Ukraine – Donbas Russian Force

The latest move from Russian Federation authorizing Russian force claimed as peacekeepers in Donetsk and Luhansk in Donbas region, the situation in semblance with Crimea in 2014 is an unnecessary engagement.  Additionally, recognizing the two Ukrainian territories as free republics is counterproductive for Russia and importantly the standoff with NATO.

The Russian Federation while seeking NATO evacuation from eastern Europe, conducting these maneuvers on the sidelines in direct violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is least helpful for Russia. The activities declared as Russian outreach to ethnic Russians and pro-Russian separatists further exacerbate division and unrest in the volatile region.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin honoring Russia’s commitment stated in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) – the public press release on February 17, 2022 categorically stating on Russia’s position not to invade Ukraine.

“Moscow insists that there is no “Russian invasion” of Ukraine, nor are there any plans for one.”

However, the statements in public or private exemplified in action and maintained without wavering in stance ruling out any form of invasion and occupation of Ukraine including Donbas region – the eastern Ukraine is critical in negotiations on any agreements with NATO and Ukraine.

The issues in Donbas region – the eastern Ukraine is Ukrainian responsibility. The external interference from Russia, NATO or elsewhere would only foment violence and escalate tensions that are best avoided in the current environment.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev direct involvement with the separatists and other factions via peaceful dialogue and peacekeeping strategy would avert any requirement from neighboring Russia to intervene in Ukrainian affair.

Russia’s ability to contain any voluntary movement into Ukrainian territory would be beneficial and effective in protecting Russian security interests from NATO alliance in eastern Europe.

The NATO – Russia permanent peace deal will be presented in due course.
