even inflammatory by the extreme sources.
In case the authority and their ardent supporters/attackers were unaware of it, then they ought to be in a parallel universe.
Democracy is best served with the critics’ investing their talent and resources to investigate the closed chamber deals carried out prior to legislation rather than targeting the unprecedented transparency displayed on this website thus far.
With respect to the level playing field – it’s forgotten by the authority’s defenders that –
In order to publish the articles on this website for national and global service to humanity –
There are no speechwriters, Teleprompters, news briefing, consultants, confidantes, czars, any aide or a task force dedicated to feed the selective news media the rebuttal in the form of distorted information.
Further, the service is not for profit and purely a humanitarian deed without costing the taxpayers or the federal and state authorities.
On the so-called “ill preparation of the staff leading to legislative failures,’ – poignantly,
Politics chooses one to be the authority when convenient and regards the same entity irrelevant in all circumstances.
Prominently scapegoating the individual engaged in the selfless crusade is the trend.
Political expediency is the norm and begins on the campaign trail to infinity.
Unlike the distracting voluminous bills, the details admittedly escaping the lawmakers’ attention and more often used by the Republican members as the contentious factor,
Every topic on this website – from finance reform, stimulus package, unemployment, environment, foreign policy…are elaborated and categorically stated to benefit the public, national and international interest.
Despite the numerous articles on Health care legislation clearly defining the requirements with visual presentations emphasizing the need for federal run program – Single Payer system or the Public option at the least – published on this website and in the congressional survey delivered via priority mail to the authorities,
The baseless allegation is the proof of the integrity crisis in the broken system.
It requires rationality to view that the instructions were always clear but the intentions among the executors were not there.
The “bipartisan” health care summit conspicuously excluded the elected officials seeking ‘Public Option,’ or ‘Single Payer System,’ while unsuccessful attempts were made to appease the conservatives on both sides.
Issuing the executive order to win the ‘anti-abortion’ Senate votes and,
Contrarily weakening the Medicare program in the absence of Single Payer or Public option for effective competition reveals the misplaced priority.
On the eve of the final health care vote, the leading authorities proudly declaring to the press that,
“The liberals and progressives quest for public option or medicare expansion has been muted.”
Evidently, the claim that the health care law is serving the deserving population under the private for profit health care to a tune of $35 trillion dollars over a decade with 34 million remaining uninsured until 2020 fit the political dogma prevailing over pragmatism.
Similarly, in the face of the reality on the oil spill in the gulf coast, maintaining the offshore drilling decision instead of its reversal confirms defiance.
Power comes with many privileges and in politics governed by profits, the truth is the regular casualty.
The only hope for democracy’s survival is the people’s discernment in electing the candidacy pledged to serve the nation and not the special interests agenda.
It’s essential to verify the incumbents’ voting record and the actual beneficiaries from it in the assessment.
Campaign finance reform could be achieved by merely rejecting the corporate representatives and electing the public financed candidates vowed to national and environmental protection.
Democracy has been privatized by seeking public votes and the consequences are voting abstinence balanced with pro-special interest votes during legislation.
At present, the special interests controlled political system is configured to favor the respective industry resisting regulations and recommendations for a viable economy, besides planet sustenance.
History is testimony to ‘Change’ brought upon by ordinary citizens’ with extraordinary commitment to the long cherished democracy that guarantees economic opportunities, equal rights, safe environment and eternal peace.
People have the ultimate power as consumers, taxpayers and voters in a democracy.
Thank you.

Reconciliation for a New Beginning
May 5, 2010
Honorable. President Barack Obama
Dear Mr. President,
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the position for a new beginning.
With deep appreciation for democracy, free speech and ethics, I reiterate the facts presented on this website.
I remain steadfast in my commitment to work for the people and serve our great country as well as the citizens across the globe.
Since my responsibilities are towards humanitarian peace and progress, besides environmental protection, I pledge unequivocal support to promote the daunting, yet noble cause in every aspect.
I do not have any doubts in reaching the milestones by working together with a common goal in the domestic and international matter.
However, I’m disappointed with the special interests’ control over the hard fought legislation against the democratic principles and consequently,
The electorate deprived of immediate and long lasting benefits.
Although, the trend is no revelation, there were tremendous expectations from the ‘Hope and Change’ promise made by your candidacy on the campaign trail.
Again, some argue that campaign promises are not always deliverable and, they define the default as the political norm.
That being the case, the voter frustration with any political party or candidate for the trust violation is justified.
Notwithstanding, the challenges originating from the misrepresentations during elections.
The consistent voting abstinence from the Republican members in Congress is visibly the sworn allegiance to various interests guiding the legislative process.
It is true that the health care legislation was a courageous step in Presidential history.
Nevertheless, the reform needs to be meaningful and,
I understand that you are in agreement with the health care bill lacking in serious competition without the federal programs for the vast majority.
Not surprisingly, the health care and insurance companies like their counterparts in other sectors welcome the federal funding and bailouts to facilitate their prosperity,
But, they are resilient to federal regulations and recommendations such as the Single Payer system.
It’s an uphill battle with every legislation because of the special interests’ investments in lobbying.
It could be easily overcome, if the candidates running for office decline the corporate financing and instead rely upon their ability in winning the public confidence by honoring the constitutional oath to serve the nation.
Now is the time to reverse the corporate dominance in legislation to favor the public interest.
The long held tradition has bankrupted the economy with multitrillion-dollar deficits and betrayed consumer rights.
Free market resistance to regulations through overindulgence in a democratic political system has backfired leading the economy to an abyss.
It cannot possibly continue forever. It’s unsustainable and evidenced in the domestic and global economy.
That’s why there was enormous faith in your Presidency to ‘Change’ the course and liberate the government from privatized status.
It’s never too late to act for better results and sometimes one has to strive hard to achieve the targets.
I believe that ‘Change,’ is necessary and extend my relentless cooperation to your administration and the elected officials on both sides of the political aisle provided the policies be implemented to protect the Main Street interest and the environment.
They are:
Campaign finance reform – barring corporate donations and eliminating loopholes towards campaign contributions,
Adherence to transparency and accountability in national and international affairs,
Medicare expansion via Single Payer system to contain costs and save life either through amendment or annexure by reallocating federal funding from the private health care.
Tough financial measures to prevent economic meltdown,
Job creation by reviving the manufacturing sector and boosting the small business/Retail industry –
The tax credits to the corporations and small businesses for hiring and retaining employees is praiseworthy.
Fiscal responsibility – National deficit reduction by enforcing the– “Waste not and Want not” ethic – beginning with defense budget spending is paramount.
Nuclear weapons eradication – Your efforts to gain international consensus is progressive and perhaps, persistence will yield the desirable outcome.
Environment by adopting clean renewable energy, which means abandoning offshore drilling, uranium and coal mining,
Maintaining K-12 and higher education funding as a prudent investment for a bright future – Federal funding has been impressive unlike certain states’ with misplaced priorities.
Social justice such as gay rights and fair immigration laws,
Similar approach in resolving international conflicts, establishment of peace and freedom for oppressed population –
Comprise the basic requirements.
Power is powerful when used to empower the powerless in the society and that being –
Secure jobs, 24/7 health care access, good education, safe environment and eternal peace.
I am optimistic that together we can accomplish the highlighted goals and proceed in a positive direction.
I look forward to working with you in all these issues and dedicate my service to humanity.
Sincerely,
Padmini Arhant
Environment – The Green Revolution
May 3, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The two major disasters in the energy fields viz. the West Virginia coal mine explosion killing at least 25 miners and the gulf oil spill with 11 workers presumed dead is a great tragedy for the victims’ family,
Notwithstanding the catastrophic impact on the environment along with the economic costs involved in rescue operation of the species and the cleaning required in protecting life and livelihood.
As stated earlier through numerous environment articles on this website, no matter how vigorously the energy independence is debated claiming the “offshore drilling,” “clean coal technology,” and “nuclear power,” as the reliable energy resources,
The inherent danger to the workforce and the habitat from these sources cannot be underestimated for it is repeatedly proved through these horrific mishaps.
The catchphrase – ‘Drill baby drill,’ ‘drill now – offshore,’ and every other area with liquid gold, regardless of the consequences is the myopic view driving the global energy quest endangering life on planet.
Already the several accidents in the related sectors have been responsible for the irreversible outcome producing loss of human life and rare species extinction.
In addition, it has created huge environmental hazards as well as economic liabilities that are shared nationally.
Although, the general awareness to these issues are much better today than earlier, when important event like ‘Earth Day,’ and treaty such as ‘Kyoto Protocol,’ could not convince the leading polluters to acknowledge the devastations on the habitat.
At the same time, Global warming still remains contentious and discarded as a ‘myth,’ despite the extreme weather conditions causing famine, floods, tsunami, typhoon, tornadoes exacerbated by frequent earthquakes etc.,
The COP15 Copenhagen summit attended by 192 countries and more failed to arrive at a consensus due to politics prevailing over pragmatism.
Unfortunately, the lack of cooperation during the unique gathering is a lost opportunity with serious ramifications on all, but suffered most by the vulnerable regions in the world.
However, the 2010 U.N. climate conference in Mexico City is yet another occasion for the international community to make a firm commitment and diligently implement the universal climate policy in an effort to reverse the environmental degradation.
Meanwhile, every nation is indebted to the future generation in saving the habitat by passing the effective climate change legislations sooner than later to prevent different adversities.
In terms of renewable energy, it’s time to embrace the risk free solar, wind, hydro projects in conjunction with bio-fuels as the preferred power suppliers.
The recent ‘Cape Wind Project’ – Approved “to build the first offshore wind farm in the United States off the coast of Massachusetts in Nantucket Sound,” is a fabulous beginning to the safe and clean energy endeavor.
Likewise, the other options using the pure natural elements are the gateway to promoting energy diversity, while considering measures for energy conservation and economic viability.
Understandably, the United States has a tough battle in the climate bill legislation with the energy behemoths’ investments in lobbying to maintain the status quo irrespective of the periodical deadly incidents.
Unless the energy companies recognize the urgent need to pursue the common goal in carbon reduction and pioneer technology using solar, wind, hydrothermal, bio-fuels…the climate bill comprising the offshore drilling, coal and uranium mining would continue to offset the targets in containing the greenhouse gas emission.
Self-sufficiency in energy is not necessarily derived from oil and mine explorations. On the contrary, the cost/benefit ratio proves otherwise.
The energy industry is in denial if the latest casualties in the coalmine explosion and oil spilling, the health problems from harmful uranium exposure were not accepted as the activities detrimental to life, environment and the economy.
Similar occurrences in Nigeria, China and Chernobyl nuclear meltdown are few other examples that confirm the reality when seeking the energy alternatives.
Increasing energy demand from the developing nations – Brazil, India and China have generated the surge in fossil fuel and uranium enrichment, although these emerging economies are simultaneously engaged in the solar, wind, biodiesel and hydrothermal energy.
China has achieved prominence in environmental programs, besides importing coal from Australia, oil through dealings with Iran and Sudan, natural gas from Burma to supplement the domestic fossil fuel deficiency.
Perhaps, they could be the model in the twenty first century by adopting the absolute clean energy rather than the hybrid choice that allows for the fossil fuel and nuclear power procurement.
Global initiative to preserve the environment is encouraging.
Nevertheless, the concept of recycling and energy saving techniques is not widespread to realize the gains.
Farming and Agriculture – Genetically modified produces are more available and lot cheaper than the organic food grown with natural fertilizers.
Healthy meals are costlier than the high caloric, cholesterol rich and fatty food items.

Popular demand for Universal Health care – Single Payer System
April 29, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The special interests representing the insurance and the health care industry successfully thwarted the consumer demand for Single Payer System with aggressive lobbying and campaign.
It’s not hard to figure out the reason behind industry opposition to Single Payer system.
Single Payer system is the guaranteed health care for all citizens regardless of personal health and economic status.
With the 24/7 access across the nation, it effectively addresses the opponent’s claims against the ‘Universal Medicare.’
Issues such as waiting period and subsidized quality are eliminated with the promotion of Medicare payments and not cuts to the hospitals and the professionals across the health care spectrum.
Similar to the social security number assigned to every legal resident, the Medicare expansion with a standard Medicare card for 24/7 access at any medical facility is long overdue in the only industrialized nation restricting the provision.
Medicare is an established system in the United States.
Other federal programs that are operating in conjunction with Medicare are highly beneficial to the segments receiving the government administered health care service.
Programs such as Medicaid, CHIP, VA, COBRA along with Medicare are the salvation for the ailing and the unaffordable groups in the society.
Since these services are available only to specific segments, the vast majority are forced to endure the abusive conditions in the private insurance and health care industry.
Consolidation of the current federal programs into a ‘Single Payer system,’ would not only provide universal coverage in real terms but also contain the astronomical costs incurred by the taxpayers in the exclusively privatized national health care.
The irony in a democracy is, the people are expected to cast their votes to their representatives and they are forbidden from seeking the basic human rights like the national health care for their contributions through exorbitant premiums and tax dollars.
Contrarily, the campaigns funded by the relevant industries ensure they more than recover their investment in each candidacy from the local to the highest office on the land.
Otherwise, democracy is up for sale during the elections.
The largest donation recipient usually emerges the victor, and then onwards,
The campaign financiers control the legislative process, leaving the electorate with the actual power, a mere formality.
Citizens’ consciousness to the democracy abduction is devoid of vigor and often distracted by the corporate owned media and other outlets, ever dedicated to spin the facts into the concocted theory in obeisance to the sponsors.
When politics is governed by profit management, the democracy’s voice is silenced with massive propaganda and shenanigans.
As a result, the truth and the public trust are casualties in the so-called free and fair elections and the governance supposedly pledged to transparency and accountability.
Speaking against injustice by itself declared as injustice and condemned in the highest order.
Again, the condemnation varies with the target’s background.
The health care is a classic example where the public plight is subject to the industry and their representatives’ acknowledgment or the lack thereof evidenced in the health care legislation costing in excess of $35 trillion for the period 2010 – 2019 and,
Yet the estimated 34 million remain uninsured until such time.
In addition, the mandatory insurance purchase from the private sector expected to generate revenue in penalties through default by the 4 million struggling households.
Essentially, the electorate granting power through the ballots is rendered powerless in a democracy defined as the government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Changes do not occur voluntarily.
Throughout history, the grass roots movement has been responsible for the paradigm shift in politics, economic and social environment.
Their activism and relentless support has been instrumental in promoting economic and social justice, particularly political freedom in different parts of the world.
Sometimes human apathy is directly related to ‘individualism.’
Personal experience triggers instant reaction than passive exposure.
Health care bill like the other legislations, severely affects every citizen as a subscriber and a taxpayer.
Complacent to the recent legislation by denouncing the factual presentation is oxymoron, notwithstanding narcissism.
Standing with the power is an easier option and commonly displayed in the absence of courage.
Failure to amend the health care bill is declining the popular demand for ‘Universal Medicare,’ through Single Payer system –
The honorable and the best health care policy to end the population misery.
Denial eventually leads to cataclysmic outcome and in the health care matter,
It’s a choice between saving life and adhering to the political convention.
Citizens’ need compromised in the health care bill is a travesty and the inaction to reverse the course reveals the Washington reality.
People must come together and share their passion to restore democracy conspicuously lost in the special interests’ dominant legislative affairs, poignantly the health care reform.
Remember, the health care debacle is like the wildfire known for ravaging the entire habitat.
Reluctance to modify the health care legislation to ‘Universal Medicare with 24/7 access’ is an invitation to a colossal political defeat in the midterm elections.
Rationality never betrays at the crossroads of decision-making.
Thank you.

Health Care Scandal – Apocalyptic Forecast
April 28, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Despite the candid presentation with facts and figures on the scandalous ‘Health Care reform,’ the issue is evaded with nonsensical representations by sources benefiting from the monumental fraud.
Perhaps, the notion among the authorities is the public have to be content with the policy that is unequivocally detrimental to the citizens interest, regardless of this being a life and death matter and,
Ignore the apocalyptic event arising from it – particularly with respect to,
The cost/value determination showing a significant rise in national deficit at $35 trillion for the period 2010-2019, without the much-acclaimed insurance coverage for the 34 million uninsured.
Details made available in the articles:
Health Care Reform – A National Scam – April 25, 2010.
Health Care Reform – Facts and Flaws – April 23, 2010,
Health Care Legislation Amendment – April 22, 2010 and
Thorough analysis of the components reveals the legislation is industry favored with the vulnerable population subject to predatory practices, otherwise the status quo extension granting exclusive rights to the private sector with an utter disregard for the public health and national debt.
Rejecting the legislation amendment call is a dangerous precedence in a democracy not to mention the constitutional breach, the latest trend in the abuse of power.
There is more chilling evidence that beckons unanimous action on the national debt.
According to the Washington Post article – April 27, 2010
Panel to meet on skyrocketing U.S. debt
If no action is taken, forecasters see fiscal crisis by decade’s end
By Lori Montgomery, Washington Post – Thank you.
Washington – A presidential commission will convene today at the White House to address what leaders of both parties agree is one of the greatest threats to the country’s economic future:
“The rising national debt.”
Official forecasts suggest that without sharp changes in federal spending or tax collections, the United States could enter into a downward spiral of indebtedness that by the end of this decade would erode the country’s ability to educate its children, care for the elderly or mount a robust national defense.
Republicans and Democrats alike say the fiscal challenges have been too long ignored.
But with the two parties feuding over health care reform, Wall Street regulation and a host of other issues – and the economy still uncertain after a deep recession – there is considerable doubt that they could join hands to fend off a still distant potential crisis.
“It would take a miracle,” agreed Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin, D-Ill.
But “I believe in miracles.”
Durbin is the highest-ranking lawmaker among a dozen members of Congress on the commission, which also includes six presidential appointees.
The panel has until Dec. 1 to devise a plan to stop a federal borrowing binge that exploded during the recent recession and will only get worse as retiring baby boomers tap into federal retirement programs.
The gulf between the two parties is vast.
No budget commission has managed to spur action since 1983.
And a host of interest groups is lining up to rally the public against any solution that involves higher taxes or cuts to favored programs – particularly Social Security, which members of both parties consider the ripest target for compromise.
Even supporters of the commission are not optimistic:
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md, a vocal advocate, said the most he expects is,
“A good message with regard to the magnitude of the problem.”
But panel members from both parties say the experience of Greece, deeply in debt and begging other countries to help pay its bills, provides a vivid incentive to set aside ideological differences and work together.
“After stopping a terrorist with a weapon of mass destruction, this is the single most important issue we confront as a nation,”
Said Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., a commission member.
That crisis seemed distant until the recession hit, causing tax collections to tank and federal spending to increase as policymakers scrambled to avert an economic collapse.
The public debt is forecast to rise from less than 40 percent of the economy to more than 60 percent by the end of this year, its highest level since 1952.
The debt will hit 90 percent by 2020 under President Obama’s budget, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, a level last seen in the aftermath of World War II.”

Grim Reality – By Padmini Arhant
It’s clear from the above WP article and the health care legislation costing $35 trillion for the decade 2010 -2019 under the private for profit health care with 34 million uninsured until 2020,
The United States fiscal crisis is a looming national and global financial disaster.
Failure to amend the health care legislation is a kamikaze action on behalf of those in power unwilling to acknowledge the inevitable catastrophe under the guise of health care reform.
U.S. Chamber of Commerce not surprisingly, considers the public option or the Universal Medicare disruptive in their televised forum on April 26, 2010.
Not long ago, their key representative proudly claimed to have influenced the Supreme Court decision in the ‘Citizens united vs. Federal Election Commission.’
With the cosmetic measures in the health care bill, the legislation is essentially a jackpot for the insurance industry due to the mandatory insurance purchase through federal aid and the regulation lapse extending beyond the decade.
Legislations espousing special interests’ agenda is not a revelation.
However, the ‘Hope and Change,’ campaign pledge was meant to transcend the culture in Washington through transparency and accountability, a misnomer at the political helm.
Continuation on this path projects the dismal economic conditions for the United States, similar to Greece forced to rely on external rescue for solvency.
There is an exception to the United States situation.
Unlike Greece, the United States shares the ‘Too big to fail,’ status and the major creditor China would be susceptible to the precipitous fall,
Notwithstanding the clichéd ramifications on the world financial markets.
CBO’s proclamation on the U.S. debt expected to hit 90 percent by 2020 under the current administration’s budget is not merely a national affair but an international calamity, seeking universal attention.
United States borrowings absorbing 90 percent of the national GDP with revenue on the decline and increase in federal spending is unsustainable.
The economic collapse that was averted in 2009 is effectively created through irresponsible legislations viz. the health care bill designed to escalate the national deficit.
National health care legislation was absolutely necessary to save lives starting immediately.
But not to promote the prospects for the flourishing insurance and the health care industry.
Medicare for all citizens with 24/7 access alongside the private insurance for the high end market as elaborated in the article Universal Medicare – Single Payer System, April 8, 2010, on this website is the ideal and the only viable solution to national health care apart from containing the national debt.
Since Medicare is already established, the cost control and the Medicare expansion to all citizens is no longer a request but a requirement.
Why would the authority in Power lead the nation to the ‘Death Valley’ and refuse to provide valid explanation on this bizarre decision that has been made into law?
Citizens’ disapproval and peaceful (non-violent) protest against the industry favored, private for profit health care is the only hope for democracy to survive.
As for those defending the health care bill and defying the burgeoning national debt from it are in denial.
Remaining complacent to the private for profit health care law at $35 trillion dollars in the absence of universal coverage is a huge burden on the baby boomers and the future taxpayers.
Perhaps, the self-realization that their tax dollars are transformed into the industry’s extravagant bonuses in the ‘business as usual’ environment could change their position and prompt them to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
National debt and valuable health care are inter-related and the health care law exacerbates both issues through preference for profit and politics over people.
The citizens action demanding ‘Universal Medicare’ with 24/7 access by health care bill amendment is imperative to protect life and the democratic system.
It’s incumbent upon the administration to do the needful for the nation or step down graciously.
Democracy is alive when the government of the people stands by the people and delivers for the people.
Thank you.

Health Care Reform – A National Scam
April 25, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The revelations on the Health care legislation published via articles ‘Health Care Legislation Amendment,’ dated April 22, 2010 and ‘Health Care Reform – Facts and Flaws,’ April 23, 2010, based on the facts is a serious national crisis that cannot be slighted for political or personal ideology.
Legislation that is designed to favor the industry with dire consequences for the citizens, desperately relying on immediate relief from the abominable insurance and health care industry abuse have been defrauded under the guise of reform.
A thorough analysis of health care components on this website along with contributions from neutral economic experts, Medicare Office of the Actuary, Congressional Budget Office, Department of Health and Human Services unequivocally confirm the legislations’ serious implications on millions of lives and the national deficit at $35 trillion from 2010 to 2019.
The health care law in 2014, with mandatory insurance purchase from the private for profit health insurance industry, targets the struggling average Americans and the corporations with penalties for failing to enroll in the system.
However, the requirement on the insurance industry to accept patients with pre-existing illnesses has no similar conditions.
The cost-benefit determination for the decade – 2010-2019 and beyond is disproportionately alarming due to the essential national health care service exclusively privatized and exacerbated with compulsory insurance on federal funding via tax credits to middle and low-income families.
Federal funding to the economically disadvantaged population is necessary.
Unfortunately, the funding is also the means to facilitate private insurance purchase at the industry’s discretionary price conveniently subject to market rates and the costs burden related to health plan taxes, fees etc., factored in as the government’s revenue ultimately transferred back to the federal source through aid recipients and taxpayers.
The report found that “the overhaul will increase national health care spending by $311 billion from 2010 – 2019, or nine-tenths of 1 percent.
To put that in perspective, total health care spending during the decade is estimated to surpass $35 trillion.”
In other aspects, the Medicare cuts are lethal to the seniors gravely concerned about the health care law with the following review:
“The longer-term viability of the Medicare reductions is doubtful.
Assessment flagged the Medicare cuts to hospitals, nursing homes and other providers as potentially unsustainable.
Further, it projected that reductions in payments to private Medicare Advantage plans would trigger an exodus from the popular program.
Enrollment would plummet by about 50 percent, as the plans reduce extra benefits that they currently offer.”
Instead of providing the Universal Medicare with 24/7 access across the nation, the so-called reform is geared in the reverse direction and clearly aimed at weakening Medicare system that is appreciated by the beneficiaries and the legislators on both sides of the aisle.
Again, the Universal Medicare – Single Payer system is affordable and the only permanent solution to the burgeoning health care crisis and national spending.
The expenditure to exceed $35trillion through private for profit health care leaving millions penalized for possible default on insurance subscription and the 34 million Americans expected to wait until 2020 for coverage is not a reform.
It is a direct assault on the vulnerable and ailing population,
For whom the legislation was initiated.
Those who pretend to be tone deaf reflect callousness on this issue for they think it would not affect them.
Apart from narcissism, the attitude is a potential threat to democracy.
As for some advocating to ignore the call, it reveals their priority in promoting self-interest through cronyism, the catalyst to the broken political system that replaces national interest with special interest needs.
The ramifications on silence in the national issue inevitably impact every citizen regardless of political allegiance.
Even the A-political consumers and taxpayers are not spared in the massive health care scam.
Complicity in the widely acknowledged defective national health care legislation is a dangerous setback for democracy.
Anyone who considers this issue to be isolated ought to be in a parallel universe, for it’s the tip of the iceberg with more legislations of this kind – whether financial, energy, climate bills…replicating the pattern.
Despite the grim facts endangering life and the dismal national deficit forecasts,
The White House response to move ahead on other issues for political expediency is deeply regrettable and demonstrates the lack of respect for the citizens’ well being in the national health care law.
Congress is the republic’s true representatives and,
I extend my support to the lawmakers willing to come forward to amend the health care legislation to conform to the reality and that being:
Universal Medicare for all citizens with 24/7 access – Single Payer System and,
It would be funded within the allocated revenue sources to contain the phenomenal health care spending.
I’m prepared to work with them from the public domain to protect the citizens’ interest.
I guarantee every lawmaker that this unique step on their part would be highly rewarding for them in the midterm elections, seemingly challenging around that time.
If the legislations were proved detrimental to the citizens’ welfare and progress as established in the national health care law and there is reluctance to amend the bill,
Then such act is unconstitutional and regarded as treason.
Health care is a life and death matter.
Existing Medicare expansion for all is the only effective policy to deal with the national coverage and escalating deficit.
Legislators and the Executive branch opposed to this amendment owe legitimate explanation to the American electorate in public.
I hope the lawmakers will be guided by their constitutional oath to serve the nation and safeguard the public interest by amending the bill to “Universal Medicare,” commencing immediately, not in a future date.
Thank you.
