Global Security – Nuclear Disarmament Without Exception

August 6, 2013

By Padmini Arhant

The White House issued statement prior to G-8 summit in Northern Ireland on June 17, 2013 that President Barack Obama is scheduled to address U.S. nuclear weapons reduction by third and negotiate with counterpart Russia for similar contraction.

President Barack Obama in his Berlin speech on June 19, 2013 expressed desire to downsize nuclear arsenals and minimize tactical weapons in Europe held on United States behalf through NATO alliance.

Furthermore, United States and Russia signed Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) calls for limiting nuclear warheads to 1550 by the year 2018.

Meanwhile, Washington continues to strengthen strategic nuclear weapons capability ranging from interception to various offensive interventions.

The Obama administration 2014 budget proposal targeting nuclear non-proliferation programs with drastic cuts at 20 percent i.e. $460 million below the existing $2.45 billion and,

In juxtapose reallocating the fund towards nuclear surge by 7 percent or $500 million above the prevalent $7.227 billion to be expended in weapons modernization and uranium enrichment for nuclear warheads in a new facility contributes to nuclear arms race increasing volatility in the war fatigued surrounding.

Notwithstanding White House misplaced priorities during gloomy economic climate exacerbating American families plight.

Washington’s paradoxical paradigm detouring from defusing nuclear proliferation to profuse production necessitates Russia and other nuclear states to consider comparable preparation.

The subcritical nuclear test on plutonium shock absorbency to chemical explosives titled Pollux conducted in Nevada desert in December 2012 is direct contradiction to United States and western policy on nuclear testing traditionally used as premise to impose economic sanctions against nations like North Korea and earlier on India and Pakistan accused of enhancing nuclear status.

In fact, United States generous funding towards nuclear warheads development and advancement has spiked recently in the last four years while demanding other nuclear states to refrain from such accumulation and expansion.

United States incumbent administration pivot to Asia doctrine aimed at provocation demonstrated in Korean peninsula with redeployment of 23rd Chemical battalion used in biological warfare amid flying B-52 and B-2 nuclear capable bombers during military drill with South Korea represent aggressive tactics displaying weapons of mass destruction in possession.

The Pentagon report on United States nuclear strategy stated to maintain nuclear capable bombers, ballistic missile submarines and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) in addition to ongoing annual investments estimated at $31 billion in sustaining nuclear stockpile and infrastructure.

Above all the grim reality on nuclear arms attributed to five major nuclear nations – United States, Britain, France, Russia and China.

These countries as United Nations Security Council (UNSC) permanent members with veto power evidently accelerate nuclear weapons program rather than deterrence.

Their decision to upgrade nuclear inventory quality and quantity in the absence of accountability for violation of international standards and protocol that otherwise apply to several nuclear and non-nuclear members in the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) serve as the reason for nuclear states India, Pakistan and North Korea non-participation in NPT.

According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) assessment on contemporary nuclear status published in June 2013,

The five prominent nuclear states – United States, Britain, France, Russia and China are engaged in improving nuclear weapons delivery systems and techniques with arrangement to own nuclear arsenals indefinitely.

SIPRI data claims that United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, India, Pakistan and Israel approximately have 4,400 operational nuclear weapons and the combined total of these nations nuclear warheads is a staggering 17, 300 in early 2013.

In specific reference to Israel – The non signatory to NPT having declined inspections remain in non-compliance of existing rules and regulations despite holding 200 to 400 nuclear warheads with 80 intact nuclear weapons comprising 50 Jericho II medium-range ballistic missiles and 30 gravity bombs at disposal.

Israel also positioned in non-strategic weapons, not excluding artillery shells and atomic demolition munitions per SIPRI.

United States nuclear stock held in safekeeping with NATO allies viz. Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Turkey to name a few and simultaneously in Asia Pacific the nuclear consignment in South Korea and Japan essentially qualifies these nations as nuclear states as well.

Yet another dimension to nuclear dilemma is nuclear energy pursued as alternative source to fossil fuel that creates controversy regarding uranium enrichment and classifications to prevent weapons manufacturing due to precedence in the course considered routine in elevation from preliminary process to productivity.

Not to mention the contentious nuclear waste management and radioactive material leaks endangering environment as well as citizens lives with catastrophic impact experienced in Chernobyl and subsequently in Fukushima and lately in Hanford Site located on Columbia River in the state of Washington.

The hierarchy in nuclear empowerment asserting responsible vs. reckless category when those aligned in the former group notably behind humanitarian disaster in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq and now Syria evade responsibility.

These nuclear powers in their quest for geopolitical dominance escalate risks involved in potential nuclear attacks against any nation worldwide.

The solution to burgeoning nuclear crises is Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) in conjunction with Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty (FMCT) enforcement as the initial step towards universal commitment to nuclear disarmament.

Collective action along with independent monitoring committee on mandatory denuclearization without exception is a necessity for global peace and security.

History is testimony to foregone conclusion that nuclear armament benefits none and reliance on deadly dynamite would blind the world in entirety.

Wishing humanity success in the establishment of nuclear free planet.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Pakistan – Presidential Election

Congratulations! To President Mamnoon Hussain elected to represent Pakistan.

Pakistan’s democratic experience is not without trials and tribulations especially post election resulting in political factions dissatisfaction with electoral process.

Pakistan stability is linked with containing violence emanating from terror networks and anti-democratic forces funding Takfiri elements aimed at national and regional destabilization.

The leadership commitment in ending United States drone strikes producing civilian casualties would determine public trust on the incumbent power.

Upon eliminating militancy and extremism premised on fundamentalism, sectarian clashes and cross border terrorism could perhaps be laid to rest.

Pakistan uphill battles comprise combating corruption and recovery of national income held in overseas bank accounts through tax evasion.

Additionally, building economy to improve living conditions is not unique to Pakistan.

However, the political dynamics with foreign interference under the guise of military aid hinder economic revival.

Hopefully the current government headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain would introduce effective strategies to redress burgeoning violence restoring calmness and peace necessary to reach milestones in national goals.

Wishing Pakistan citizens and President Mamnoon Hussain dawn of peace and tranquility.

Iran – Presidential Inauguration

Iran – Congratulations! To President Hassan Rohani on the Presidential inauguration as 7th President of Iran.

Under the newly elected Presidency, the Iranian electorate choice for reformist candidacy over others is a mandate for moderation.

The voters’ aspirations to evolve and emerge from constraints and convictions are dependent on developments in the near future.

United States and EU unlawful sanctions exacerbates mainstream normal existence with access to medicines and other essentials restricted due to financial blockade disabling payments processing and transaction facility for free flow of trade in international market.

The unilateral western decisions lacking in fairness and legitimacy unnecessarily targets innocent victims across the nation.

Nonetheless, Iranian resolve in enduring arbitrary rule is evident in efforts exploring options to overcome crises.

Inflation and higher unemployment draw attention amongst various challenges in the economic front.

In other areas of governance, the common problems shared worldwide such as corruption and mismanagement in different branches of government pose impediments to real progress.

With hopes and expectations, the nation looks forward to fresh beginning and optimism in domestic and foreign relations minimizing tensions for positive outcome.

Best Wishes to people of Iran and President Hassan Rohani in addressing issues of the nation.

Zimbabwe – Presidential Electoral Dispute

The re-election of ruling party Zanu – PF governed by long serving President Robert Mugabe once again contested by opponent Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The contender declining to concede in the latest national polls could be resolved in independent re-assessment of voting mechanisms with appropriate measures to avoid prolonged disputes now and later.

Despite previous experience in 2008, the top electoral official resignation in disapproval of existing polling method and inconsistency reveals the election commission lack of coordination and preparation.

Had inherent flaws been identified earlier and addressed effectively, the status quo might be different and any disagreements may not be related to voting irregularity.

Nevertheless, leaderships vying for power seeking amicable settlements could save lives with mass support behind peaceful reconciliation.

Zimbabwe leaders rational approach in national interest could deliver viable solution.

Good Luck! To Zimbabwe electorate and leaderships in finalizing political victory via communication and dialogue rather than confrontation.

Peace to all

Thank you.

Egypt – Ending Violence And Restoring Stability Paramount To Resolve Political Crises

July 29, 2013

By Padmihi Arhant

The ongoing clashes between the supporters and opponents of former President Mohamed Morsi in Egypt having claimed 150 lives and left 5200 wounded so far is deeply regrettable and against national interest.

The latest incident on July 27th in Nasr city of Cairo involving pro Morsi sit-in members and other factions resulting in 72 civilian deaths is tragic considering aggressive altercations impairs sensibility and rationale endangering lives all around.

Egypt is a mature nation with rich cultural heritage and civilization.

There is urgency for citizens to comprehend that local and foreign instigated unrest weakens national ability to focus on burgeoning issues confronting the nation.

Muslim Brotherhood led by ex-President Mohamed Morsi efforts to reverse political outcome at the expense of naive demonstrators more likely unaware of motives behind persistence clarifies misplaced priority and quest to remain in power regardless of such insistence proved in national jeopardy.

Simultaneously, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) headed interim government initiatives to deal with protests would be effective in refraining from using any force or violent means that only exacerbates situation than otherwise.

Egypt revolution in 2011 accomplished general aspiration in removal of more than thirty years old authoritarianism and iron fist rule denying political rights, economic opportunity and social justice.

However, largely due to foreign power remaining in control over Egypt military and political establishment with United States $1.55 billion aid primarily for geopolitical dominance in the region,

Egypt independence struggle continues and could be gained in declining external interference through monetary and military assistance essentially facilitating western proxy governance to subjugate population.

Since Mubarak regime ouster in February 2011, United States directed administrations alternating between SCAF and Muslim Brotherhood or Islamist Salafi evidently not people choice representation with misuse of authority and failure to govern effectively by them.

Egypt like any other sovereign nation under foreign usurpation exercising self-determination rights in solidarity transcending barriers is the preliminary step towards liberation.

The current turmoil foments divisions among citizens despite similar experience in suffering and sharing same vision for republic rule.

Egyptians across the spectrum coming together in national spirit renouncing violence and pledging to resolve issues in harmony barring domestic and foreign elements counterproductive intrusion is the cornerstone for functioning and meaningful democracy.

Those who politicize events for personal and ideological advantage ignoring loss of lives and mislead the nation towards destruction violate public trust and do not represent national goals.

Egypt citizens seeking United States and other regional power like Saudi Arabia exit from national politics and defense management is critical in the freedom movement.

The consolidated action in changing governments at the national level with exterior sources retaining strong influence over whoever comes to power in the so-called democratically elected process is a losing battle and render martyred sacrifices in vain.

Having identified the root of the problems along with chief contributors and agents,

The people response is to forge national alliance rejecting anti-republic and anti-national infiltration from within or outside to move forward with republic governed political system.

Egypt mass has already demonstrated to this effect in January 2011 that delivered them victory with deposed Presidency of Hosni Mubarak and,

Subsequently the developments were maneuvered from powers abroad with regional collusion depriving Egyptian electorate the fundamental rights to self-governance in a democracy.

The immediate concern is to terminate bloodshed and restore security across the country.

When the nation is unduly subjected to political confrontations, the environment creates a perception of power vacuum and provides fodder for terrorism as witnessed in Sinai Peninsula spreading to the city square.

The caretaker government role is critical in adopting peaceful strategies such as delegating interior ministry to deploy peace corps rather than military personnel on the streets with a national forum organized to redress political grievances inviting diverse perspectives observing calmness and civility towards one another.

National defense forces commitment to citizens ‘safety and territorial integrity while being recipient of foreign military funding pose conflict of interests and undermine national sovereignty.

Egypt military solemn oath to defend the country intertwined with allegiance to foreign financiers of national institution stifle guaranteed protection.

Hence leaving behind such traditions that are contradictory to fulfilling sovereign duty would greatly improve defense command relations with newly elected civilian authority in the near future and beyond.

Notwithstanding the military transformation in this regard not only earn them national respect and confidence but also eliminate destabilization prospects from entities utilizing their investments for this purpose.

Likewise, the political organizations whether Muslim Brotherhood or al-Noor Salafi party espousing fragmentation and discord using religion as a platform subscribe to national foes agenda.

Besides imposition of Sharia law may be suitable to some even amongst majority but not necessarily to all in a society comprising other segments of different faith viz. Coptic Christians and alike.

The essence of democracy is civil liberty with choices for citizens devoid of state infringement.

The measure would generate tolerance and mutual understanding important to preserve national unity.

Muslim Brotherhood prolonging rallies apparently detrimental to their political survival and nation at large. The MB leaderships are urged to bring social disturbance to conclusion preventing further escalation of tension.

Egyptian discernment alongside promoting awareness in the region with limited access to information is the way forward in realizing common dreams for a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Wishing Egypt citizens unified strength for patriotism to overcome challenges with flying colors.

Peace to Egypt!

Peace to all

Thank you.

Palestine – Peace Negotiation Requirement Process

July 28, 2013

By Padmini Arhant

Israel initiated peace talks with Palestinian PLO leadership Mahmoud Abbas premised on Israel’s political referendum seeking Israeli citizens mandate exclusively determine Israel’s interest.

However, the other side viz. the native Palestinians including refugees forced to leave homeland as victims of prolonged occupation due representation is imperative for meaningful outcome.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cabinet decision to release Palestinian detainees is welcome and a positive step in humanitarian perspective.

Again the measure implemented in action with unconditional return of all inmates to their families is important for further discussion on other issues surrounding the nearly six and half decades old crises.

The illegal settlements in West Bank and al-Quds along with Israeli troop deployment in occupied territories being the bone of contention among diverse issues – the situation deserves immediate attention beginning with construction termination and IDF forces withdrawal from Palestinian land.

Similarly, in the coastal enclave Gaza – Israeli leadership lifting unilateral blockade since 2007 crippling Gaza economy and citizens survival is crucial for Gazans participation in the dialogue.

The idea of peace process requires strong foundation with removal of obstacles outlined above in addition to enabling Palestinian population the self-determination rights through comprehensive and inclusive contribution in the critical statehood matter.

Any efforts to circumvent main concerns and controversial territorial disputes could unnecessarily hinder reconciliation prospects in the long overdue peaceful settlement.

Israeli authorities desire for discourse demonstrated in redressing fundamental causes behind human rights violation and colonization denying Palestinians life with dignity is essential to move forward in direct engagement.

Considering previous involvements in deriving peaceful solution to Mideast problems derailed with contradictory response to agreements,

Palestinian apprehensions and mistrust in this context is understandable and legitimately shifts the burden of responsibility on Israel to meet with Palestinian people expectations and compliance of international law.

The endeavor would be fruitful upon Israel’s sincere commitment delivered in recognition of Palestinian independence and sovereign status eliminating Israeli control over Palestinian lives and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the key factor is to renounce obsolete strategies to gain advantage under false pretexts and instead adopting rational approach for greater good and common benefit is prudent to end the embattled matter.

Palestinian consent to peace deal is entirely dependent on the occupying power political will to honor Palestinian liberty without Israel’s rule in the beleaguered territory.

Israeli leaderships are urged to pursue constructive course in not only bringing the stalemate to conclusion but also for regional stability and security.

Wishing success in expeditious resolution of Palestinian freedom struggle.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Middle East – Peace Talks and Global Action on Status Quo

July 26, 2013

By Padmini Arhant

Politics exploits human suffering with contrasting strategies to crises in Syria and Palestine.

While international peace conference on Syria titled Geneva 2 confab evaded with no agreement on schedule until now,

The regular meetings held between United States and terror operatives’ representatives explore various options to escalate killings of unarmed civilians in Syria.

Israel, United States and Britain led terrorism in Syrian conflict with latest bombing in Jaramana city in Damascus that claimed at least 10 innocent lives and injured many must cease and universal demand on these three nations along with their coalition to end terror not only in Syria but also across the globe is a necessity to save humanity from incessant violence.

Geneva 2 talks apparently not a matter of interest for terror sponsors disregarding mounting death toll and devastation in the sovereign state.

Syria deserves international attention and cooperation in bringing the senseless invasion to conclusion without delay.

Global patience and lack of concrete measures in the western nations prominently United States and Israel decisions through EU and regional allies are responsible for massive casualties in Syria.

In juxtapose, the Palestinian peace talks pushed forward at Israel’s behest despite rejection from Palestinian population and democratically elected government Hamas in Gaza as well as political factions representing Palestinians in West Bank and East Jerusalem for the obvious outcome to further marginalize Palestinian citizenry.

The apprehensions amongst Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank and al-Quds is well founded and their unwillingness to negotiations with Israel is legitimately based on controversial illegal settlements in West Bank and East Jerusalem, unlawful detention of Palestinian civilians as young as five years old in Israeli prison and unilateral Israeli blockade on Gaza for the past seven years besides many other atrocities against the people in occupied Palestine.

The discussion on Palestine moving ahead not to benefit victims of oppression and persecution rather the occupier considering the core requirements on settlements freeze slighted with renewed construction and displacement activity.

Any reconciliation on Palestinian matter would be genuine unless and until Israeli authorities act on the impending issues:

1. Terminate contentious settlements in West Bank and al-Quds constituting colonization of the meager territory.

2. The unconditional immediate release of all Palestinian detainees in Israeli prison.

3. Lifting trade and financial embargo on Gaza and include people choice representation from entire Palestine unlike particular leadership of Israel and United States preference – critical for meaningful dialogue producing result oriented Palestinian experience.

Concurrently on Syria – United States and Britain electorate dissent on intervention in Syria is discarded as they were previously with Iraq and every other nation that has been attacked under false pretexts thus far.

The western powers dismissal of public opinion clarifies subversion of democracy with republic made irrelevant regardless of taxpayer funds wasted in waging wars and terrorizing children, women and men in foreign land.

Not to mention the drastic spending cuts in the form of austerity imposed on western countries taxpayers in return forcing many families into poverty and dependent on food stamps which is also being eliminated in order to finance wars in Afghanistan and unrest throughout Middle East.

The western leaderships reckless policies affects people not only in the target nations but also in their domain with millions on all sides paying the price for delusional aspiration of selective few in the self-proclaimed privileged club.

Western civil society unanimous response declining to pay taxes for political establishment misplaced priority calling on divestments of tax revenue in domestic economy instead of decimation of overseas nations would be effective in reversing the trend consuming lives world over.

Expecting shadow powers to change course not an eventuality especially when the agenda is premised on status quo continuation to suppress national and international uprising against fraudulent and inefficient governance.

People power reclaiming sovereignty and individual rights seized under intrusive national surveillance programs (NSA) is the preliminary step towards freedom and peaceful existence.

Wishing citizens of the world success in regaining liberty – the inalienable right to life with dignity.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Presentation – Politics Exploits Human Suffering

July 25, 2013

From: Padmini Arhant

Dear Friends and Citizens of the world,

You are invited to join the presentation on ‘Politics Exploits Human Suffering; scheduled in two hours from publication of this message.

Further, the session will include elaboration on friendly advice offered to members who consider peace seekers and truth speakers as rivals and sparing no opportunity to discredit their opponents.

Hence the word of caution to them is – ‘Choose your friends carefully and pick your enemies wisely in individual and common interest.’

In fact striving for friendly and cordial relations with all rather than enmity towards any is best suited in life. Again unfortunately those who are not inclined to peace and goodwill consider the latter better choice to assert their position. More on this will continue in the verbal discourse.

Your time and effort is appreciated.

Thank you.

India – Bihar Elementary School Tragedy

July 23, 2013

By Padmini Arhant

Heartfelt Condolences to young victims families in Masrakhi Village, Saran district in the northeastern state of Bihar.

The sad incident involving the deaths of 20 school children between the age of five and twelve from food poisoning in the free school lunch served as part of social welfare is deeply regrettable.

Obviously, the tragedy prompts quality control along with regular visits from food and health inspection team to deter repeat event.

Those behind the loss of innocent lives are burdened with guilt and suffering they have brought upon themselves with such injustice.

Conscience is the moral guide and bearer to human actions and inactions with consequences according to individual deeds.

One could possibly evade justice system through political clout, economic affluence and social status, however the wrongdoer can neither run nor hide in an effort to escape judgment delivered from within as witness to willful and deliberate indulgence.

Even though expression of sorrow and extending sympathy do not reverse the unfortunate situation for the bereaved members, the caring aspect of human nature could perhaps bring solace to the affected community.

May God Bless the departed souls to rest in peace and grant the parents and survivors strength as well as hope in dealing with the difficult moment in life.

Peace and happiness to the people in Masraki village, Saran district in Bihar.

Peace to all!

Thank you.
