India – Court Decisions on Political Scams

October 24, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Cash for Votes Congress Party representative Amar Singh accused in the subversion of Parliamentary System with bribes in the ‘No Confidence’ vote granted bail on ‘humanitarian ground.’

2G SpectrumCharges diluted with no opposition on bail from Central Bureau of Investigation under Congress Party against coalition partner DMK members implicated on 2G Telecommunication scandal noted as mother of scams.

Public and private threats to expose the true beneficiaries in both scams upon bail denial preceded the outcome and the ongoing development leading to leniency or bail approval for Congress party members and their affiliates.

Sad day for democracy when justice maneuvered with political clout and economic power.

The real justice is delivered through electoral mandate on the political party’s performance and integrity or the lack thereof in active democracy.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Libya – People Power Prevails in the Fall of Dictator Muammar Gaddafi

October 20, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Congratulations! To Libyan Revolution and the martyrs family on the demise and decimation of the brutal regime that wreaked havoc within and outside Libya under the global imperialists’ direct influence.

Fascism on the decline is the resounding message for the oppressors controlling the destiny of nearly 7 billion populations on earth.

Libyan revolution resolve and sacrifices ultimately led to liberation after decades of tyranny in the oil rich Libya.

Puppet dictators across the globe successfully suppressed political and economic freedom facilitating terror and violence dominance in the regions with rich natural resources and elsewhere for territorial conquest to reaffirm establishment.

World civilization brought to the brink of collapse by the nexus conglomerate with no regard for life or habitat underestimating the people power and revolutionary forces resilience, wisdom and vision in reclaiming sovereignty from the crumbling hegemony.

The fall of dictator Muammar Gaddafi shielded and protected all along by the leaderships in the international domain fear similar inevitable outcome although,

Conspicuously masqueraded by deceptive innuendoes to mislead and misrepresent the mass through controlled air power – communication media especially the television outlet.

Repeating failed tactics in anticipation for desirable outcome is the reflection of intelligence deficiency not to mention the desperate times seeking desperate measures upon facing the precipice.

Libyan revolution victory is an inspiration for people uprising not only in Syria, Iran, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Qatar…in the Middle East but also in Tibet, Burma, North Korea, Cuba, China and Italy…the à la carte authoritarianism transparent in denying individual rights.

Notwithstanding Palestinian statehood no longer remaining a far-fetched dream in the independence movement.

More dangerously the political system disguised as democracy depriving republic rule arguably is the contemporary challenge requiring unified resistance and consolidated efforts to achieve the common goal – political, economic and social fairness and equality.

Muammar Gaddafi’s death is ominous for delusional presumptuous powers with an opportunity to exit in dignity avoiding humiliating departure and poignantly,

Marking the beginning of the end of violent era.

People empowerment through peace and non-violence is indomitable against aggression with the powerful abusing the position of authority for exclusive interest.

Peace activists and environmentalists worldwide are relentlessly engaged in restoring human rights, liberty and safe environment for all inhabitants despite formidable opposition from various sources.

Libya is about to begin a new chapter in history having triumphed trials and tribulations in national emancipation.

The mission ahead for Libya is to cherish the hard fought freedom by honoring and protecting citizens’ rights in every part of the country combined with solidarity in preventing puppet regimes governance.

It is imperative to deter any factions’ infiltration aimed at sabotaging peaceful existence.

Good Luck! To Libyan republic and National Transitional Council of Libya headed by President Mustafa Abdul Jalil, Vice President Abdul Hafiz Ghoga and Interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril in nation building premised on progressive ideas and philosophy without disinheriting the rich cultural heritage of the land.

Best Wishes to the people of Libya in the commitment for long lasting peace, progress and prosperity leading other nations in North Africa.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Global Revolution – Occupy Wall Street

October 18, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Citizens organized revolution is sweeping across the globe to deliver a strong message demanding action from political and corporate leaderships responsible for the economic recession worsening by the day.

Occupy Wall Street protests have been peaceful and non-violent thus far with the exception of the isolated incident in Rome, Italy,

Presumably anti-Occupy Wall Street infiltration considering the denigration via television on the worldwide movement as aimless demonstration.

Occupy Wall Street is not against capitalism as purported by Wall Street and government surrogates.

Market economy based on supply and demand with opportunity for every aspiring entrepreneur to succeed in the respective domain allowing competition among various businesses for price and quality control is the viable economic synthesis in any political system – republic governed democracy in particular benefitting both consumers and proprietorships at all times.

Unlike the current economic structure facilitating industry monopoly through acquisitions and mergers as witnessed in the Telecommunication, Technology, Pharmaceutical and Financial sectors…endangering consumer choices and free market enterprise.

Highlighting on the contentious issues –

The status quo is attributed to redefined capitalism i.e.

Corporate governance eliminating republic rule with legislations passed in sole interest of the corporations ensuring bailouts upon default in addition to diverting profits for executive bonuses regardless of performance.

Capitalizing on the manufactured economic woes with exploitation being the modus operandi enabling 1% powerful minority prosperity at the remaining 99% majority peril.

Under globalization market expansion into developing nations has empowered corporations to influence political dynamics generating instability, civil wars and economic inequality along with social unrest and environmental disaster.

Military industrial complex maintained defense industry philosophy is profitability at the death and destruction of innocent lives with wars conducted around the world in perpetuity for political and economic dominance.

Individual freedom and sovereignty threatened with military might and economic deprivation promoting fascism.

Authoritarianism disguised as democracy – Hard line approach under the pretext of law and order is increasingly becoming the norm especially during peaceful assembly of citizens against –

Corruption and cronyism,

Tax evasions with black money hoarded in Swiss bank accounts and other tax havens transferring the astronomical national debt to the 99% population widening the gulf between the rich and poor.

Grand impunity to political and corporate leaderships’ criminal conduct.

Notwithstanding election fraud and constitution subversion,

Illegal occupation and foreign invasion denying fairness, peace and diplomacy in conflict resolutions.

Last but not the least defying nature and planet sustenance with detrimental energy policies such as drilling, mining and nuclear radiation.

Further, air power media bias and clamor used as ammunition to quell dissent with distortion, propaganda and caricatures to malign truth incarcerating whistle blowers in the so-called democratic societies run by oligarchy.

Global revolution focus is to reinstate republic rule with democratic values exemplified in  political freedom, independence, economic progress and social equality for all.

Occupy Wall Street is global phenomenon for universal cause and determined to prevail under peaceful and non-violent popular uprising for political, economic and social reform to protect life on earth.

Republics around the world are requested to build momentum in the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ solidarity to establish world peace and justice.

Please “Reclaim your rights as citizens of the free world’ and,

‘Save the Planet’the only habitat for life.

Peace to all

Thank you.

UN – Palestinian Statehood Resolution

September 27, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

During the United Nations General Assembly 66th Session last week,

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas submitted the plea for Statehood and full UN membership as the sovereign state on behalf of 10,900,000 Palestinians in Palestine, the Arab region and the rest of the world combined in an effort to end the freedom struggle.

Palestinian citizens have been seeking sovereignty over six decades with recognition from more than 122 countries earlier and a significant number now affirming solidarity behind long overdue Palestinian independence.

Israeli-Palestinian conflict arising from Israeli occupation and settlements expansion along with checkpoints and barrier wall construction in Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem has exacerbated peace talks defaulting to Israeli military aggression and Hamas rocket firing with civilian casualties on both sides diminishing peace prospects.

Furthermore, Israel being the United States strongest ally and the largest military as well as monetary aid recipient overwhelmingly favored by the benefactor – United States in the so-called peace process.

Negotiations thus far have failed with United States obliging Israel’s position under security pretext while allowing rapid settlements growth in the occupied Palestinian land fomenting justified anger and frustration among beleaguered Palestinians.

United States open declaration to veto resolution on Palestinian Statehood claiming the move unilateral confirms the bias maintained all along with Whitehouse and U.S. Congress rejection of UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict by Justice Richard Goldstone in 2009 and Freedom Flotilla 2010 –

The sworn allegiance to the all powerful Israel especially in clear violation of international laws has adversely affected peace dialogue in the otherwise resolvable dispute.

Israel and United States objection over Palestinian approach through United Nations for statehood is self-contradictory considering the precedence in Israeli Statehood originating from British Mandate of Palestine in 1947 evolving into –

The newly set up UN organization approval of the Palestine Partition Plan (United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181) on 29 November 1947 dividing the nation into two states viz. Arab and Jewish despite Arab disagreement then against the imposition.

Subsequently on May 14, 1948 the World Zionist Organization Executive Head and Palestine Jewish Agency President – David Ben-Gurion proclaimed Israel independence on the day before the British mandate expiration.  Soon after David Ben-Gurion became Israel’s first Prime Minister.

Since Israel emergence – the UN majority member states through numerous resolutions have disapproved Israel’s territorial incursions, the continuous settlements in West Bank and military invasions, administration and laws on East Jerusalem – illegal and invalid.

In terms of the present United Nations Security Council resolution on the pertinent issue – granting statehood to Palestine in semblance to UN General Assembly Resolution 181 in the establishment of Israel,

United States opposition to Palestinian request is subjugation on the Palestinian population and a major setback for modern democratic society representing the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

United States could play a positive role in Israel and Palestine’s common interest with the UNSC vote without threatening to jeopardize history in making.

United Kingdom following suit would be a great opportunity in reparation of the incomplete British Mandate for Palestine enabling a new dimension to the status quo.

Besides, the liberal partner in the current coalition UK government has a unique moment to fulfill the pledge to restore human rights and freedom on and offshore in the crucial UNSC vote for Palestinian statehood.

France backing Palestinian statehood at the UN General Assembly 66th session could be exemplified in action with the vote that would pronounce the European commitment to liberty and democracy.

Russia having cast the vote for the two-state solution on pre 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital is a formidable peacemaker in the monumental UN resolution.

China’s vote at the Security Council for Palestinian cause would define the relations with Middle East and Islamic nations in Central Asia and Africa given the emerging economy’s energy dependent status not excluding the anticipated export demand.

Understandably, Israel and Palestinian authorities have relevant concerns over issues similar to the events in the aftermath of Israel establishment.

Although the situation now contrast with the circumstances then with few exceptions, it is necessary to consider the factors for smooth transitioning and long lasting peace.

Israel highlighted on security, borders, Arab world accepting Israel sovereignty and the right to return for residency.

Security Israel being the nuclear nation together with United States providing nuclear, military and logistic capabilities are indomitable forces in the region dispelling the myth about security matter.

Poignantly, Palestinian emancipation would preoccupy the citizens in nation building and renew trade relation with Israel preventing unnecessary intrusion from fundamentalism or anti-Semitism that would mean anti-Palestinian growth.

Border – Per unanimous consensus among UN member states and United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, which underscores –

“The inadmissibility of the territory acquisition by war”,

Hence incumbent upon Israel to withdraw from occupied territories in exchange for normal dealings with Arab partners based on the “Land for peace” policy.

Accordingly, territories claimed in 1967 Six-Day War by Israel will be returned i.e. West Bank (Judaea and Samaria), East Jerusalem, the Gaza strip to Palestine and the Golan Heights to Syria respectively.

Retaining the traditional demarcations of the Old City in Jerusalem into the Muslim Quarter, the Jewish Quarter, the Christian Quarter and the Armenian Quarter,

With due reverence to all religions  – Judaism, Islam, Bahá’í and Christianity in the Holy city of Jerusalem:

In the Israeli controlled Old City comprising the Western Wall and the Temple Mount,

The Western Wall and only the Jewish place of worship at the Temple Mount would be assigned as the Jewish territory.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre also known as the Church of the Resurrection – important to Christians near Muristan in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem to assume the specific religious designation without infringement from other religions.

However, the Old City with Al Aqsa Mosque located on the far southern side of the Temple Mount facing the Holy Mecca and the Dome of the Rock in the middle sacred to Islam and the Muslim community site, Waqf would be part of the Palestinian territory.

Israeli government enforced controversial ban on prayer by non-Muslim visitors at the site creating false perception is to be lifted for religious and communal harmony.

Israel sovereignty:  Reiterating the ‘Land for peace’ premise, Arab recognition of Israel sovereignty is directly linked to Israel honoring Palestinian statehood under the defined goals.

The trend reversal from chaos to calmness rests on reciprocation for bilateral and regional peace.

Right to Return: Palestinian diaspora – the refugees in Jordan, Syria, Iraq and across the Middle East in particular, return to post-independent Palestine could be reinstated as Palestinian citizens in Palestinian territory.

They could perhaps be economic migrants expediting productivity and development in Gaza – the coastal strip having experienced the ill effects of warfare.

Simultaneously, immigration laws applicable for entry into Israel and vice versa unless a bilateral agreement is entered between Palestinian and Israeli governments to promote education, business and tourism through special visa for neighbors.

The contentious issues from the Palestinian side are – Israeli occupation, settlements expansion, check posts and borders.

Repeating the process from 2005 in Gaza Complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and settlers in addition to dismantling check posts from all Palestinian territories is required in compliance with UN resolution on Palestinian statehood.

Any violation in this regard would constitute breach of international treaty with economic sanctions, freezing bank accounts and diplomatic ties, travel restrictions and denying aviation, marine and ground access as consequences to rejecting peace accord.

Israeli-Palestinian crisis has prolonged over decades in averting peace rather than confrontation with intransigence prevailing over reason.

The loss of precious lives in Palestine and Israel could no longer be in vain and Palestinian citizens approach UN General Assembly in trust and hope for formal identity with their native land.

United Nations Security Council and General Assembly members are once again entrusted with the humanitarian task of ending people suffering identical to UNGA action in 1948 towards Israel.

Palestine will be born again with global endorsement for statehood at the United Nations,

Israel could share the inevitable peace and progress as a reliable ally and innovative partner leading the region and the rest of the world in all frontiers.

Permanent resolution to Israeli Palestinian dispute is within grasp and procrastination is evidently detrimental to world security reverting to cyclical violence.

Israel and Palestine have been burying their future – the youth caught in the crossfire.

It is time to ceasefire in settlement for a new beginning.

Best Wishes and Good Luck! To Palestine and Israel for successful two-state coexistence in peace.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

UN General Assembly – 66th Session 2011

September 24, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Warm Greetings! To Honorable leaders and dignitaries from different parts of the world currently attending the United Nations 66th Session in New York.

Since the last session, the bright and gloomy forecasts on global events from political, economic, social, educational, environmental, humanitarian to ethical matter are thought provoking with substantive actions required to address the prevalent crises and achievements thus far.

It would be appropriate to begin with economy being the major concern in the international domain.

The aim is to provide synopsis in this presentation with comprehensive layout to follow for G-20 and global markets in a separate submission.

The common syndromes in the slow economic growth among the industrialized nations are debt and possible credit default.

United States and Europe share the budget and deficit related problems prompting austerity and necessary tax hikes against the wealthiest,

Besides higher unemployment, lower GDP, currency effects and investment choices delaying economic revival.

In other regions – Russia expanding oil exports to Asia and bilateral trades utilizing the geographic vantage all around.

Asia viz. China and Japan as primary US debt holders, closely monitoring the U.S. fiscal policy and economy.

With overseas exports under pressure, China’s focus is on domestic demand.

India’s efforts are on inflation and growth sustenance.  However, government commitment required in affordability reaching the lowest economic strata to bridge the enlarged disparity.

Other Asian economies are adapting to normal range stimulated by regional trade, while adjusting to U.S and Europe performance.

Africa and Latin America – Transnational trade and overseas investments facilitating economic activities with developmental obstacles experienced along the way from political and social dynamics.

Middle East – Political transformations briefly interrupted oil production and economic functions in the region.  Nonetheless the pace is returning post-political upheaval gaining momentum to restore supply and demand.

Politics – Middle East attracts attention with Arab Spring revolutions leading to long overdue evolution at the martyrs and survivors remarkable sacrifices in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya whereas Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman and Qatar yet to be liberated from the prolonged authoritarianism.

The political uprisings suppressed with violence only delegitimize the ruling power with the heads of the state futile determination to overcome the inevitable change across the Middle East and elsewhere.

Instead the leaderships honoring the popular will with peaceful transitioning of power to people for democratic rule would avoid unnecessary aftermath ordeal witnessed among deposed leaders in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.

Iraq under Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki government is confronted with explosions and sectarian violence hindering economic activity. Iraq is a secular nation in requirement of national leadership and government that is inclusive not exclusive to reach the milestones in every aspect.  Security is compromised with violence attributed to the presence of U.S and allies troops in the beleaguered nation.

PalestinePalestinian President Mahmoud Abbas direct plea to the United Nations for statehood and individual membership is legitimate approach given the biased and unsuccessful peace talks in the form of negotiations over decades has exacerbated the two states solutions gradually converted to one state proposition under United States strongest ally and the militarily powerful Israel,

Ignoring Palestinian dissent against Israeli occupation and settlements expansion in Palestine State – Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Also not to mention the loss of precious lives on both sides caused by intransigence in the otherwise resolvable dispute demonstrating genuine empathy and rationality.

The recognition sought on 1967 borders by Palestinian citizens is valid and the United Nations overwhelming acknowledgment could potentially expedite the much anticipated political independence and sovereignty for Palestine with the established State of Israel co-existing in peace.

Palestine statehood in-depth discussion will follow the UN address.

Egypt: Post revolution developments in Egypt under the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces fall short of expectations and unfortunately not delivered the promises on many issues.

No election scheduled for transfer of power to Egypt republic.

Supreme Council appointing governors and provincial heads representing the military rather than being elected from the mainstream.

Again government staff selected within the army depriving the Main Street from public service.

Imposed restrictions on freedom of speech, human rights and independent press and media access…reminiscent of the predecessor hardline governance to remain in power.

Egypt freedom struggle is not over until civilian rule is established in 2011. Egypt revolution might have to repeat the earlier peaceful and non-violent political resurgence to implement the realistic change.

Tunisia: Tunisian political stability is largely dependent on economic growth – trade prospects with other nations could ease the burden on the North African nation.

Asia:

Japan: Japan’s high premiership turnover and political alternation at frequent intervals contributes to economic uncertainties with a direct impact on the global economy.

The trend reversal could be reassuring and promote national recovery from the devastating natural disaster and the nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.

China – Turbulence in international relations is a distraction for the world’s largest manufacturer and the emerging economic power.  China could play an important role in balanced trade and foster strong strategic ties with neighbors for multilateral benefit.

Tibet Congratulations! To Lobsang Sangay – New Prime Minister of Tibet’s government in-exile on the extraordinary feat with great vision for the Buddhist nation.  The imminent independence from Mainland China as part of the political sea change worldwide would conclude Tibet’s freedom struggle.

Korean Peninsula – Peaceful exchange between North and South with probable unification in the near future would strengthen the fragile relation eliminating military interactions.

ASEAN Members – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia. Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, VietNam – Solidarity is the key factor in the renewed economic goals reflected in the survival of the global recession.

Myanmar – The future lies with National League for Democracy under Aung San Suu Kyi leadership replacing the Military Junta oppression.

Singapore – Conforming to twenty first century political system with democratic values would enhance the island nation’s accomplishments in all dimensions.

MalaysiaPrime Minister Najib Razak pledge for a mature, modern and functioning democracy preserving public order without infringement upon civil liberty and racial harmony is welcome and,

Furthermore repealing laws such as the Internal Security Act (ISA), the Emergency Ordinance allowing government detention without trial, media censorship via license restriction and forbidding public assembly – set forth the nation on the progressive path.

Indian Sub-Continent – India and Pakistan

The nuclear neighbors peace initiatives are often disrupted with terror attacks on Indian soil.

Simultaneously Pakistan is also the target for the terror networks in the country under constant shelling with bomb blasts on the ground and U.S. drones from aerial assault notwithstanding calamities like flooding rendering existence merely impossible.

Remedial strategies could begin with Pakistan delineating the intelligence agency ISI and the military to the relevant job operations with no interference in civilian rule.

Any objection from these two powerful institutions would clarify the need to exercise the civilian authority in retaining the personnel committed to national interest and removing those submitted to personal and/or external sources whether they are terrorist organization or foreign power.

It is imperative for India and Pakistan to withstand any foreign pressure or intervention with the intention to create permanent tension for vested interests like territorial incursions and arms supply triggering the blood river on both sides.

Instead both nations moving forward with full-fledged diplomacy resuming trade relations, cultural exchange and disclosure on terror plots along with cross-interrogation of terror suspects on either side would reinforce mutual trust and cooperation.

India and Pakistan bilateral relationship is significant to alleviate poverty, hunger and disease prevalent in both countries.  Divestments from defense to economic and social development would be substantially positive.

Sri Lanka Dominating the headlines for the worst crimes against humanity in the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Tamils by denying human rights in modern times is not only regrettable but also deeply reprehensible.

Sri Lankan President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces – Mahinda Rajapaksa implicated for authorizing the inhumane executions of unarmed men, women and children calls for international investigation and prosecution to condemn the state sponsored violence against own nationals.

Sri Lankan Tamils have been alienated without political, economic and social opportunity driving the islands minority to the point of no return after having economically prospered from the exploitation of the same groups since the British Raj mobilization within the Indian sub-continent.

It is a moment of reflection seeking reparable action through reconciliation with equal status to uplift the marginalized ethnic demography.

Meanwhile leaderships forging ties with states like Sri Lanka and Myanmar foment abuse of power undermining democracy they represent in the new millennium.

Bangladesh – The controversial water distribution between Bangladesh and West Bengal, India could be amicably settled deriving common use of resources for the vast population survival.

Nepal – The communist infiltration subsequent to monarchy dissolution is proved detrimental to the nation in the Himalayan foothills with the influence reaching across North Eastern India.

China, Cuba and North Korea are prominent examples of the system with citizens plight conspicuous to worldview.

Bhutan – The Himalayan kingdom emerging from the recent earthquake is offered necessary assistance to contain casualties. Politically the existing Parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy could pave way to republic-governed democracy in synchrony with other democracies in the region and the world.

Africa – Sudan split into two nations with South Sudan controlling the oil fields and North Sudan in possession of refineries and distribution output.

The sensitive location – the oil rich Abyei is due for referendum in this partition to choose between Muslim North and Christian South with Darfur in the largest African nation having paid the price in the civil war.

Most African nations have dealt with the ramifications of civil war erupting from religious discord, economic woes and poignantly disagreements on electoral outcome in Kenya and Ivory Coast…are urged to invest in peace and unity to guide Africa towards pervasive tranquility and prosperity.

Latin America – The economic upsurge in Brazil, Argentina and Peru serve as the model for other nations in Latin America.  The public and private sector collaboration notably produced the desirable growth rate. Political leaderships in Latin America are adopting innovative approach to solve unique problems.

War on drugs in Mexico and Columbia is consuming enormous resources that could be invested in life betterment.

Education in concurrence with law enforcement could bring relief in curtailing drug consumption,

Pacific Islands: Being the primary victim of natural catastrophes,

Environmental protection is the predominant request to the industrialized, developed and developing nations,

Tourism depended economies in these areas are adversely affected from environmental damage.

Global society support to the environmental cause would be universally beneficial.

Western Nations advancements could be emulated where applicable without disinheriting the individual cultural heritage.

Global Security and Warfare: Ending wars and curtailing violence across the globe would guarantee peace and security with non-violence, peace and diplomacy substituting the status quo.

Environment: Off shore and shallow water drilling, Coal mining, Mountain top removal, Nuclear power plants are pursued with government permission irrespective of the fossil fuel and nuclear contamination endangering life on earth.

It is critical to pause and review the adversarial effects of these options in due respect to the environment and successive generation.

Humanitarian Issues: Women, Gay Community, Transgender Citizens, Ethnic minorities, children and anyone perceived as weak and vulnerable fall prey to religious, social and state victimization.

Activism to dispel ignorance using technology would immensely safeguard citizens’ rights across the spectrum.

Ethical Matter: Combating corruption, retrieving black money and tax evaded funds…apart from institutionalizing transparency and accountability without prejudice and preferential treatment in the society is monumental step towards character building invoking compassion, selflessness, credibility and patriotism.

All are created equal and therefore None are above the law.

Finally, United Nations Security Council – Permanent membership reconfiguration accepting Japan, India, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, South Africa, Norway and Germany would categorically signify the UN as the international organization with diverse ideas and resolutions to global crises.

On that optimistic note,

Best Wishes and success in all endeavors to nations around the world.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

India – Anti-Corruption Action and Evasion

September 8, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Subsequent to Jan Lokpal  (anti-corruption) bill adoption in the Parliament on August 28, 2011, the actions against corruption has escalated but only limiting to those individuals considered expendable or sacrificial worthy.

Otherwise the top guns actually behind the monumental corruption scandals from 2G Spectrum to cash for votes scam are conveniently spared for political and economic reasons allowing politics to undermine judicial process in a democracy.

However, the Supreme Court decisions on the latest charges against head of the State in Tamil Nadu on disproportionate assets case and the Delhi High Court move towards Members of Parliament in cash for votes maintain judiciary function and constitutional requirement to uphold judicial system fair and equal for all in a democratic society.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) expeditious apprehension of illegal mining barons – the Reddy brothers – Janardhana Reddy and Karunakara Reddy, the former state legislators in the opposition BJP led government under ex-Chief Minister Yeddyurappa in Karnataka was long overdue considering their alliance with the then Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy of the Congress State government in Andhra Pradesh.

Again CBI under Central government control could be more effective in timely investigation and appropriate delivery without ruling power maneuver to suit political agenda.

Such anomalies prompted the civil society call to de-link CBI’s anti-corruption wing from government and brought under Jan Lokpal to improve efficacy as the national investigative authority especially involving political members with conflict of interest.

In other developments, Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh’s assets declaration is praiseworthy and clearly sets the motion for high profile as well as rank and file to follow suit within and across the aisle.

Congress Party Leaderships – Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and son Mr. Rahul Gandhi notwithstanding daughter Priyanka Vadra and key cabinet ministers assets have not been presented thus far.

Anti-corruption measures without black money and tax recovery does not fulfill the core objectives to curb fraud and eliminate absconding capability among the powerful and influential in the society.

For any political party to proclaim sacrosanct with counterproductive remarks viz. ‘salacious and spicy’ on factual findings in the cash for votes is blatant evasion of responsibility in the highest order.

In this context, it would be honorable for political parties to transcend hierarchy in set ting precedence for public scrutiny and thorough independent inquiry on all dealings and undertakings evidently depriving national income and compromising credibility including image as the emerging economic power.

Besides, the privileged class impropriety on national issues from political and economic to social and environmental matter confirms double standards with judiciary and law enforcement rendered defunct for those in power while exceeding protocol against mainstream and political targets in the haphazard effort to establish transparency and accountability.

The government’s recent escapade against team Anna members with the so-called privileged notices served on the individuals along with politically motivated allegations reaffirm the urgent need to downsize the misused political clout subverting Parliamentary role in national affairs and intimidation to suppress constitutional rights on free speech.

Members of Parliament objection to team Anna or any citizens’ demand for checks and balances in national policies or the lack thereof found detrimental to the country they are elected to serve reveals the inherent resistance to dismantle corruption built-in political structure.

The existing rule barring non-Parliamentary access to remove implicated members of Parliament during their term in office facilitates corruption culture considering the prerogative seldom utilized by other MP’s fearing political backlash and exposure to their possible share of similar involvements.

Hence fighting corruption could be meaningful when political parties begin with their domain and get the house in order prior to implementing strategies to deflect probe against the main protagonists in all major national unscrupulous unethical events undermining democracy.

For instance – in 2G Spectrum trial – Political bargain between UPA and DMK led to DMK MPs A. Raja and Kanimozhi in prison.

In order to demonstrate equal application of law in a sovereign nation, subjecting the then Finance Minister P.Chidambaram, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh, Congress Party Leader Sonia Gandhi and,

Not excluding the ministers associated in any manner with Spectrum controversy from the oppositions regardless of contemporary view would clarify the constitutionality in determining none are above the law in a democratic society.

From the economic sector – the industrialists Mr. Anil Ambani and Mr. J.R.D.Tata as beneficiaries in the lucrative Spectrum contract resulting in phenomenal loss of revenue to national exchequer in the deliberate rejection to auction the government tangible asset favoring corporate donors against national interest,

Mr. Mukesh Ambani is also cited in direct violation of laws of land……

Commonwealth Games – Mr. Suresh Kalmadi presented as the prim facie with the drag net consisting other members from the Congress Party like the Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit, Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi, Congress Party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi…granted impunity against interrogation or legal

Cash for Votes – Although the government guided CBI arrested Mr. Amar Singh, the former member of Samajwadi party in Rajya Sabha, the proceedings beyond Mr. Amar Singh presumably acting at the Congress Party luminaries’ behest based on the real benefit to UPA in Confidence Vote survival on July 22, 2008 would exemplify the judiciary power withstanding political pressure in the republic of India.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh, Congress Party Leader Sonia Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi (reportedly for active participation in alluring MP’s from opposition with Cash) is a serious engagement for a national political party and warrants necessary attention from the highest court on land.

Bofors Scandal – Mr. Ottavio Quattrocchi, Italian businessman and a close ally of Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi and the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi accused as the broker in India’s one of the largest scandal acquitted without trial through political influence over CBI.

CBI obliging the Congress leader’s instructions withdrew Mr. Ottavio Quattrocchi’s name from the wanted list and further appealed to Interpol to withdraw the 12 year old red flag against Mr. Quattrocchi

Delhi High Court discharged Mr. Quattrocchi from the case on March 4, 2011.

Mr. Ottavio Quattrocchi extradition was repeatedly mishandled with Indian government failure to obtain court order required for Mr. Quattrocchi’s arrest and the extradition case was lost with no appeal filed and the reason attributed to the delay in obtaining official English translation of the court order.

Reopening Bofors chapter would be instrumental in restoring justice across the political and socio-economic helm profiting from national resources at taxpayers’ cost with the trend continuing until now.

Concurrently, it is poignant to revisit the Bhopal disaster verdict seeking the Union Carbide CEO Warren M. Anderson’s extradition from the United States and review the indicted executive’s plea last year.

Mr. Anderson sought leniency on health grounds in 2010 claiming that the 91 years old diagnosed with terminal cancer had barely three months to live and in exchange for court appearance offered an apology via live video to Bhopal victims of national tragedy.

Accordingly in observance with the Indian tradition and court considerations on age and health factor, pragmatic approach in accepting Mr. Anderson’s apology admitting negligence in the biggest industrial catastrophe transpired at that time.

The victims families were requested to forgive Mr. Anderson upon his recognition and remorse for the Bhopal incident causing immense suffering to the survivors.

Mr. Warren Anderson was not vindicated from the horrendous industrial mishap and a year later in the absence of televised apology or ailments; the disingenuous submission from the accused necessitates extradition revival alongside individuals complicit in the crisis mismanagement.

Sadly, the widespread moral decay prioritizing personal gains despite collective damages precipitates crimes evolving into conflicts with no end in sight.  The mistrust against governments largely emanates from abuse of power for self-interest.

Moral Science is mandatory in educational curriculum worldwide to cultivate the importance of ethical conduct in life.  The art of deception, falsehood and betrayal promoting aggression inhibits courage imperative for honesty graduating into nobility.

Morality is the barometer indicating the character strength vital for life with peace and dignity.

Unfortunately, leaderships in politics, economics and other discipline concentrate on survival in the fiercely competitive conditions harboring acrimony than harmony to retain power or ownership for exclusive prosperity.

Actions or Karma is investment with positive and negative returns depending on the deeds with a stark reminder to refrain from recurring mistakes – in particular immoral behavior in obedience to the conscience providing moral guidance since birth until death.

Life is a learning experience teaching lessons to prevent the point of no return.

In light of prevalent violence and volatility, nations could institutionalize ethics and morality combined with transparency and accountability for both public and private sector.

Strong emphasis on patriotism, community service and humanitarian tasks would spread peace deterring constant turmoil across the globe.

Inspiring young and old to be caring and compassionate towards the needy and vulnerable lives would highly improve the general habitat.

Reverting to Indian political dynamic with corruption having macro impact on the society, the leaderships’ candid disclosure ranging from own financial status to economic policies, contracts and agreements could vastly contribute to better relations between the government and people.

Judiciary accelerating the relevant hearing on numerous corruptions extending preferential treatment to none irrespective of stature would enhance democratic values promising a bright and secure future.

India has the potential to be the beacon light in the twenty first century and eradicating corruption with strict adherence to laws is paramount to initiate sound democratic principles bound by ethics in the post independent era.

Good Luck! To citizens of India in recovering national wealth.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

Libya – Revolution Victory

September 4, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

People led revolution in Libya is on the path to liberating the North African nation from tyranny and oppression lasting more than four decades.

Libyan uprising that began in February 2011 has been through a fierce battle with at least 50,000 martyrs and many innocent lives lost to gain control of Tripoli – the capital under siege until the recent development enabling anti-Gaddafi forces to take control of the beleaguered nation.

It has been an ordeal demanding resilience, perseverance and sacrifices to reach the milestone marking a significant achievement in Libyan history.

Libyan citizens having suffered enormously in terms of casualties are able to see the light at the end of the tunnel making remarkable progress in their march to freedom.

After prolonged deliberation to global citizens’ request on ‘No-Fly Zone,’ humanitarian aid and sanctions against the fallen leader Muammar Gaddafi and family in Libya,

The UN Security Council certain resolutions supplemented the actions against the embattled government emboldened after nearly being ousted in the earlier peaceful demonstration against them.

Otherwise the initial non-violent citizens movement evolved into a full-scale civil war with military intervention and use of ammunitions in the Libyan pro-democracy struggle.

Subsequent to revolutionaries’ momentum in March 2011,

The considerably weakened Libyan leadership seeking political refuge in Venezuela was strengthened through external influence over the heir apparent now a fugitive – Saif al-Islam Gaddafi vowed to a bloodbath in the aftermath of people power success with a stronghold in Eastern Libya capturing Benghazi and prompting National Transitional Council formation.

Furthermore NATO and U.S. clearly expressed intentions against removal of Gaddafi along with delayed strategy in eliminating Gaddafi controlled air power on military and communication capability escalated atrocities in the protracted warfare.

Additionally, NATO mishaps targeting civilians and freedom fighters were demoralizing and fortunately the revolution’s resolve throughout confrontation maintained focus on the mission.

Nonetheless NATO and U.S later effort in protecting civilians through selective demolitions of regime installations procured from defense supplies influx into Libya prior to political unrest provided some relief to the combat zone.

Evidently, the close ties between MI6, the CIA and Libyan intelligence during Gaddafi power solidified oppressive rule allowing direct access to oil resources to western interests.

In the post Gaddafi era, the National Transitional Council decision to reject international military presence in Libya is wise and building solidarity among Libyan population could be instrumental in regaining sovereignty lost during repressive leadership with foreign intrusion.

Tribal forces willing to surrender to National Transitional Council authority could be conditionally accepted upon returning weapon stockpiles in their possession and assistance in apprehending the overthrown leader Muammar Gaddafi and most importantly Saif al-Islam still remaining at large.

NTC peaceful alliance with tribal segments would deter resurgence from Gaddafi and loyalists facilitating unified Libya.

It is crucial for National Transitional Council to bring all factions together in republic interest while being cautious delineating ideology driven infiltration within revolution.

Western powers involvement limited to humanitarian services and nation building through mutual trade benefits with democratic Libya could promote better relations and iron out mistrust given the Western-Middle Eastern trajectory.

Politically independent Libya could transcend nationality treating immigrant workers from Africa and elsewhere humanely in the pro-Gaddafi mercenary role investigation.

Perhaps segregating the genuine labor groups from those hired by the dictatorship would ease the burden on the judicial process and prevent prison overcrowding in the country with immediate infrastructure repair and rebuilding requirement.

Twenty first century Libya inviting women in active governance would accelerate anticipated growth bridging the inequality gap in social and economic sectors besides sustaining law and order in the crimes against women.

Marginalized demography could be uplifted with fair opportunity in political, economic and social domain.

Restoring essential utility provisions like electricity, clean water and proper sanitary conditions to avoid spread of disease are imperative for efficient functioning unlike the obstacles experienced in post Saddam Hussein Iraq causing public frustration over basic inconvenience.

Protecting national security, natural environment and oil fields are the priority for the new government with people participation through democratic elections in reasonable timeframe again not replicating Egypt in the power transition.

Indeed a glorious moment for all Libyans especially the victims having endured persecution and patriots in their determination to deliver free Libya with promising future.

Congratulations! To people of Libya, foot soldiers including the Army command,

Chairman of National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil and NTC members,

For the heroic commitment to national liberty,

NATO, United States, Arab League and international community for the logistic and humanitarian support.

International Criminal Court for indictments against the former head of Libya Muammar Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam and family on human rights violation and abuse of power in the crimes against humanity.

Hopefully, ICC proceedings will be carried out in a timely manner for efficacy of an international body set up to promote justice.

Best Wishes to Libyan republic for peaceful and bright beginning extending beyond the horizon.

Peace to all!

Thank you.

India – Jan Lokpal Legislation Victory

August 27, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

It is exhilarating to witness People power prevail in a democracy.

With more challenges ahead, citizens’ experiences in daily life due to political and social ill practices cannot be ignored having greater impact on the society’s core functionality.

Hence it is imperative to reflect on the course in Jan Lokpal arduous journey that led to republic legitimacy.

The traumatic path to Jan Lokpal legislation could have been resolved in a timely manner.

Starting with the government initial decision to reject Jan Lokpal –

It did not surprise the nation especially the victims of corruption, cronyism and nepotism rampant in politics and economic sector.

The setbacks during the popular Jan Lokpal passage deserve national attention.

It was clear that political establishment was not prepared to honor the republic will and subverting Parliamentary process to protect the respective political and personal agenda.

Today, the Parliamentarians are steadfast in claiming that the citizens in democracy must respect the Parliament system, democratic institution and constitution  – when none of them would be relevant without the republic.

As asserted by the political power and their emissaries, the civil society has not encroached upon the Parliamentary procedures, constitution or the democratic institution’s sanctity.

In fact, the Parliamentarian precedence evolving into a tradition among the political class in direct violation of all these institutions evident in the members’ explosive corruption scandals and political baggage contributed to the birth of Jan Lokpal bill.

Parliament in contemporary politics is considered exclusive to the legislators barring citizens’ voice in the policy making directly affecting the common man in corruption crippled society largely emanating from the lawmakers upholding them above the law.

If the legislators were to abide by the same constitution and Parliamentary rule in respect for democracy the status quo would be envy of the world and Shri Anna Hazare’s crusade been fruitful without Satyagraha viz. fasting.

Beginning with Jan Lokpal bill – the opponents condemned civil society as impatient, disrespectful and pressuring the honorable Parliamentarians on Jan Lokpal bill.

The reality being – Jan Lokpal legislation had been requested with utter reverence for the Parliament, constitution and democratic rule of law in hope and extraordinary patience over four decades only to be declined and distorted as intervention with Parliamentary affairs.

Any reasonable mind would detect the glaring differences between civil society and political powers approach on national issue i.e. corruption debilitating human conditions on the main street,

Not to mention the national treasury drained with the widening gulf in economic disparity dragging the disadvantaged to the streets which was denigrated as Street Politics.

Again the government tactics since Shri Anna Hazare revived the plea on this issue was loud and clear – protecting the corruption culture embedded in the political system.

The political class and their supporters ought to rewind the episodes related to anti-corruption rally and,

Compare civil society adherence to law against the government’s iron-fist crack down on peaceful participants showing no mercy on the civilians with the only intention being to disperse and demolish the anti-corruption movement for obvious reasons that prolonged Shri Anna Hazare’s fasting until positive outcome.

On the disrespectful conduct – Introspection would reveal the unsubstantiated corruption charges, character defamation eventually ending in unlawful arrests of 74 years old Gandhian by the ruling authority.

The rest of the team persistently targeted and jailed for lending their support to anti-corruption law.

Some Parliamentarians and surrogates denounce the civil society initiative to legislate Jan Lokpal as interference in Parliamentary role taking no responsibility for their dismissal of people suffering.

Democratic societies around the world pass laws addressing citizens’ social, economic and political problems flowing in from people through their representatives or petitions and more commonly as a last resort in street protest or demonstrations to government’s disregard for their miseries.

Civil rights ranging from women’s right to vote, anti-dowry act, invalidating outcasts custom…and many social injustices – the people bring the matter to the Parliament and Congressional focus for legislation.

Then it becomes incumbent upon the legislators as the elected representatives to respect and resolve the issues in public and national interest.

Therefore, the political powers position towards Jan Lokpal as an intrusion in Parliament procedure was deficient in humility and neglectful in Parliamentary duty towards their constituents and the country.

The lawmakers’ self-assigned privileged status with grand impunity against criminal activities in national detriment is contradictory to the Parliament, constitutional and democratic values only enforced upon the law-abiding civil society.

Regarding the government’s proposal in elevating Lokpal as a constitutional body in semblance to Electoral commission is symbolic rather than pragmatic for the measures eventually require Parliamentary legislation to contain unlawful activities undermining democracy.

For instance – Cash for votes by all political parties during the latest Tamil Nadu polls extending beyond the standard electoral fraud had involved counterfeit money supply with the trail linked to possible terror organizations threatening national security.

Similarly the current Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram declared winner after losing election.

The electoral result disputed in the High Court pending differed judiciary action till the Minister’s term in office is over – grants exclusive status to those in power.

Mr. P. Chidambaram vigorously opposed the judiciary inclusion under Lokpal ambit.

These are mere flavors to the cocktail of national issues with explicit bias to the powerful in the society.

In the Parliamentary Proceedings – the scandal related to Cash for votes during Vote of Confidence survival implicating high profile members on all sides among series of unconstitutional events beckoning transparency and accountability to strengthen democratic rule of law – is a forlorn conclusion facilitating pervasive corruption.

The indifference in the application of law between people and power (politics, economics and social domain) is yet another hindrance to fairness and equality weakening democracy.

Throughout anti-corruption rally – the government prerogative to execute excess use of force against unarmed civilians attending peaceful assembly causing no harm to public convenience or safety upheld as a necessity,

While raising objection to the peaceful picketing outside Members of Parliament with incriminating record and actively engaged in the prevention of anti-corruption law.

Indian democracy has a unique opportunity to lead the world in resolving national and international crises and leaders like Shri Anna Hazare emerging from humble background raised national consciousness in implementing the long overdue change in the society.

Jan Lokpal legislation is a cornerstone in the struggle for political, social and economic development.

Congratulations! To Shri Anna Hazare and team for the outstanding dedication to national cause,

The honorable members of Parliament for their recognition of republic rule in a democracy and,

Citizens of India and abroad for their solidarity in the historic legislation.

Jai Bharat!

Peace to all!

Thank you.

India – Jan Lokpal Legislation

August 27, 2011

By Padmini Arhant

Heartfelt Congratulations! To Shri Anna Hazare, his team – Mts. Kiran Bedi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Mr. Prashant Bhushan and others,

Most importantly the citizens of India especially Jan Lokpal supporters including the members of Parliament in the ruling and opposition political parties for their unanimous support to a strong and effective Jan Lokpal legislation to liberate the nation from corruption.

Hopefully there will be more unified resolutions to many national issues benefitting the people and country at large in the present and the future.

It is gratifying to learn that Shri Anna Hazare will be ending his fast after 12 days – an incredible display of resolute and patriotism from the Gandhian, a true leader to guide the youth and citizens from all walks of life for a brighter tomorrow,

Indeed a resounding victory to Mahatma Gandhi’s doctrine – Satyagraha, Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Shanti (Peace), Republic and the Parliament in a democracy.

Jai Bharat!

Peace to all

Thank you.
