Mexico Massacre – Drug Warfare and Arms Trade
November 2, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Mexico has been terrorized by the drug cartels with the civilian massacre rising by the day.
The drug warfare is taking toll on the innocent lives and draining the national economy.
The drug gangs target is not limited to the local population. As mentioned earlier the brutal killings of 72 migrant workers in late August at Tamaulipas state near the US border shocked the nation and escalated crossfire between the perpetrators and the security force.
Among the drug networks, the Zetas are considered the most notorious and ruthless having claimed responsibility for many gruesome atrocities across the country. They are also dreaded for the indiscriminate violence against the vulnerable population.
The Zetas are characterized as the renegade cartel wreaking havoc across the nation right now.
Their reputation in inflicting carnage and destruction ranks high in comparison to the splinter groups held responsible for similar crimes.
The Zetas have aroused interest and scrutiny leading to a new revelation.
According to the latest reports – the founders of the Zetas were extraordinaire Mexican troops and acquired training in the early 1990’s from Americas 7th Special Forces Group, also known as “snake eaters” at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Apart from the navigational and communication skills, the training apparently involved the basic to extreme weaponry use such as machine guns and automatic firearms.
The US Defense Department former national director and Pentagon Special Forces commander, currently a professor at the US National Defense University, Craig Deare confirmed that –
“The Zetas are none other than the US trained Mexican Armed Force from the Airmobile Special Forces Group (GAFE) regarded an elite division in the Mexican military.
Further, Professor Deare elaborated on the specific US training to the Mexican personnel comprising ‘counter-insurgency and ironically counter-narcotics operations’ with the exclusion of the advanced commando techniques that are regularly taught at Ft. Bragg.”
The reports suggest an interesting factor in this respect for world attention.
Ft. Bragg provides training for armed forces from worldwide. Hence the Mexican personnel receiving counter-insurgency maneuvers are not regarded as unusual.
However, the ex-military officials’ and general perception is the particular skills attained by the Zetas during their US training prepared them as professional narcotic dealers and mercenaries.
The Mexican President Felipe Calderon has committed 50,000 troops to combat the drug kingpins of various organization but the Zetas remain a force to reckon with especially after an estimated 30,000 lives lost in the past four years.
Grotesque violence includes decapitation and torture defiantly displayed on the main street and cyberspace notwithstanding other form of criminal activities such as engaging poor migrants into flesh trade and fatally assaulting students during private celebrations.
Even the expectant mothers are not spared in the mass executions attracting detest from other drug traders condemning the GAFE militia otherwise the Zetas for their abhorrent means in drug trafficking.
The ex-commander Deare reckons over 500 GAFE members had Special Forces training under the defined program drawing the Mexico Attorney General Office attention in 1999.
Laura Carlsen, the director, Americas program of the International Relations Center reportedly shared the information that subsequent to the US training, GAFE personnel relinquished service in the Mexico military to pursue the career as henchmen initially for the Gulf cartel and later set up their own organization – the Zetas, based on the Mexican top brass military radio code ‘Z.’
It was also pointed out that the Zetas show mercy to none in their violence against the general public.
In addition, the GAFE defections from the Mexican military is said to be significant raising an alarm for the Mexican government while the US trainers not surprised at the exodus.
The experts urge the US to investigate the methods used in the Special Forces training program for the Mexican armed forces contributing to the intriguing transformation in their human conduct.
In a similar context, the training from the Guatemalan Kaibiles, described as the unrelenting special operations force is equally found detrimental to the Mexican military personnel morale.
Within the state, the Mexican police are accused of protecting the drug cartels exacerbating the federal authorities’ battle against the narcotic agents.
Another observation being the Special Forces overseas training predominantly the US assignment combined with the meager salary in the military and police service are driving the individuals to inextricable occupation causing horrendous tragedies.
The Congress stalled $1.3billion US pledge under the 2007 Merida plan to fund the Mexican drug war is rejected by the population due to the inherent risks against its sovereignty and the potential threat to citizens’ rights.
Since nothing happens without a cause, it is essential to explore the underlying facts on the rebel groups’ emergence.
It is indicated in the reports that;
GAFE (The US trained Mexican Special Forces) was established in 1994 to curb the Zapatista rebels in southern Mexico.
The Zapatistas origin is related to NAFTA – The North American Free Trade Agreement between Canada, USA and Mexico.
Zapatistas emerged in the same day as NAFTA – January 1, 1994.
Zapatistas, the native rebel group was formed to protest NAFTA – the most unpopular treaty is referenced as the “death sentence” on Mexican population because of the flawed agreement that facilitated subsidized US crops for entry into Mexican market identical to the trade imposition on the Caribbean nation Haiti in the same period that ultimately crippled the once self-sufficient Haitian economy.
Prior to signing the NAFTA agreement, it is noted that the affluent trade partners ignored the population concerns on this issue and,
Subsequently, the Zapatistas was formed to defend the rural farming community deprived of livelihood.
In 1994, NAFTA led to Zapatistas which in turn was eliminated by GAFE.
GAFE has evolved into ‘Zetas,’ the dangerous and feared drug cartel.
GAFE was strengthened with US training and support through exposure to drugs trade surpassing any NAFTA benefits. The drug trade incentivized with uncontrolled borders allowing among many goods the disproportionate illegal drugs that successfully displaced the rural community and pushed the starving unemployed youth to drug peddling for survival.
The phenomenal annual revenue from the booming narcotics industry is evaluated between $19 billion – $40 billion and proved to be potent in the terror recruitment.
Unequivocally, the Mexican government has a daunting task in winning the war against the drug cartel.
The Mexican President Felipe Calderon could review the strategies in the drug war and address them appropriately.
First and foremost – Identify and replace the corrupt sources in the law enforcement division, Mexican Military and security personnel deployed to fight the nefarious drug gangs.
Then maintaining decent salary for the police force, the Military and the security officials from top to bottom would deter accepting bribes and promote loyalty to the nation.
Serious problems lie in the Special Forces Training GAFE – techniques and the motive for defection require thorough investigation and stringent measures to reverse the course.
Prohibiting counterproductive training to the Mexican Special Forces by US or other groups is necessary to terminate the Zetas and other drug cartel’s growth.
National guards across the border to block drugs and arms trade activities for which the United States cooperation is paramount. It would effectively restrict the supply and ease the burden on the Mexican state.
State wide inspection and crackdown on illegal drugs and arms exchange should lead to major breakthrough.
Most importantly, redefining NAFTA from Free Trade Agreement to Fair Trade Agreement would improve economic conditions and create jobs for the struggling communities.
The concerted efforts by Mexico, United States, Canada and Latin America could expedite the inevitable victory in the contentious drug war.
Mexico must realize that it is not alone in the crusade. Poignantly, none are invincible and the drug cartels are no exception.
Best Wishes to Mexico for long lasting peace, security and prosperity.
Thank you.

Es indicado en los informes esto;
Gracias.

Ecuador Failed Coup d’état – September 30, 2010
October 31, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
On September 30, 2010, yet another Latin American nation was targeted with a coup attempt by the police forces apparently not acting alone in the calculated operation fortunately resulting in a massive failure due to the brave civil society mobilization and the Ecuadorian security personnel prompt action.
Unlike the successful Honduran coup in June 2009 with the democratically elected leader Manuel Zelaya deposed against the republic will evidently involving Washington coup consultants and their liaison,
The Ecuadorian mission was a renewed political assault on its sovereignty testing the democratic strength that conveyed a defiant message to the perpetrators not to underestimate the people power.
According to the reports – the law on the spending cuts was falsely propagated as having direct impact on the police officers’ bonuses and job benefits despite no pay or perquisite reductions providing a pretext for the conspirators to instigate uprising in the capital city, Quito and the Guayquil harbor town.
Consequentially, the coup based on Latin American prototype had disrupted ground and air transportation cancelling the domestic and international flights in the country.
The Ecuadorian air force interestingly comprising numerous US-trained officers while selectively excluding the Venezuelan pilots serving within the Ecuadorian defense network is reported to have executed the halting with the misguided police coordination.
Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa seemingly had a close encounter with fatality upon approaching the police quarters to offer a personal explanation on the reform.
The President and the bodyguards were forced to take shelter in a military hospital after being confronted with the rebel police firing, tear gas and grenade explosion.
Then the military hospital was immediately sieged by the police rebels and armed opponents for prolonged hours and eventually President Correa appeared to have been set free by the Special Forces taking control of the situation.
The reports claim the following events that had unequivocally led to the local law enforcement officers’ botched coup in the Latin American nation – Ecuador.
Until now, the Ecuador police and operatives had been pursued by the US Embassy with a defined agenda accompanied by the various US agencies such as FBI, CIA , DEA and others generous funding for the high rank police officials’ bonuses and the police department’s specific requirements.
The extraordinary rapport between the Ecuador police, the army intelligence, the US Embassy and the listed US agencies had facilitated the US intelligence agency to hire their services for 24/7 surveillance of the nation’s political figures, journalists and other civilians perceived by the US intelligence as potential US opponents.
Early 2007, President Correa administration clamp down on the illegal establishment set up by the US controlled intelligencia enabled the democratic government to repossess control of their national intelligence agencies.
Moreover, the President had wisely eliminated the unofficial dealings via unethical payroll system between the Ecuadorian army intelligence, police force and the US Embassy not barring the US combined agencies.
Washington had then reacted demanding the Ecuadorian DEA return the computers supplied by the US DEA.
The Ecuador-US relations had soured after President Correa’s closure of the US airbase in Mante. So Washington disapproved Ecuador partnership with its Latin American neighbors among several other issues.
As stated earlier, the overwhelming confidence from the Honduran coup triumph in June 2009 had motivated Washington to imitate plan in other parts of Latin America and the U.S. administration had under evaluated Ecuadorians resistance.
The Latin American nations’ democratically elected leaderships have been constantly threatened and overthrown invariably by the U.S. backed forces leaving the region in ceaseless economic and political turmoil.
Reports suggest that the blatant coup against President Rafael Correa was a systematic effort initiated by the US ambassador to Ecuador, Heather Hodges appointed in August 2008.
The profile details her as having previously worked in Guatemala under the dictatorial regime Rios Montt and later on held deputy director position with the US State Department for Cuban Affairs interconnected to CIA.
Mrs. Hodges prior employment with USAID in many nations and,
Subsequently as the US ambassador to Moldova primarily entailed severing ties of these countries with Russia and form an orange revolution. At present Mrs. Hodges is said to be training CIA employed groups in Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador.
The trip made by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Quito in June 2009 to convince the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa to agree with US on all issues and reverse the earlier actions proved to be futile.
Hence, the US ambassador Heather Hodges was ordered to carry out the coup to debilitate President Correa and ultimately replace the incumbent with the government in agreement to US position like in Honduras.
USAID had solely interjected $40 million for this purpose using the former Ecuadorian President Lucio Gutierrez as the protagonist. The ex-President miserable performance had contributed to the Ecuadorian plight that set his departure from the country denying him access to power during the 2009 Presidential bid that concluded in a colossal defeat.
Per the carefully crafted CIA blueprint President Gutierrez was to portray the incumbent President Rafael Correa as an alleged “dictator,” and advise power transfer to an interim government in a televised statement.
Furthermore, the plot aimed at the Ecuadorian Parliament abandonment and prepare the nation for mock elections.
However, the democratically elected President Correa’s allies thwarted the plan and declined television appearance to the former President.
Also the lndian group PACHAKUTIK had refused to participate in the overthrow leading to the coup collapse.
Ecuador is under emergency rule and President Rafael Correa is believed to have vowed to investigate the elements from the police to the army intelligence sources behind the undemocratic process.
The former President Gutierrez and the organization Sociedad Patriotica is indicted for the explicit role in the CIA masterminded failed coup.
UNASUR – The Union of South American Nations resembling the EU had an emergency meeting in Argentinian Capital, Buenos Aires on October 1, 2010 to address and adopt measures on the Ecuador political crisis and the relentless coups against Latin American governments.
The reports confirmed that Washington did not condemn those engaged in the Ecuador coup d’état.
Latin American coups have long been the tradition leading to U.S. as the originating point.
Nevertheless, the successive coups – Honduras in 2009 and Ecuador in 2010 deserves worldwide condemnation denouncing the architects’ perpetual endeavor to inflict political instability, economic constriction and social chaos on the Latin American population.
Regardless of status, any nation that foments political unrest driven by ‘Super Power’ syndrome has a credibility factor demonstrating as a reliable global leader in the twenty first century.
Powerful nations gain respect and recognition when the leaderships strive for global peace and prosperity rather than weakening the sovereignty of nations seeking trustworthy partnership to alleviate their struggle.
Given the facts and circumstantial evidences in the continuous Latin American coups,
United States taxpayers as the electorates have a prime responsibility to rise to the occasion on the eve of the crucial mid-term election and pose the legitimate questions to the Congressional contenders;
As the elected representatives and the republic voice in Congress,
What is their strategy to end the U.S political meddling in international domain?
Why the masterminds are granted political impunity in the deliberate involvement to cause mayhem in other societies?
Are they satisfied with their inaction or lack of interest underscoring the complicity to the provocative political interference in other parts of the world exacerbating the local population suffering?
How do they propose to hold those responsible for the systemic abuse of power?
Democracy is powerful when the voice of the people are heard maintaining equal rights and justice for all.
Thank you.

Los contribuyentes de los Estados Unidos como los electorados tienen una responsabilidad principal de elevarse a la ocasión en vísperas de la elección de mitad de trimestre crucial y plantear las preguntas legítimas a los contendientes del Congreso;
Gracias.

India-U.S.Relationship and the Nuclear Deal
October 21, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The two democratic nations – the United States and India have remained at odds during the cold war predominantly due to the foreign policy by the U.S. administration under the former Republican President Richard Nixon with Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at that time and continued then onwards by the Ex-President Ronald Reagan until early 2000.
Subsequently diplomacy surfaced with President George W. Bush, the Republican predecessor’s overtures to India in the wake of globalization.
With the changing Indian political landscape and economic policies in the late nineties, the U.S. businesses explored the South Asian nation for entrepreneurial opportunities enabled by the technology revolution that led to partial normalization of relationship between the two democracies on the economic side but not militarily.
United States courtship with India’s nuclear neighbor Pakistan as an indispensable ally in the so-called war on terror with continuous undisclosed and disclosed military aid including the U.S. taxpayer funded $10 billion still unaccounted for is contentious.
As much as the U.S. nuclear deal with India was frustrating Pakistan prompting them to engage in arms trade and building nuclear reactors with China’s assistance as the enthusiastic supplier to developing nations.
The two permanent Security Council members – the United States and China were essentially competing with one another in the arms race, while the remaining members reaching out to other potential interests around the world.
After the dangerous nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan in the Kargil armed conflict, the tensions between the two countries were easing with trade and transportation access across the Punjab state in northern India, but the external influence thwarted the bilateral progress ultimately ending in the status quo.
Similarly, the assertion on Pakistan holding evidence against India for the apparent political intervention in Afghanistan describing it as the driving factor in the Pakistan-Taliban strong union is counterproductive and foments regional polarization.
Notably, when Pakistan has been the bastion for Afghanistan Taliban forces until and after the 9/11 attacks with the Taliban Mullahs televised press conference aired from none other than Pakistan.
Notwithstanding the terror attempt against the Indian Parliament, attacks on the earlier Bombay Stock Exchange, Hindu temple in Allahabad, many foiled terror plots followed by the prominent 2008 Mumbai terrorism, all of them consistently originating from Pakistan.
If Afghanistan is a sovereign nation, then it should be at liberty to establish trade relationship with India or others and vice versa without having to seek regional consent or approval.
The divisive tactics has been catastrophic to the people world over. Such twentieth century practices are best abandoned to move forward.
Now, the renewed approach is the continuation of President Bush policy on nuclear deal enticing India with undemocratic propositions detailed by the U.S. ambassador to India in the latest interview with New Delhi media suggesting that the current legislation passed in the Indian Parliament imposing appropriate restrictions on the nuclear civil program be sidelined to pave way for negotiations with U.S. businesses in the nuclear industry.
Further, the U.S. ambassador Timothy Roemer generous offer to India with sophisticated arms and ammunitions to enhance the relationship is regrettable, considering the volatility in the region.
U.S. seeking business partnership with India is primarily focused on militarizing and nuclearizing the nation rather than reversing the trend to achieve the universal nuclear disarmament, the only pragmatic course to global peace and security.
India and the United States could forge better trade relations through civilian projects in other areas of economic benefit.
It would contribute to the much required job growth in the U.S. with India benefiting from the advanced high end commercial deals in aviation, heavy machinery and equipment to modernize the manufacturing sector.
Besides the multitude prospects in India’s infrastructure improvement and construction are guaranteed to provide mutual gains.
The controversy surrounding the Mumbai terror attack in 2008 is attention worthy given the difference of opinion on intelligence sharing especially with respect to the American citizen David Headley’s crucial involvement in the devastating terror act that claimed many innocent lives.
Citing the October 2010 Washington Post article on the U.S. intelligence agency having prior knowledge about Mumbai terror plot, the victims’ families and the concerned citizens are interested in investigating this matter.
According to the reports, the terror suspect David Headley’s spouse tipped off the FBI in 2005 on her husband’s admission in Mumbai terror conspiracy including the details on his extensive training under the terror network Lashkar e Taiba in Pakistan.
Also the reports stated that the terror suspect David Headley’s subsequent meetings with Lashkar e Taiba until 2008 is allegedly known by the FBI.
The terror network Lashkar e Taiba alliance with certain ISI officials in Pakistan conclusively held responsible for the heinous crimes against the civilians in public square.
Upon the Indian media raising the issue with the U.S. ambassador, the response was –
“The U.S alerted the Indian authorities three times prior to the terror attack.”
However, the ambassador did not address the question regarding the terror suspect David Headley and FBI.
Therefore, there is a legitimate request for clarification on all sides to eliminate doubts by presenting the facts to determine the security lapse behind the successful terror attack against unarmed citizens.
Security strategies aside, the two nations have tremendous potential to coordinate efforts in promoting peace through social and economic development beginning with Pakistan and Afghanistan pervading to other parts of the world.
There has been enough bloodshed and violence with no end in sight. The desire to wage war has superseded the earnest quest for peace and diplomacy.
The gap between the haves and have-nots widened with the poor becoming the poorest and the middle class disappearing from the equation is largely attributed to failed policies substantially favoring the minority wealthy against the poor and middle class majority.
In settling political disputes, the position is confined to short term solutions ignoring the long term ramifications affecting the region and the entire world.
U.S and India with the international community without exception could come together as one entity in resolving the burgeoning political, economic, social and environmental crises.
Injustice towards one is injustice against all. The twentieth century holocaust is a stark reminder for collective action. Humanity thrives as a unified force in dealing with challenges in all frontiers.
Individual freedom and republic rule – the fundamental human right precipitously declining in the twenty first century set to fall back to medieval feudalism.
The economic powers strengthening ties with the developed and developing nations would alleviate the significant world population suffering effectively spreading peace all around.
It was highlighted in the Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s address to Congress on May 20, 2010 during the official State visit to Washington D.C.
Shifting focus on the U.S and India relation – Bilateral talks between the United States and India could expand beyond the political and economic realm with,
A commitment towards robust environmental policy,
Ratifying the CTBT, NPT and FMCT in concurrence with other nations,
Not barring the ICBL – the international campaign to ban land mines and,
Cultural exchange programs fostering respect and appreciation for one another.
Additionally, both democracies could initiate setting up educational system, health care facilities and technology for the developing nations deprived of economic prosperity from prolonged war and natural disaster.
The U.S. and India relationship is promising with a pervasive global impact.
Peace on Earth.
Thank you.

War and Geo-Political Status 21st Century – The Ultimate Resolution
October 8, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
In the twenty first century, the war is interestingly waged in Islamic nations around the world.
Beginning with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Palestinian Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem, Yemen, Chechnya, Somalia and Sudan with skirmishes in Central Asia as seen in the recent Kyrgyzstan with Uzbek Muslims largely massacred in ethnic violence –
Terrorism and insurgencies are the by-product of relentless warfare and foreign policies fostering political instability in turn exacerbating economic and social development.
The trend is prevalent to date.
Afghanistan – The former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney started the war in 2001 declaring the terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden will be captured “dead or alive.”
Even the message resonated in the 2008 Presidential campaign with Senator John McCain as the Republican Presidential candidate pledging –
“I will follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell.”
The Democratic Presidential candidate, the then Senator Barack Obama essentially repeated his predecessor’s rhetoric –
“Bush had earlier vowed to catch bin Laden “Dead or Alive,” and … “My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him. …”
We are in 2010 and the war is a decade old with tremendous loss of lives on all sides.
U.S and allies economy drained with the superfluous troops and financial investment, the troops’ low morale after continuous deployment and the public war fatigue at its peak,
Afghanistan today is still in the medieval age under the U.S. and NATO appointed Karzai administration that has been unanimously criticized for massive corruption and lack of direction in governance.
Meanwhile, Taliban leaders in Afghanistan are reportedly held hostage by the Pakistani military and ISI prohibiting them from initiating negotiations with the Afghan government to demonstrate Pakistani officials’ clout in the crisis.
Superseding these issues is the Al-Qaeda ring leader; Osama Bin Laden neither captured alive nor pronounced dead, a convenient situation to prolong the unsustainable war strategy.
If Osama Bin Laden is alive as it is claimed by the authorities, it raises the following questions:
Given the formidable U.S. and NATO forces in operation and the significant troops involvement since the war began in 2001, the severely incapacitated Osama Bin Laden remains at large according to the political and military high command.
Further, the White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel prior to his departure last week is quoted to have questioned the administration on this issue with a statement in sheer amazement.
“We are spending about $50 billion on intelligence and we still don’t know where Osama Bin Laden is?”
Despite CIA overt operation through para-military in Pakistan and the Pakistani intelligence provided with U.S. intelligence assistance, the mastermind Osama Bin Laden cannot be found in the all too familiar territories Afghanistan where the U.S. trained the Mujahedeen, prominently Osama Bin Laden who later created the terror network ‘Al-Qaeda,’ is;
Remarkably similar to the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq that could never be found because it did not exist.
Any re-creation or resurrection accentuates the flaws due to the unauthentic replay leading to the fact that the scenario is ‘weapons of mass deception’ in the public eye.
Besides the former President George W. Bush family’s close ties with Osama Bin Laden’s immediate family is common knowledge and such relation enabled the Bin Laden family departure from the United States when all flights were grounded soon after 9/11.
Another compelling factor being Osama Bin Laden was not apprehended in Tora Bora even though the armed personnel requested for the former President George W. Bush, the Supreme Commander- in- Chief’s order for action.
These events were legitimized by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the terror experts, the media reports and cited by Senator John McCain during his Presidential bid.
The strange predicament being Osama Bin Laden is wanted “dead or alive,” and when there were opportunities to capture the terror leader, the executive order was not delivered to the armed forces to attain the goal.
Terror warnings are being issued claiming that Osama Bin Laden is preparing to wreak havoc in Europe like he did in Mumbai that took place on November 26, 2008, even though this particular terror activity was directly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and acknowledged by the assassin;
“Ajmal Kasab, the only attacker who was captured alive, disclosed that the attackers were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based militant organization. He said the attackers came from Pakistan, and their controllers were in Pakistan.”
Osama Bin Laden is continually used in the possible terror attacks and claimed as the primary target in the war on terror with no news regarding his whereabouts and sources except during the terror alerts surfacing upon Osama Bin Laden reference by the peace activists.
It’s crucial to resolve this issue once and for all considering the brave young men and women in uniform are deployed to supposedly eliminate Al-Qaeda and find Osama Bin Laden in the mission that began in 2001.
Many service men and women are serving for nearly a decade with some redeployed after having been in Iraq for four to five years. Most of these courageous frontline soldiers sacrificed in the on-going war are in the age group between 19 – 21 years old and have barely experienced life.
If a 29 year old private sergeant is killed in action after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for twelve straight years and survived by his young pregnant spouse and a toddler and the war agenda is still a mystery then it becomes necessary to find out,
What exactly are we doing in these battle grounds?
As per the latest CIA report, along the Pakistan-Afghan border – Waziristan, there are fewer than one hundred Al-Qaeda members and negligible Taliban forces compared to U.S representation around 120,000 troops with NATO alliance.
Regardless the world’s most powerful by far the sophisticated U.S. and NATO contingency with all the imaginable resources at their disposal are experiencing difficulty over nine years in seizing the fractional terror members with inferior ammunition is astonishing for it defies logic.
Therefore, if the military commanders in the best interest of the troops, the nation and the international community could unequivocally clarify on the precise mission in Afghanistan and particularly, present the facts on Osama Bin Laden it would be enormously helpful in the decisions related to ongoing wars and defense spending during legislation and election.
Above all, the Afghan population deserves the truth for they are severely dispensed with their family generations wiped out in the ceaseless conflict.
If the Al-Qaeda leader is alive, it shouldn’t be harder to locate with the intelligence dragnet across the globe perhaps within twenty four to forty eight hours and brought to justice.
Alternatively, it would be honorable to declassify the classified public information and submit the verifiable facts on the Al-Qaeda leaders’ death.
As for all issues concerning the military operation, the President of the United States being the Supreme Commander-in-Chief bears complete responsibility.
The defense and the national security team are accountable to the President – responsible for the troop level authorization, withdrawal timeline and final approval on war strategies.
In the Afghan war, the information on the ultimate authority in the decision-making process is not clear.
While it is being maintained that there is disconnect and discord between the military and the civilian exchange on operational matter and that the President is not briefed on vital military positions such as the actual troop numbers by the top security adviser and military command,
It is suggested that any dissatisfaction in the Afghan war status quo should be attributed to the military command and not the civilian authority, the President of the United States who is also incidentally, the Commander-in-Chief.
This is contradictory to the latest occurrence that involved the military’s top ranking official
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, removed by the President of the United States for ‘off-the’ record comment about the administration, revealing the authority in control.
Now in the expansive military role especially in Afghanistan and Pakistan taking horrendous toll on human lives and economic costs, the ambiguity in management as to,
“Who is calling the shots,” is rather disturbing and,
Require clarification to the armed forces and their families including the taxpayers footing the expense for the extravagant and uncertain adventure.
In that context, the exclusive secret meetings held for the selective members belonging to nexus organization apparently to discuss global economic health and the general humanitarian issues with the press and public debarred from participation is unsettling based on the discussions being related to the world population and not any private individual matter.
In fact, the nature of such gathering by the privileged members – selective heads of the state, corporate leaders and military command, a majority representing democratic societies alienating the voice of democracy – the communication media and the public is undemocratic not to mention the forum failing to meet transparency and accountability.
These meetings where the Presidential candidates as the future leader of the ‘free world’ prior to being approved by the electorate are summoned inconspicuously defying the press and denying access to the democratic process in itself is a serious credibility factor and beckons legitimate reasons on the definitive purpose.
It’s imperative to highlight the security measures taken during these sessions reflecting the twentieth century pre-world war II characteristics in the twenty first century causing frustration among the members in the society from various discipline gravely concerned about the abnormal clandestine consortium.
The public opinion upon revelation on the political, economic, corporate media and military institutional assembly behind closed doors to map out global direction is;
If it is conducted to benefit humanity then it is commendable and praiseworthy.
But then, why not hold them in public view and elaborate on the objectives to the republics’ complete satisfaction eliminating any doubts on the validity of the futuristic aspirations.
In conclusion, the fulcrum power has two immediate priorities to stabilize the deteriorating global environment predominantly due to incessant warfare and undemocratic principles adopted in the universal policies targeting humanity.
Disclosure on Osama Bin Laden and dismantling secret organizations – the deafening silence thus far proved detrimental to human progress in every frontier.
Any reluctance to conform or evasion through false propaganda and negative attacks would categorically confirm the “Who is Who” and the intrinsic aspects of –
‘The New World Order’ inevitably setting itself for a disastrous end.
Humanity thrives with consolidated contributions benefiting all and not a ‘specific society’ in the globalization concept.
Peace and perseverance to make this world a better place for all inhabitants is the natural path to prosperity.
Thank you.

War and Geo-Political Status 20th Century
October 7, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The global economy is still far from recovery and most nations are dealing with austerity, Europe in particular much against their population will.
Meanwhile, among them an overwhelming majority have disproportionate defense budget that is not targeted in the spending cuts. United States has an exceptionally higher defense expenditure that is invariably passed with bipartisan approval regardless of the political party in power.
Whereas, the other life threatening issues concerning jobs, health care, social security, housing…are usually subjective to filibuster and marginalization at the worst resulting in a meaningless final product.
The contemporary society is currently confronted with the so-called war on terror. Although terrorism took birth in the twentieth century predominantly through Middle East conflicts, it escalated in the twenty first century with 9/11 becoming the premise for relentless warfare fomenting terrorism seeing no end in sight.
After two world wars to contain imperialism, fascism and ‘Great Depression,’ the expectation among the international community was long lasting peaceful environment with the governments focused on alleviating poverty, hunger and disease contributing to a healthy habitat for all living beings.
Subsequently the United Nations Charter was created with the U.N. Security Council formation comprising the five nations – United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China and France maintaining the status quo until now, despite the titanic shift in the economic realm over the latter part of the twentieth century leading till date.
The authorities then in power with the responsibility to establish peace and harness diplomatic relations, instead steered in the opposite direction with communism rising in the former Soviet Union, Germany in the West and the entire Eastern Europe as well as China influencing South East Asia.
It’s noteworthy that the arms race proliferated rather than being terminated at the end of world wars with the United States and the then Soviet union followed by the remaining Security Council members successfully conducting their nuclear test that empowered them as the largest nuclear arsenal holders and continue to remain so.
Further, the U.N. Security Council members’ illegal invasions and occupations in the aftermath of the world wars proceeded throughout the twentieth and now into the twenty first century with certain occupied territories annexed as the regional state again at the prevailing horrendous humanitarian plight such as Tibet, Palestinian territories and the disputed regions in the Middle East and elsewhere.
The cold war between the two major powers – the United States and the Soviet Union vying for ‘Super Power’ status caused the ‘United Nations’ to split with the two contenders choosing partners conciliatory to their respective political positions at that time.
In the sixties, it is also well known that the cold war brought the two major powers on the brink of nuclear confrontation with the Cuban Missile crisis.
Notwithstanding the Korean War notably the significant armed Cold War conflict with the reunification negotiations eventually evolved into a proxy war sponsored by the three U.N. Security Council members – the U.S., Soviet Union and China.
The infamous Vietnam War spreading to the neighboring Cambodia and Laos certainly aroused the anti-war sentiments in the United States and around the world at its peak but it did not necessarily deter the wars in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and the Middle East with the United States and the other permanent U.N. Security Council members involved in almost all of them either directly or indirectly as the arms supplier including the combat forces viz. Afghanistan on the ground.
Increased military aid to Indonesia in 1977 at the height of the East Timorese massacre produced more than one-third i.e. around 200,000 East Timor population deaths in war related starvation, disease and atrocities.
Likewise in 1978 the military aid to Central America against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and similar assistance to El Salvador compounded the regional turmoil with incredible loss of lives from brutal killings.
In 1979, the U.S. tax payers’ approximately $40 billion dollars investment to train Mujahedeen in Afghanistan generated Osama Bin Laden.
Arguably, the United States footprints in Latin America and Middle East are comparatively prominent with the other members concentrating in their region, Central Asia and Africa.
However, the genocide from the civil wars in Africa through the permanent U.N. Security Council members’ arms trade and distribution was entirely ignored since 1991 and up until now – such as the Democratic Republic of Congo referred to as ‘African World War,’ Burundi, Rwanda earlier on, and Darfur, Sudan.
It’s imperative to mention Haiti during the Democratic and Republican administrations’ at the White House going back to 1977 when agreements were made to decline Haitian refugees asylum claims and between 1990 and up until now – the Democratically elected popular leader Jean Bertrand Aristide indefinitely exiled in South Africa.
The combined powerful U.S.and NATO forces delayed intervention in Bosnia, Herzegovina or for that matter regrettable deliberation on Rwanda rescue operation could be regarded worthwhile, leaving other missions a territorial conquest and/or an economic interest.
It’s obvious that the military industrial complex war strategy is the same with the players alternated between the two major political parties in the United States and the trend replicated in other western democracies as the permanent U.N. Security council members.
Twentieth century wars fought in the regions desperately seeking economic and social development were categorically denied the opportunities to merge with the rest of the world converting those nations into a fertile ground for terror recruitment.
Therefore, the cyclical violence is a revenue source for the conventional and the nuclear weapons industry at the horrendous loss of lives and economic cost.
That raises many questions surrounding the wars and the global community priority in the tough economic times. They are evaded with no logical explanation often confirming the doubts in the public mind.
The war architects owe the domestic and international citizenry evidence based legitimate reason for the decade old conflicts severely affecting the weak and the vulnerable in the so-called war on terror.
Thank you.

Special Acknowledgment – President Jimmy Carter North Korea Visit
September 20, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
The Nobel Peace Laureate, President Jimmy Carter is renowned for great accomplishments prominently the long lasting Peace Accord between Egypt and Israel at Camp David during his Presidency and the magnificent work through the internationally acclaimed humanitarian organization – Habitat for Humanity providing relief to millions in many areas around the world.
As the founder of Habitat for Humanity, President Jimmy Carter has elevated the living standards and survival rate of the significant population across the globe.
President Jimmy Carter has voiced his legitimate concerns and demonstrated through actions the urgency to heed to rationality than ‘Super Power,’ mentality in foreign policy and environmental issues.
Recently, the former President visit to North Korea in releasing the innocent American citizen, 31 year old Aijalon Gomes from Boston, Massachusetts – is commendable and praiseworthy.
The victim was held prisoner and sentenced to eight years of hard labor in addition to being fined with $700,000 for trespassing and allegedly committing a “hostile act.”
President Jimmy Carter had not only been successful in the prisoner release but also reportedly sought peace message from Pyongyang.
The news excerpts are submitted below:

Former President Jimmy Carter Aids in North Korea release of American Man:
North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Carter’s departure, saying the ex-leader apologized for Gomes’ actions.
The pardon “to set free the illegal entrant is a manifestation of (North Korea’s) humanitarianism and peace-loving policy,” KCNA said.

(NECN) – Former President Jimmy Carter says he hopes the recent release of a Boston man held prisoner in North Korea can move peace talks forward with the country.
Carter says North Korean officials invited him to travel to there to discuss the release of Aijalon Gomes.
He says it took five months to get the trip cleared by the White House to free Gomes, who was sentenced to paying $700,000 and 8 years of hard labor.
Carter says he believes Gomes was treated humanely while he was being held for 7 months.
During his speech at the Carter Center, the former president also revealed that during his meeting with North Korean authorities, they repeatedly told him that they were interested in pursuing peace talks with other countries.
“They were eager to have peace talks that would lead to de-nuclearization of the peninsula,” he says, “and a permanent peace treaty with the United States and South Korea to replace the cease-fire that’s existed ever since I was a young submarine officer.”
Carter says that North Korean officials told him to bring a message back to Washington that they were interested in giving up their nuclear capability if the U.S., South Korea, Japan, and China were willing to negotiate with them.

Peace Prospect with North Korea – By Padmini Arhant
It’s clear from the Ex-President Jimmy Carter’s visit and presentation at the Carter Center that;
Earnest peace and diplomacy can prevail over belligerence restoring normal relations between Washington and regimes that are permanently secluded with a possible nuclear threat and war games.
There is enough evidence that the peace talks held since the former Republican President Ronald Reagan era until now has failed to focus on peaceful resolutions. The failure in all these peace discussions could be attributed to exhibiting the military might via missile capabilities rather than exploring the peace prospects through economic, trade relationships, social and cultural exchange as witnessed in February 2008 when the New York Philharmonic Orchestra visited North Korea displaying glimpse of hope in Washington-Pyongyang relationship.
When the olive branch is extended for a long lasting and meaningful peace treaty, it provides a unique opportunity for the leaderships engaged in the decades old peninsula peace talks to capitulate and move forward with the dialogue directed at de-nuclearization and political transformation.
Pyongyang’s message through President Jimmy Carter is phenomenal seeking conciliatory response from Washington. There is no reason to procrastinate on the promising peace summit likely to produce the desirable outcome considering the details outlined to President Jimmy Carter.
Any reluctance or delay from Washington and others to the historic meeting would categorically reveal the forces against peace and their real agenda.
People in North and South Korea along with Japan have endured the tensions with the United States struggling to obtain the reliable consensus from China in the quartet sessions held thus far.
North Korean officials’ statement breaks conventional barriers offering a new dimension for nuclear disarmament and further determination among Washington, Japan and South Korea could lead to a political freedom in the domestic front besides ending the standoff between the once united Korea.
The decision remains with Washington in seizing the moment to help the long suffering North Korean people from abject poverty, economic and social progress due to political isolation.
Peace in the Korean peninsula would be monumental permeating to other oppressed regions.
Declining the peace offer would be detrimental to the United States image and President Barack Obama campaign pledge for “Hope and Change.”
Moreover, any hesitation to clinch the deal would confirm the true commitment or the lack thereof by the concerned parties especially Washington.
Above all, it serves as a litmus test for Pyongyang to prove that the defined goals are genuine and the leadership is sincere in the long overdue peace agreement.
Default from any or all negotiating partners would be catastrophic for the people in the peninsula emphasizing the leaderships’ inability and weakness in delivering a positive result.
President Jimmy Carter as an excellent peace emissary for the United States has once again brought the wonderful gift to humanity awaiting spontaneous acknowledgment from Washington.
Hopefully, President Barack Obama along with the remaining leaders in the quartet would enable success through fruitful negotiations and grant eternal peace to the people in the peninsula.
Thank you.

Truth Verification and Implication on Whistle Blowers
September 18, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
In the bizarre political environment – certain talking heads for the political class or the establishment in Washington condemn truth in the name of free speech while forbidding others of the same constitutional right confirming hypocrisy in the so-called democracy.
Propaganda through subversion of facts is the typical characteristics in the denial and dismissal of truth, despite evidences in the relevant matter.
Truth and first amendment rights are the primary targets in successfully evading debates concerning human tragedies from health, economic to incessant warfare.
Attempts to discredit those raising legitimate questions on national issues and humanity at large bear uncanny semblance to the political systems depriving citizens of the democratic right to express views and opinions.
Ordinary citizens are expected to accept responsibility for their actions; meanwhile the extraordinary held above the law regardless of the issues.
The buffer created to protect the authorities from any investigation constitutes the distinctive hierarchy that in itself is undemocratic expanding the opportunities for history to repeat itself in recent times.
As for the various speculations on the possible intentions behind the humanitarian issues facts finding – there is no materialistic, political aspirations or celebrity quest involved in the spiritually guided humanitarian mission selflessly carried out to protect the planet and the inhabitants from further degradation in preparation for the new peaceful era.
The declaration in April 2010 is not a personal affirmation to any political status but a revelation in the contemporary sense on the spiritual being’s arrival and presence as the humanity’s protector to complete the cosmic realization in correlation with time and space.
Any skepticism or criticism in this regard would be an individual prerogative and the perspective is respected.
Nonetheless, if there are any from the expected quarters, then it would be a ‘selective and convenient,’ position given their precise instructions to get the political candidates elected in the midterm elections and follow the order.
Innuendoes suggest political approach as ‘calculating,’ and not “Saintly” – disregarding the notion that when defending the oppressed, persecuted and exploited population – the victims in the contentious politics with excess greed for power, fame and fortune,
The defender’s position to the powerful and the critics would always appear anything but reasonable.
Besides, from earlier experience it’s clear that when dealing with political and social issues, politeness is mistaken for weakness and silence misconstrued as an ‘apology,’ among some elite and presumptuous in the social-political circle. The populace grievances are neglected with no real or long lasting solutions to the problems.
Immigrants cited as ‘foreigners’ continue to be marginalized by the visibly clamorous ‘minority’ in the television and news media representing the oligarchy.
Fairness and equality is a misnomer with high level of suspicions against individual’s genuine sacrifices for humanitarian good reflecting xenophobia.
However, the horrendous crises resulting in loss of life or serious health problems requiring attention are not a priority and considered unimportant at the least inconvenient.
The lack of empathy for the poor and the ignored majority is an accepted norm in the contemporary society. Upon request to alleviate suffering, the action is misinterpreted as an unnecessary intrusion with ulterior motives.
Unless there is unanimous recognition for honest commitment to deliver in common interest, the gap between the rich and poor will widen with the continuous burden on the wealthy to provide for the rest.
Human conditions could vastly improve with the ability to survive and maintain an affordable economic and healthy habitat. It is made possible by strong political will dedicated to serving the people electing them to office.
Moral and ethical failure is contributed by the abuse of power with no accountability and transparency in political and corporate dealings. Above all, the concerted effort to discourage the pursuit is quite disturbing.
Hence dissent against war and disappointment in other national issues are easily suppressed under these conditions.
Therefore, whistle blowers are forced to submerge and portrayed as potential threats to the status quo through certain volunteers in the news media across the spectrum contrary to them being the voice for democracy.
Democracy is cosmetic rather than realistic in a society without equal rights.
Thank you.

Midterm Election 2010 – An Opportunity to Rebuild the Great Nation
September 13, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Midterm Election 2010 is an opportunity to rebuild the great nation – the United States of America.
From the latest developments it’s clear that Washington is broken and desperately requires citizens’ involvement in governance to restore the renowned American values that remains the basis in attracting many across the globe.
United States is resilient, resourceful and admirably courageous in dealing with any crisis.
It is evident in this great nation’s history for it has weathered the fierce storms and survived even the “Great Depression.”
The people representing the stars and stripes have come forward as one nation and contributed their unique skills in building the United States as the economic engine and a model democracy.
United States is the beacon of light for the entire world and the leadership will continue to provide the necessary guidance to those seeking political, economic and social progress in their domain.
The fall election is crucial to implement the changes that Washington has been deprived due to partisanship and special interests dominance in the legislation.
The political majority and the minority that prioritizes public interest and delivers the campaign promise are worth re-electing.
It predominantly rests with the American electorate in their choice of candidates as their representatives in Washington.
The combined forces such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce influencing the Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited cash flow in the election campaign together with the political architects determined to distract the electorate through distortion and negative attacks render the democratic elections irrelevant.
Whenever a candidate with no established record or substantive policies to move the nation forward is dependent upon the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and smear campaign, that candidate is unequivocally pledged to the sources behind them and not their constituents.
Their name might be on the ballot but only in theory for the real candidates are the big industries devising the policy and the strategists with the political ideology.
Voter discernment in electing the candidates with proven record and service against those without solutions to any problems could make the desirable change possible.
Congressional Democrats in the House and the Senate have worked extremely hard and are committed to improve the American lives. The selective few Republican members share the credit for their bipartisanship that enabled the recent reforms.
The policies related to ongoing wars contributing to the brave armed forces’ death toll and, the national deficit from the disproportionate defense expenditure with no accountability and transparency have been largely accepted without subjecting the claims to due process.
Public concern and views are disregarded and democracy undermined through propaganda subverting facts to promote the specific agenda.
The abuse of power with little or no respect for the constitutional law and democracy, reckless decisions that led to a bankrupt economy, chaos, death and destruction are minor details as compared to the serious ramifications on the office of Presidency – setting a dangerous precedence for history to repeat itself citing the predecessor’s exemption from law in the land of justice.
Ignoring the warnings on 9/11 attacks and conspicuously neglecting the constitutional duty to protect American lives is a colossal Presidential failure.
Above all, granting immunity to the status is rejecting the constitution set up to safeguard the national interest and the democratic principles that guarantees equal justice.
Accordingly, the nation particularly the United States Congress is obligatory to the 9/11 victims and their families in initiating a thorough investigation in public view with appropriate findings against all those implicated regardless of stature.
Democracy is threatened when the lawmakers become the lawbreakers and decline action against unethical conduct exemplifying discriminatory practice with law being applicable only to the law abiding ordinary citizens but not the powerful absconding the law.
These are truly the trying times for democracy and their representatives in presenting unwavering justice to preserve national security and the rule of law reflecting the fact that no one is above the law.
Massive voter turnout exceeding the 2008 statistics is paramount to overhaul Washington.
Please vote for the democrats so that they can cast their vote in return on legislation addressing the average citizens’ plight.
At the same time, the Republican members have invariably cast ‘Nay’ votes on ‘regular citizens’ issues while some of their colleagues choose abstinence to facilitate special interests victory.
Voting is the basic right denied to a significant population in some parts of the world and the citizens in a democratic society have tremendous chance to reshape the political landscape.
Hence ‘rally America’ to the midterm elections is an important call for all citizens.
Thank you.

Mexico – Drugs, Guns and Human Trafficking
August 28, 2010
By Padmini Arhant
Mexico is in the middle of the worst battle against the drug cartels and human traffickers. The North American state is bogged down with horrendous crimes against the vulnerable population within and outside the country attempting to flee the economic, political and social quagmire.
Rather than substantial investments in economy, education, health care, energy and environmental issues,
The Mexican President Felipe Calderón government is forced to divest substantial national resources in targeting the criminals held responsible for the recent massacre, shootings, explosions and gang warfare.
According to the latest reports, the horrific execution of the 72 migrants from Central and South America near Texas border is a grim reality on the lawlessness prevailing in the clashes between the drug gangs and the federal forces.
The drug gang suspected to be involved in the migrant killings is identified as the ‘Zetas,’ ironically represented by the ex-police and military special force officers. Those individuals who were once trained to protect the citizens and the nation are now wreaking havoc through human smuggling and drug related activities.
Their expansive raid is seemingly indiscriminate and none are considered off-limit. They aim at prosecutors daring to bring them to justice, organize shooting spree near private schools attended by defenseless children.
Otherwise, their cowardly act see no boundaries and all are regarded a ‘fair game.’
Obviously there are two elements facilitating their massive operations or the successful heinous crimes and that being – drugs and guns.
These two deadly sources are proved to be potent arsenal used by warfare agents, whether they are drug gangs in Mexico or the terrorists in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Yemen…
They are also the greatest threat to global peace and security.
During the Mexican President’s state visit to Washington, the epidemic violence was shared as the biggest concern among other issues. In that context, the requirement to address the drug and arms supply sources across the U.S and Mexican border was also expressed.
The lucrative arms trade from the United States to Mexico was even cited by the State Department at that time. The convenient exchange of drugs for ammunition between these networks is evolving into an international affair as witnessed in the migrants’ deaths.
Evidently, Mexico alone cannot combat the situation against the nexus operatives located in the regions along North and South Mexican borders.
Perhaps, the United States and other Mexican neighbors consolidated efforts in terminating the deals originating from their end would ease the burden on the Mexican government.
Besides, none are invincible and the drug suppliers together with the arms dealers are no exceptions to the fact. They could be easily dealt with by the combined federal forces in Mexico and the United States.
Essentially, eliminating the sources regardless of its origin is the preliminary step towards containing the spiraling violence that is reported to have claimed a staggering 28,000 lives since 2006.
Further, corruption within government and police forces in Mexico is another factor exacerbating the crisis. The innocent civilians in the urban and rural areas are in a dilemma while seeking protection from the criminals.
The Mexican law enforcement authorities could provide immunity to the suspects in their custody and have them assist the government in tracking down the masterminds behind the organized crime.
Often the gangs and terror groups seek the economically disadvantaged youths to serve their nefarious agendas. Their easy targets are commonly the population in abject poverty and the disoriented segments deprived of future and struggling to survive in the harsh economic environment.
Mexico jobs are on the rise with no improvement in the workers’ earnings and benefits.
Therefore, both urban and rural development boosting job growth with simultaneous increase in wages for better living standards would deter recruits in aligning with the drug cartels.
A unified community along with strong police security pledged to citizens’ safety could prohibit the relentless attacks and fatalities.
Educating the terrified residents and villagers on community support could strengthen the people resistance to drug traders and their allies.
The concerted private and public sector programs sponsoring social workers, religious leaders, political figures and news media can largely influence the society in defeating the forces behind the mayhem.
With the Mexican government commitment, citizens’ solidarity and the neighboring nations’ extended coordination in drug and guns crackdown, the prolific violence could be ended at its roots.
Mexico’s problem is a regional crisis and the law enforcement agencies’ formidable alliance is crucial in apprehending the perpetrators.
United States, Canada and Latin America bear equal responsibility in this regard.
Good Luck! To Mexico for peace and prosperity is on the horizon to relieve the people from their suffering.
Thank you.
