India – Politics Opportunism & Exploitation

Padmini Arhant

Politics never missing any opportunity to gain political mileage and advantage is the norm. Not to mention the spotlight.

This involves those riding on the tide in the hope of personal benefit to them and their political parties is least surprising. Such expectations are not always guaranteed to come into fruition especially for political groups seeking momentary profit. Again miscalculations delivering desirable outcome is farcical.

Indian politics traditionally premised on dynasty, interpersonal relations and fielding high profile candidates within fraternity besides welcoming celebrity at eleventh hour is the practice.

The latest stunt from the political coalition Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) the former rivals in the northern state Uttar Pradesh having previously ignored the Independent candidate ex-army soldier Tej Bahadur Yadav suddenly becomes a political fortune is unfortunate for everyone involved in this strategy.

The ex- BSF Tej Bahadur Yadav pledging commitment to fight corruption and dynasty politics joining the cadre that represents and rooted in these traits pose a credibility factor for the candidate.

The ex- army serviceman Tej Bahadur Yadav disassociation from these political factions SP, BSP and others by contesting as an independent would be wise without having to inherit the newly joined old party SP, BSP political baggage.

Furthermore, SP & BSP exploiting the situation in dumping their initial nominee in Varanasi, a Congress defector Shalini Yadav for ex-Army personnel Tej Bahadur Yadav stating the alteration as bold decision against incumbent candidate Prime Minister Narendra Modi even to the extent of claiming  the introduction of ex- army soldier Tej Bahadur Yadav as their novel idea is political shenanigans.

The trend is nothing more than politics revealing true colors in the absence of originality and ingenuity hopelessly relying on anyone and anything to capture the moment.

Tej Bahadur Yadav should run as an independent candidate to demonstrate real chowkidar (watchman) against PM Narendra Modi (fake chowkidar with corrupt criminal legacy) and Hindutva BJP with whom SP and BSP have forged alliance in the recent past and same possibility arising post election cannot be ruled out leaving the candidate Tej Bahadur Yadav as one them.

Thank you.
